Who Would You Love to be in the Dark With for Earth Hour?

Mary Wells

Who would you love to be in the dark with for Earth Hour?

Such a good idea should not go unloved. The entire world is going to celebrate Earth Hour at 8pm on March 29. All the info is at: www.earthhour.org. So much good will happen to our world because we turn off our lights for just one hour. And think of all the other things that will happen. Imagine it. It’s black. There are no lights except star lights. And candlelight. And firelight. Maybe angel-light. Who would you like to share the stars with, to touch, to feel, to abandon yourself to, to remember with, to lie to, to tickle, to giggle with, to make up stories  for, to sing to, to nuzzle, to tell poems to, to wonder about the universe with, to have a new idea with, to plan making things greener with, to smell the grass with, to feel the wonder of it all with, to be deeply moved with, to be happy to be alive with?

With my husband and relive what we felt on our wedding day and reminisce over the last 8 years we have been together. Blissful!

I had to think about your question and the one person I would like to spend one hour in the dark with, for all of the resons you have listed would be Ellen Degeneres, for one hour a day while watching or listening to her show, she makes me smile. Her generous, and kind humor, giving back to those in need and her smile. She would be the one person I would like to spend an hour with in the dark.

If it were possible I would want to be with my mother. She passed away more than 5 years ago now and I still miss her so very much. But wait….with nothing but star light and angel light, surely that would reveal a path to one another. One can hope. I’ll spend the time with my other/better half and that is always time well spent.

Too many to choose only 1; I’ve kept my list for my Fantasy Dinner Party Benefit for the last 16 years…I’d be delighted with one of those invitees, or the man I didn’t marry because I felt his teenaged daughters really needed him. KICK.

My first choice would be my mother who also passed away when I was 19 (1982- you can do the math) or as a fantasy I would like to spend an hour with Lily T. and Vivian (her assistant). When I met them in Ft. Myers and then again in Columbia MO., they were so much fun!

We can share. I’m sure there’s something in the good book that says “blessed are those who share…..”, isn’t there?

I know that to begin with this may sound selfish, but I would like to spend it alone. This is why. I have a very busy job in a university library, a husband who is obsessive compulsive and demands all my waking hours when I am not at work, and long distance calls two daughters that are single mothers—because they dumped their jerks of husbands, but that is another story. I rarely get alone time—even the dog figured out how to open the bathroom door and showed the cat, so there is not even privacy in the tub. I would like to just go outside and sit under the starlight and not have to converse with anyone—one hour would be heavenly. However, I know that in less than five minutes my husband would be checking to see if I was all right, had not left and got to the store without him or that I had not left something open or touched something that he might have to double, triple or quadruple check. Yes, one hour alone…..

Susan, you’re welcome in my retreat — mi casa, su casa … lovely time of year, and you’re free; on your own. No strings. I’m considering building a pocket neighborhood for women who are retired, and/or dis-ABLED…married or not. Retreats, in my experience facilitating workshops are “Progressives.”

Susan, It doesn’t sound ‘selfish’ but necessary to health, well-being and sanity…we all need time alone to think and restore. I used to also work on college campuses and on each found one secret beautiful place where could go alone with a small book of poetry…reading that amid trees or flowers always smoothes my ruffled feathers out. Hope you get that private hour under the stars!

Diane- It’s not really me but thought it was funny when I googled 60’s fashion. It reminded me of the good old days of orange juice can curlers(which weren’t all that great) and Dippity Doo. LOL
