I watched my beautiful daughter and her handsome husband graduate from college this weekend. Smart, young, enthusiastic, they have their best days in front of them. I had the honor of meeting her art professor who recently returned from working on a ceiling at the Louvre. Professor Crawford was leaving immediately for Italy to host her own art show there. When we were introduced, she teared up, shook her head, and hugged me saying, “Thank you so much,(for your daughter)” and then she waved her hand in front of her face to fan away the tears. She had already said that she couldn’t bring herself to say goodby to her. That was a precious gift to me. Then we went to view my daughter’s senior art show. I hadn’t seen her art nor knew what her subject was. It was horse physiology. She created a 6 foot tall wire representation of horse hindquarter musculature, lighted with a side flood light, mounted on a board. The founders of the university were very impressed. She also had a block print of a horse skull, and another block print of the circulatory system of the horse. We were stunned and amazed that our daughter had done something so innovative and evocative. Another piece was a 4ft wood block with a wire representation of a horse leg mounted to the side. Etched into the block were the 10 names of the various parts of the leg. People found it very compelling.

P.S. All forms of life require water to survive …………For me, I absolutely must have humor in my daily diet. It’s essential when attempting to digest all of life’s unexpected twists and turns!

My Mother died last year and I miss her more than I ever, ever imaged (dad is mortician so I have been around death and am also an ICU nurse) but losing Mom well boy-o-boy. So if you have a Mom give her an extra long hug and if you don’t, remember the days when you did.

Karen….am so sorry for your loss. I still have my mother and can find it hard to breathe just thinking of her not being here. But as a mother, also know that your mother is still with you in spirit anyway. And let’s hope that smarty Shakespeare was right and they’ve just stepped behind the veil…and that we do meet again in some form. All best.

Karen, my sympathy in the loss of your mother. I lost my mother many years ago and I love her and miss her still. Only one mother to hold precious and dear.
