Welcome to wowOwow and Thank You!

Joni Evans

Welcome! We launched on March 8th, the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day. And we’ve been so happy with your responses to our site and to our questions. (Our first Question of the Day – Which four women would you like to see on Mt. Rushmore? — has received more than 2,000 e-mails and 150 on-site comments. We will tally the votes on Friday, so you still have time to get yours in.)

WowOwow is a party — disguised as a website — where we meet for coffee (in our robes) and for cocktails (without any makeup) and even in the middle of the night (someone’s always up!). Here, we can talk to our readers, invite the most interesting guests, share experiences, tell tales out of school, exchange gossip and news — and make some of our own.

WowOwow is created, written and owned by Lesley Stahl, Peggy Noonan, Liz Smith, Joni Evans, Mary Wells, Sheila Nevins, Joan Juliet Buck, Whoopi Goldberg, Julia Reed, Joan Ganz Cooney, Judith Martin, Candice Bergen, Lily Tomlin, Jane Wagner and Marlo Thomas.

Here’s what you’ll see:

What we want is to hear from you. On every page is a comment box ("Talk to Us") for you to share your opinions, which will become an integral part of the site. Your reactions, ideas and recommendations are crucial to us. Tell us what you like, don’t like and what you want to see. Tell us everything.

You are our guests. So, sit down, put your feet up and talk to us.

How cool is this? Someone to talk too! I am a 47 year old woman who is home again. I raised my children and was home for 16 years, returned to the work place for 4 years and am home again caring for my mother. Life is funny and you never are quite sure what it is you’re here for, I know I search everyday. Right now I am a caretaker, and I am thrilled to have a place to go where people are thinking and talking and sharing relevant topics. Welcome

Just read about this site in the Sat. LA Times. Great site already enjoying the information. Have sent it on to daughter and friends for them to enjoy. Time, we can all talk together. Thank you.

I would like to have this site personalized for each state or each county in that state. I think that would be great “regional” information.

I’m just shocked to realize it took this long for someone to create a site like this, and that I didn’t even think of it myself! Really hoping it takes off. I have one suggestion. Have your web guru add a poll to your yes/no questions. That way we can see what the majority view is on a topic. Personally, I’d only allow those who were willing to comment to also vote, as that gets around trolls and trouble makers. But you can do also do a poll w/o requiring comments if that’s your preference.

I read about this new site in this morning’s L.A. Times and decided to “visit”. Congratulations on launching a great idea. The timing couldn’t have been better with the issue of prostitution and “standing by your man”. Bravo. I hope you will be successful in balancing multiple points of view. Makes it much more interesting reading.

Bravo, bravo, bravo! I just read about this site and am thrilled! I, too, am soooo tired of all those sites which only talk about getting a husband and having babies. (And for you dear writer who wrote in that you wanted a site for women with husbands and babies, man!, there are PLENTY of those sites out there! Leave this site ALONE!) Suggestion: As entertainment, all my life I have read those columns where people write in for answers to their social life problems. I have found the best one yet, by Caroline Hax. Wow! This gal “has it goin’ on”! She is BRILLIANT! And her column is NOTHING like all the other ones out there. Please put her column on your website. Anyway, thanks, gals! You’re the BEST!

We all have so much to read every day, I don’t know how I get through everything, and of course I don’t.  So I saw the article in the LA Times and pulled up the site, registered and now it’s two hours later, and I’ve read, and posted comments etc.  It’s a lot of fun and I applaud all of you wonderful women for leading the way on this.  Now I don’t know how to say this delicately, so I’ll just come out and report that I am around the same age of most of you, maybe a little younger, but I look like all of you except for Woopi.  What’s up with no other women of color being on the masthead of this site?  I’m in a city where there is a 50% Hispanic population, and you wonderful women may not have the same politics, or likes and dislikes, but we’ve got a big world out there.  I kind of feel that I’m looking at my own reflection - and I’d love to hear from other women.  OR am I being small minded, and should look beyond the reflection because whoever we are and from whatever backgrounds, we all have similar needs, be it bringing up kids, relationships with friends and lovers and trying to get through the day and feeling like we’ve accomplished something, anything.

I’ve been surfing the Net since 1999 and have never found a site that intrigues and excites me as much as this one. I’m 58 yrs old and have a lot of opinions, LOL. Thank you for a place to express them among my peers.
