'The View' Rivals Fist Bump in Peace After Obama Win (Videos)

Here’s another sign of Barack Obama’s power to unite people.

Two "View" hosts that have gone head-to-head many days during this presidential election — conservative and John McCain supporter Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and liberal Obama supporter Joy Behar — shook hands and made up yesterday.

They even fist-bumped — sort of like what Obama and his wife Michelle did during his Democratic National Convention speech.

"I haven’t felt this good throughout this entire election process."

Of course, Behar couldn’t resist responding with: “Does this mean I was right all along?”

Hasselbeck threw her full support behind the president-elect, saying his election is “a victory for this country … That is what, as an American, I believe we should do."

Co-host Sherri Shepherd, who is black, broke down in tears when she told of how she explained what Obama’s win meant to her son. She said when she was young and wanted to be a comic and an actor, someone in her family told her to “go get a job in the post office, they don’t let people like us do that.”

Whoopi Goldberg says even though she always thought of herself as an American, after the results were in, she felt for the first time that she could put her suitcase down. Goldberg, one of our wOw contributors, also wrote a moving piece yesterday, explaining what Obama’s win meant to her. You can read it here.

I admit, Elizabeth certainly surprised me. I was all ready for one of her rants, but instead, she was far more gracious than I ever thought her capable of. I believe that even Elizabeth, couldn’t deny the “power” of the movement that took place. I’m glad to hear she is willing to support President Elect Obama.

I will forgive Elizabeth when she admits she lied. She did not present objective opinion to prove her point. She has a right to say anything she wants and I have the right not to believe a word that comes out of that mouth.

Sherri and Whoopi both had me crying… beautiful sentiment in their remarks. I adore Joy and credit her with confronting McCain at a time when he needed confronted therefore she started a necessary conversation in the nation. Go Joy! I like Elisabeth too, yet like so many Republican talking heads she spoke too much in irrational attacks and accusations speaking in adjectives and labels instead of discussing issues of substance about McCain or Obama. I think when Elisabeth looks back over some of her recorded shows, she may in time regret the side of history she supported and blindly defended.

Yes! Sherrie finally spoke out! And it brought me to tears, too. Let’s hope the show won’t descend into the banal and ridiculous now that this momentous victory is won.

Wow Sherri moved me to tears and I am so proud of Elizabeth for saying what she did. That is what America is about. I immigrated from America during the Vietnam war and today for the first time in a long time I thought Wow America is really going to show off her grand potential and greatness. Thank you all for voting in such large numbers and for electing hope !

To Whoopi, I noticed during the show in question you kept telling Sherri “No, No” each time it was clear she was going to lose it. In my opinion, given the subject matter and well for which Sherri had to dig to bring up those emotions and tears, they were cathartic. And as you can see it also resonated with a lot of women, myself included. I know you your role on the show is that of moderator and “talk traffic cop” but some moments should not be censored or squelched. Elisabeth indeed had a lot of wonderful things to say about Barack. “She” drank a gallon of the McCain/Palin kool-aid (a reference we all) know and had nothing but terrible, divisive and deflammatory things to say up to election day. Suddenly her party loses and Barack is no longer a terrorist? No longer a socialist? He is HER president and SHE will honor her president? I don’t buy it. We’ll all need to watch her over the next weeks, months and years and see if those negative things she said creep back up.

Belinda, I’m with you on the Elizabeth thing…………. Her mouth dripped with VENOM for months……..I don’t believe her now. She’s too vendective a person to immedietly change positions. She wants to make a name for herself in politics……it’s the more popular thing to do………..act contrite. Give me a Break! She defended Bush until it was sickening………………finally when his numbers were in the toilet she kept her mouth shut about him. A snake is a snake is a snake…………….Just my opinion.

During the campaign, “The View” showed us the crucible. Now, they have shown us the melting pot. As it should be. To each it’s season. I thought that Joy’s quip spoiled the mood a bit. But otherwise, that moment made me proud of them all. I was glad they were all there for it.
