Welcome to wowOwow and Thank You!

Joni Evans

Welcome! We launched on March 8th, the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day. And we’ve been so happy with your responses to our site and to our questions. (Our first Question of the Day – Which four women would you like to see on Mt. Rushmore? — has received more than 2,000 e-mails and 150 on-site comments. We will tally the votes on Friday, so you still have time to get yours in.)

WowOwow is a party — disguised as a website — where we meet for coffee (in our robes) and for cocktails (without any makeup) and even in the middle of the night (someone’s always up!). Here, we can talk to our readers, invite the most interesting guests, share experiences, tell tales out of school, exchange gossip and news — and make some of our own.

WowOwow is created, written and owned by Lesley Stahl, Peggy Noonan, Liz Smith, Joni Evans, Mary Wells, Sheila Nevins, Joan Juliet Buck, Whoopi Goldberg, Julia Reed, Joan Ganz Cooney, Judith Martin, Candice Bergen, Lily Tomlin, Jane Wagner and Marlo Thomas.

Here’s what you’ll see:

What we want is to hear from you. On every page is a comment box ("Talk to Us") for you to share your opinions, which will become an integral part of the site. Your reactions, ideas and recommendations are crucial to us. Tell us what you like, don’t like and what you want to see. Tell us everything.

You are our guests. So, sit down, put your feet up and talk to us.

What a great idea this site is. And what a great group of women to be behind it. Not familiar with all of you, but if “guilt by association” still has any standing, I’m guessing you’re all as great as the ones I am familiar with. I look forward to learning more about what you all stand for and how you feel about the state of many happenings in these times. Congrats on the launch of the site!

I just heard about this on GMA! I haven’t taken time to navigate thru and read everything yet because I’m too excited. I have to add, I’ll bet Molly Ivins is looking down at this and clapping and having a damn good laugh saying “It’s about time!”

I saw GMA this morning and was thrilled to find this exciting new site! Thanks to all of you for dedicating your time! I’ve read everyones biographies etc, and what a wonderful and talented group it is. I look forward to inspiring and insightful chats filled with humor. I am a 42 year old, mother of 3. I home school my autistic daughter and dream to open a school specifically for autistic children as there are currently none in my state. I hope to publish my poetry or use my talents as a Dr. Seuss wannabe to get that project started. In the mean time, I will be keeping up to date on the status of the war, the presidential race, issues of health and education, and keep honing my sense of humor along the way while facing a second family crisis of fighting cancer, suing my school district and helping my daughter achieve success in whatever sense that may be. I look forward to reading everyones comments daily. For now, it’s back to sensory integration and speech therapy, and with any luck my carpet will be vacuumed by the end of the day. Wishing you all great success !

I saw some of the ladies on Good Morning America, glad to see this site up and running. I like to let Mary know that I left my job to take care of my husband, who had liver transplant. I wish I would have done something different I didnt have a job like yours but I had a very good job now I’m 54 and thinking I will not fine a good job after this is all over.

I work in a place with mostly women. I have left situations where aggressive women “ate their own.” I know my life is short and this is not the attitude I want to live with anywhere! I desire a place where women can display compassion, respect and joy!

Saw you girls this morning on “GMA”…looking good, ladies! Thanks for your willingness to CHANGE the WORLD!!! Yes, indeed, WE WILL!!! This is a wonderful platform to provide the much-needed foundation for women to challenge things & shake up what is recognized in our diverse cultures as well as our oneness. My longtime friend & songwriting partner wrote “WOMEN OF THE WORLD” - LEIAH CHANTEI IKAFA. You can find her page on My Space, ladies. Your initials reminded me of it immediately this morning. Thanks for including me here. Let’s MAKE THE IMPOSSIBLE POSSIBLE!!!! Cheers! - Jeanie Black ^_^ PEACE

Saw you on GMA this a.m. Congratulations on a momentous start to this exciting place to be. It eraces all my previous beliefs about women of our age being ignored or overlooked. No More. Now we have wowowow to encourage our participation in changing the world.

I love this site so far but can’t help noticing that everyone is white except for Whoopi. Would you please explain?

I am so glad that I have found this site. I enjoy talking to and with other women finding what we have in common and where we differ. There are things I would love to discuss but don’t feel comfortable in a face to face setting. How sad is that? People perceive me as a very open woman but I am not and I have a feeling some of you are the same way. Will there be a way for us to open up a subject or will our esteemed panel predetermine subjects? Either way I know that I will grow through thinking and learning. Thank you.
