Who is le père?
That’s the question many citizens strolling around the streets of France are asking themselves after French Justice Minister Rachida Dati gave birth to a baby girl last Friday — but refuses to identify the child’s father.
While Dati, 43, tells the Times Online that her life "is not a novel," the French press cannot contain themselves as they try to guess a pivotal character — the father!
Among the gentlemen mentioned as possible paternal matches? Both Sarkozy brothers:
François Sarkozy, younger brother of the president, was spotted at the clinic on Sunday night, setting off more speculation. Others rumored to be the father include a popular television-show host, a former boyfriend, a Danish sperm donor — and even Nicolas Sarkozy himself.
Men who publicly denied paternity:
José Maria Aznar, the former Spanish Prime Minister; Bernard Laporte, the French Sports Minister; and Dominique Desseigne, the chairman of the Barrière casino and hotel group, have all publicly denied being the father.
Perhaps none of these men are young Miss Dati’s father. One final rumor we’ve read: Dati became pregnant after receiving an anonymous sperm donation.
