'The View' Ladies Tussle Over Obama, Bill O'Reilly and Who's a Communist (Video)

By The Staff at wowOwow.com
The View/YouTube

Things got heated once again on Wednesday’s episode of ABC’s "The View" — and, not surprisingly, Elisabeth Hasselbeck was at the center of some of it.

Barbara Walters asked Joe Behar, a Barack Obama supporter, and John McCain supporter Elisabeth Hasselbeck if there was ever a time they supported the opposite candidate.

Behar says she likes the McCain that’s easygoing backstage with ‘The View’ women, but “the John McCain I see right now is not the same John McCain I see onstage.”

When Walters asked Hasselbeck if she ever doubted anything about the Republicans, Hasselbeck surprised her colleagues by saying she almost supported Obama.

“When Barack Obama gave his speech … Barack Obama actually potentially could have had my vote after his speech at the DNC,” Hasselbeck said, referring to the Democratic candidate’s Democratic convention speech in August.

To that, Behar protested.

“You don’t believe me? Call me a liar then, Joy,” Hasselbeck said.

Behar: “You’re delusional.”

Hasselbeck, handing Behar her cup: “You want some more Barack Obama Kool-Aid?”

Behar: “That was low, but we’re OK.”

Behar also called Rush Limbaugh a "terrorist."

FOX News host Bill O’Reilly also made an appearance, promoting his new book, A Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity.

One of the first comments he made was about Sarah Palin’s new $150,000 wardrobe.

“She’s doing exactly what Barack Obama told her – spreading the wealth around,” O’Reilly said. "She’s adopting a Democratic platform to spread that wealth."

O’Reilly also called Obama a "communist," and told Behar she’s a "Kool-Aid" drinker for believing everything the Democrats say.

Below is video of O’Reilly’s appearance.

Limbaugh can get my ire up when he agreeing with me. I can’t take more than about ten minutes of him. I finally decided that it is his contempt for the opinions of others that I don’t like. O’Reilly falls into the same category. So does Chris Mathews sometimes. Have you ever listened to him talk about Hillary?

As always Eka you have expressed yourself perfectly. I think you may be right, especially as it relates to Pat Buchanan. My best friend named Stephanie is Irish and her grandfather always refers to me as “the pretty colored gal.” Steph will of course correct him which usually leads to him attempting to defend it with long stories about “In my day…..etc. etc. etc.” It’s an ignorance that is rooted in segregation and well…..ignorance. But I know he genuinely likes me, I would even go out on the limb and say loves me. It’s never said with an air of meanness or as an “Archie Bunker.” I smiled when you mentioned the interplay between Buchanan and Chris Matthews (who I watch every night). I don’t know if what Pat has said is coming from ignorance or just an attempt to be irreverent? But as I said I am indifferent with him and don’t think of him. I save my ire for O’Reilly and Limbaugh. The upside is I try to remain positive most of the time and truly the only times I allow myself to vent on topics are when I’m scrolling the WOW site and come across something that piques my curiosity. I don’t allow debates online to follow me offline into my real life. Thanks for sharing your opinions on this and take care. I think you’re a wonderful woman.

Belinda, Can I jump in here? Jump…….I’m here… lol While reading your words about the difference in your feelings about O’Reilly and Limbaugh versus Buchannan………..I realize I feel exactly the same way. I too wondered how I could give Buchanan a pass yet let O’Reilly and Limbaugh get to me. I think I have figured it out after a lot of time trying to reason the problem. Buchanan is so repulsive to me. I can’t think of a thing that I would agree with him. Yet on occasion O’Reilly and Limbaugh say things that I can agree……………it’s rare but both of them throw in a little common sense now and then. That’s what irritates me. I reach a point where (when listening to them) I want to throw something at the radio or TV and then they’ll say a few words that actually catch my attention and I think……..Did he really say that? I’m trying, as I get older (with difficulty) to be more understanding of others idea’s. Most time’s I do pretty good but then there are times when someone who is really far to the Right What I would call a ‘Religious Right Wing Bigot/Racist’ that just sets me off. I’ve been extrememly interested in Politics all my life. I remember predicting the death of President Roosevelt when he ran for his last term. (I was raised in a Republican Home) So I was against Roosevelt. As a young girl I would stay up all night listening to the results on the radio. Having said this………..I’ve never gotten so emotionally involved in an Election like this one. I think a lot of people are feeling the same way. Emotions are really high. Justifiably so. We have been blessed (As a Country) to have a wonderful Powerful Woman (Hillary Clinton) run for office and Our First Black man Obama. Both great people coming out of the Democratic Party. In the Past I had such respect for McCain as a person. Not that I would vote for him. I wouldn’t because my views are those of the Democratic party, but I really lost my respect when he chose Sarah Palin for his VP. I always enjoy your post Belinda……..they are very thought provoking.

Dona, It’s nice to see I’m not alone on this one. You and I share a passion for politics it seems, and I agree with you, this election is special. What a difference a few decades can make eh? I have to admit I did have this wonderful feeling of change when Bill Clinton first ran. I remember when he came to our city to speak the first time and the entire room was caught up in his words of change. You could feel it, it was palpable. And he did! He brought a new energy and intelligence to the White House and set out to make things better. He could have been one of the truly great presidents of our history if not for his HUGE lack of morals. But like Obama, they are both incredibly intelligent and cerebral men….they are big thinkers and listeners. I’m so excited Dona in watching how America is responding to Barack and Biden. I keep tempering my enthusiasm so that I don’t place them to high on a pedestal. But its hard….I’m so excited to see the changes that we have in store. Go Obama/Biden.

Belinda, love to read your comments and Dona’s too. Suzanne once mentioned finding your website and what a writer you were. Well, being a nosey Parker I looked and your books just blow my mind. Where do you find the time to do all that you do? I initially came to wOw because I wanted to learn from other women. Sometimes I get discouraged because of the anger this election has generated. OMG Nuts especially concerns me. As a health care professional I’m glad she has this site to “vent”. I just am concerned about her. I really think that women have let themselves be devalued for too long. They seem to shoot themselves in the foot all the time. I was happy when I found this site because I thought it would be a lot of strong, wise women who had lived life and had wisdom and soo many do. However, I’m beginning to wonder if women are just talkers. Only a few seem to transcend to a higher level and quit the “bitching, name calling” and getting mean and angry when others don’t agree with them. I have to be honest——I don’t think men have done a good job being in charge of this planet. I want women to “get over it” and take the lead. We know we have some really smart women if we give them a chance. My mama always said that the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. She knew that women were able to multi-task, were really smarter and able to understand more complex ideas than the male sex. I am not against men, as a rule. I actually love them. But look at the talking heads on TV…look at our leaders…..look at our scientists (how long will it take them to just keep the tiles from flying off the space shuttle when it has been a problem for ever?) Ask our pal, Frank. I really think he agrees with me. All of that said….I think you would be a great motivator and leader, Go girl and let’s get started!!!!!! Please don’t think I am nuts…I am a sixty year-old youngster just spoiling to see things done right before I die. My mama also always said “if you want something done right, let a woman do it”.

So yesterday they reveal that the republicans have poured $150,000 into Sarah Palin’s wardrobe. I never had a clothing allowance like that. Ever. And no one every accused me of not looking hip, current, edgy, bohemian, and chic. But I never looked vice presidential either. Phew! And I never came close to spending that type of money. The truth be known, I would love to just go out and spend like a drunk on a lost weekend, but I think my conscience would bother me. A little. I don’t pay retail. I know what clothes cost to make. And if you don’t, it costs nearly nada to produce. The mark up on clothing could choke a horse and the Park Ave . matron who road into on town on it. But, she has more money than God. And you don’t have to spend money on clothing that will fall a part after a few washings. Girlfriends, it doesn’t have to happen. I have a childhood friend who was the CFO for Vera Wang. She doesn’t buy retail either. So the Republicans went to Saks and Neiman Marcus (also known as Needless Mark ups) and spent $150,000 on clothes. That will be out of style in 6 months. So how much should one pay for a black skirt? $5K ? A red leather jacket (is that moose skin and did she shot it herself) for $12k? So how many of you soccer moms have spent that sort of money on clothes in a couple of months? If you have, I would like to move my family into your pool house. The cats don’t each much and Ruby hates the water. So they had to dress up Sarah Palin up? I would have found a sliver or respect towards her if she rejected that notion of frivolous spending in this day and age. So many of the people and families she and McCain are trying to win over never see that kind of money in a year or more. I am not going to get into Michele Obama’s wardrobe, but the money was not spent on her outfits I kinda believe it was to keep people on the message. And not the package. Okay, I am willing to make a compromise. I am very generous soul. How far would 50K gone in stores like T.J. Maxx, Macy’s or even Target? You would still be shopping. And that extra 100 grand? How about providing fanciful Thanksgiving dinners for well deserving families who are struggling to make ends meet? How about paying some of the bills of families who lost family members because of the war the sitting president thought would be his legacy? I could help. I know where the good deals are. You betcha!

In fairness, she doesn’t have the time to go to Target or TJ Maxx to pull together a classical look (and looking at what she was wearing in the past that’s probably where she shopped on the fly) A lot of executive women have people they work with at stores like Saks and Nordstroms or even Neiman’s, who help them coordinate outfits each season that they can add to their wardrobes and will last them several years. If you look at photographs of her from the past, she clearly didn’t make that a practice. Once she got the nod, she needed well made articles of clothing that wear well, travel well, and that she is able to coordinate with each other — yesterday! I, however, am actually to figure out how she spent that much money — @ perhaps $ 3000 an outfit, that’s 50 outfits. I’d like to see a breakdown. I think there’s some level of misinterpretation here. I’ve now read that it outfitted the entire family, but I’m still trying to determine on what it was spent. Again, nevertheless, nobody would be talking about this if she were a man who was the recipient of 6 $1800.00 suits!

Also, I’d like to add that it was not she who did the shopping. Apparently, a well-placed Republican woman placed the orders for her and had the clothing brought to her to avoid this kind of hoopla. I’d like to know the source of the amount of money spent. The information is a bit suspect.

The RNC released it’s financial report which itemized the expense for Palin’s clothing. Straight from the horse’s mouth, as they say.

Peg, Did you see the financial report? Can you show me where to find it?

In the Los Angeles Times article I read, the RNC report was cited. Just google “RNC financial report Palin clothing” to see many articles, from Politico, USA Today, Fox News, etc. The RNC has responded, saying the clothes will be given to charity. If the actual report is online somewhere, I have not found it.
