Who Gives a ____ What 'Joe the Plumber' Thinks?!

Editor’s Note: A longtime journalist, Margo Howard went into the family business (her mother was the fabled Ann Landers) in the 1990s as Dear Prudence. Her broad experience and understanding of human nature provide answers for the troubled — and entertainment for everyone else. Click here to read her column on Yahoo!

A BIG Drudge headline blared the following: JOE THE PLUMBERSCARED FOR AMERICAIF OBAMA PRESIDENT.

Well, who gives a rat’s ass about what this man thinks? And what’s wrong with Drudge that he gives credence to this schmo? Is he our new expert on the body politic?

I, frankly, don’t give a damn about his opinion – for a lot of reasons. First of all, his name isn’t even "Joe;" he’s not a licensed plumber; he lied about belonging to a union; and he had no intention of buying a business that would earn him $250,000 a year. And assuming his name were Joe, that he had a plumber’s license, that he did belong to the union, and was actually considering buying a business that would earn him a quarter of a mil a year, I still wouldn’t place him in the category of people whose opinion merited ink. (And don’t you think that a guy who had been discredited in everything he said would be consigned to the rubbish bin of media-worthy bloviaters? Guess not.)

And secondly, that kind of "man on the street" crap is demeaning. It reminds me of how we used to refer to our Lab as "Alice the dog." It is, furthermore, condescending to refer to people with only a first name followed by their job description — especially so when done by a senator, or anyone in a superior position. Have you heard of anyone referring to President Bush as "George, the government guy?"

As for this clown making headlines on Drudge, it is ludicrous. I doubt that he even speaks for the odiously named Joe Six-pack. This is just one more example of the intellectual cleansing we have somehow been subjected to. Shape up, Matt Drudge, and find some more authoritative sources. And "Joe," go back to fixing toilets.

My Alias- When ever someone uses the words “you people” the hair on the back of my neck starts to stand up. When I write here I speak for myself. I’m not a part of “you people”. I did watch the youtube links you provided (although anything from the Fox News channel is almost always factually worthless as far as I’m concerned), and I have only two observations at this point. (If I have time I’ll do some research about the validity of the charges made in the first youtube link). 1) The Clinton campaign never filed a lawsuit against the Obama campaign re the Texas caucus process, and 2) Hillary Clinton has been campaigning vigorously for Barack Obama. Apparently, the Clinton campaign is not concerned by the Texas primary outcome. I’m far more concerned about voter suppression by the Republicans in the general election on November 4th since the Republican Party has long been famous for using the dirtiest of tricks to keep Democrats from the polls. For that reason I will be a poll-watcher in my community.

calling him out on his personal association with a known domestic terrorist is not ratcheting up lynch mobs. By My Alias on 10/26/2008 11:17 am Palin saying ” He is not like us” certainly is devisive and feeds into those who already have this mentality. I have see local television interviews with some of the crowd and wow!

starry: I have see local television interviews with some of the crowd and wow! The crowd was probably already riled up after listening to others call Gov. Palin tundra trash, etc. etc. etc. Ugly breeds ugly. It’s easy to ratchet up a crowd that is already edgy from hearing all the unwarranted nastiness thrown at Gov. Palin and her family. Many people like Sarah Palin and Obama supporters won’t get a free pass to criticize her. What they’ll get is gasoline flung at a fire. Eventually you people will catch on, but it’s taking a long time.

starry, as I said earlier. when Obama makes comments like “they cling to guns and religion” he has separates himself from the guns and religion crowd. Palin is right, Obama is not like them (“he’s not like us”). nor does he understand where they are coming from. Hillary got them. she knew how to connect, even though I doubt you’ll be seeing her in a duck blind with Dick Cheney any time soon.

Eleanor, Please site your source for this information- “The Obama campaign has now “cut off” the stations access”.( Wouldn’t this be just like Sarah Palin not allowing the press or talking to the press. ? I can see why they have been trying to keep her away. She is self destructing. I wish they had let her out sooner.

http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/entertainment_tv_tvblog/2008/10/obama-c… Biden is the real embarrassment, not Palin. But in the “Emporer’s New Clothes” media operation, we are expected to not see what are eyes clearly tell us and see what is not there.

Such arrogance on your part! Many of us care what “Joe” or “Joeline” the plumber have to say — including their dreams and hopes of one day being a business owner. Talk about demeaning comments…telling someone to go back to fixing toilets! Being a plumber is an honest middle class job. It would serve you well if all plumbers refused to respond to your calls for service. Live with a backed up toilet and then maybe you’ll recall all the stink you have helped spread about others…remember your stinking comments about Mrs. McCain…Sarah Palin! Shame on you. You are not cute. You are crude! And, you of all people should have knowledge of better manners.

By LJ R on 10/26/2008 2:14 pm Being a plumber is an honest middle class job. (We admire Plumbers- we don’t admire “Joe the Plumber”) Margo has already answered that question. Have you heard about “Plumbers for Obama”/ They think Joe the plumber gives them a bad name. Again I say lets flush this Joe the Pumber crap down the toilet.
