Welcome to wowOwow and Thank You!

Joni Evans

Welcome! We launched on March 8th, the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day. And we’ve been so happy with your responses to our site and to our questions. (Our first Question of the Day – Which four women would you like to see on Mt. Rushmore? — has received more than 2,000 e-mails and 150 on-site comments. We will tally the votes on Friday, so you still have time to get yours in.)

WowOwow is a party — disguised as a website — where we meet for coffee (in our robes) and for cocktails (without any makeup) and even in the middle of the night (someone’s always up!). Here, we can talk to our readers, invite the most interesting guests, share experiences, tell tales out of school, exchange gossip and news — and make some of our own.

WowOwow is created, written and owned by Lesley Stahl, Peggy Noonan, Liz Smith, Joni Evans, Mary Wells, Sheila Nevins, Joan Juliet Buck, Whoopi Goldberg, Julia Reed, Joan Ganz Cooney, Judith Martin, Candice Bergen, Lily Tomlin, Jane Wagner and Marlo Thomas.

Here’s what you’ll see:

What we want is to hear from you. On every page is a comment box ("Talk to Us") for you to share your opinions, which will become an integral part of the site. Your reactions, ideas and recommendations are crucial to us. Tell us what you like, don’t like and what you want to see. Tell us everything.

You are our guests. So, sit down, put your feet up and talk to us.

Great site with a lot of potential. Looking forward to reading. One suggestion is to try to make it more of a dialogue . The opinions are all interesting but I look forward to more interaction between the users..Thank you Joni and Friends

It’s 12:51 am and I have to be up at 4:30 am for an exercise class but I just was watching “Good Morning America” that I taped so I could watch the clip about starting your own business and I caught wind of this wonderful website!! I am so excited to read more and I have so many questions but for now I just want to say I can’t wait to read more and pass this site on to my friends. I hope that if we have questions there is either a chat site or a question and answer site. Keep up the good work - Thanks

Although it’s only been a couple of days but since not much is going on at work these days, I’ve had plenty of spareness to cruise and peruse and, sadly, have had a change of heart and reduced enthusiasm towards my initial perception of this site. After reading almost the entire site, all comments, forums, topics…it’s so blatantly clear that there is a vast empty space that’s missing called “diversity”…diversity of culture, colour, religion, educational class and orientation…I learned about this site from pro-accolades on AfterEllen.com…a GLBT site. However, other than myself…I have not seen a shred of any diversity amongst women, nevermind even approaching the orientation issue and seeing gay-oriented topics up for discussion. Sadly, I remain feeling like the predatory gay-kitty amongst a sea of white milk…and milk is so bad for kitties, don’t you know. So much for expectations. Sorry ladies.

Dear Women of Wowowow: I wish you well. I feel the energy of Wowowow and hope—more than that , I expect— that this site will become home to women of my generation who, like me, simply had no choice but to be true originals. We’ve had to make up our own rules. We’ve struggled to follow them. Maybe, Wowowow will become another one of our delicious rewards. I’m not famous. I won’t ever sip latte with any of you. But I make a habit of doing what my mother couldn’t imagine: I live what I dream. At twenty-one, I came to New York to work for the syndicated fashion columnist Eugenia Sheppard at WWD. I was a Marlo Thomas look-alike. I was “That girl” who has become “That woman.” Decades later, my work in the arts is everything I dared to expect. Till now, there hasn’t been a women’s website solid enough, or exciting enough, to make me believe I should be a part of it. But here I am wishing you well. Jennifer G.

I’m wondering how I could reach Marlo Thomas. We played together as children; our parents were good friends when Danny Thomas was just getting started in Chicago. I have some pictures of my parents with the Thomas’s. The day I learned to walk was when my mother left me with Marlo’s mother and she went shopping. I was walking when my mother returned. Danny Thomas wrote a lovely note to my sister and myself when my mother died in 1969. I would be happy to have the pictures duplicated and send them to whatever address, should Marlo want them. Sincerely, Dr. Claudia Carroll-Denver,Co. P.S. I am not writing this for publication, but would simply like to send pictures of Marlo’s parents to her should she want them. Thank you.

Elizabeth, can you give me a clue as to the legal community’s opinion on the erosion of the separation of powers under the Bush administration. This should be of great concern to everyone in the US. Thanks.

Just saw you on Rachel Ray————this is the future…….Liz Smith—you look great——-I think the writing is on the wall for the future of newspapers—-too bad it didn’t end on a nicer note—-this is so much better for you.

Dear wowOwow women,

So many of my favorite people in one place! Is it ok to seek advice and direction? I am a personal assistant. I live in Denver. I am putting together a new resume and would like to get the attention of strong, hard working women. I can not think of a better place to ask for advice. Any suggestions ?
