Whoopi Weighs in on Sarah Palin and Reader Comments on Her Obama Post!

Whoopi Goldberg

It wasn’t just a woman, John, you silly thing. It was HILLARY CLINTONNOT JUST A WOMAN! "More than a woman," as Tavares says on the soundtrack of "Saturday Night Fever."

And just a note, I know as I read this a lot of folks are having fun while writing comments – I love Mugsy Peabody! I don’t know much about you, Mugs, but I’m diggin ya!

Last night, Barack gave a very fascinating speech, a smart speech, a great speech. I thought it was very clear and concise, and in a funny way kind of, "What the hell … let me answer some of this because you’re making me crazy, John McCain." That’s how I felt about the speech. I liked it. I was really happy that he gave it — it was very smart and it hit a lot of very interesting points.

Some points, as we know with presidential candidates, some things are just not going to be able to be delivered. We don’t know what they are until we get all of the information, of course, but let us never forget that no one is qualified to be president when they are elected. I don’t believe anybody who is running for the presidency of the United States is ever prepared for what that job entails. You can say, "I have experience because I run a state, or I have experience because I was head of a battalion, or I ran a company." It is not the same. The issues are not the same, the weight of the issues are not the same.

We are going to be faced with real life and death issues. Women trying to figure out whether they can afford to have another child and opting out saying, "No I can’t do that." These are the issues we have to start looking at. We have to start looking at what kind of care is going to be given to vets when they come home.

I couldn’t agree more Whoopie, I feel as if John McCain is pandering to me and all woman by saying “lookie here ladies, look what I brought, you can make women’s history with me!!” Gag!! It is insulting, and I can’t really figure out what else she brings to the ticket other than her dress. She is lacking in experience and hasn’t that been their driving point for all this time. I too love Joe Biden and think that he was an AMAZING choice and one that took me a little by surprise. He has the “cred” that some have lambasted Obama for not having, he is brilliant and confident. Kudos to Barack. Hurry back with the View already, what a horrific week to be on vaca!

It’s obvious in his choice of Joe Biden that Barack Obama took the position of VP seriously and chose someone who is more than ready to run the country if he is called to.

It is OUTRAGEOUS to think that a woman with 18 months as Gov of a state with a population 606,000 and previous exp as a Mayor of a town of under 9,000, with no foreign policy or International relations OPINIONS let alone exp should be a heatbeat away from the presidency. THERE ARE 17 MAJOR U.S, CITIES WITH POPULATIONS GREATER THAN ALASKA; New York 8M, LA 4M Chicago 3M, Houston 2M, Philadelphia 1.5M, Phoenix 1.4M, San Antonio 1.3M, San Diego 1,3M, Dallas 1.2M, San Jose 912K, Detroit 886K, Indianapolis 784K, Jacksonville 783K, San Francisco 740K, Columbus, 31K, Austin 690K, Memphis 672K Someone tell me that a Mayor of one of those cities with 18 months exp. And previous exp as a mayor of a town of 9,000 where the largest concern is a Moose crossing. And with a degree in journalism from a third rate school should be a VP candidate. Not to mention that she didn’t care about Iraq, believes in teaching creationism, doesn’t believe in Global Warming is man made, and had ONE MEETING with McCain. This ‘decision’ shows so much contempt for the other GOP candidates with somewhat credible experience (if you approve of the GOP platform which I most certaintly do not). So much contempt for COMPETENCE in general and in women in particular. Would anyone even buy a car on seeing it ONCE?? It shows total contempt for HIS RESPONSIBILITY to choose someone who can actually take over the presidency. It shows total disdain for the challenges facing the world and the US. Obama’s speech the night before had the LARGEST EVER global TV audience in the history of US politics. Over 40M. More than the opening of the Olympics, More than the Oscars, most Superbowls. Double the closest other most watched political event. McCain/Rove pulled this CHEAP PR stunt to take the spotlight off that incredible feat, and the spotlight off the serious issues that Senator Obamas and Joe Biden raised. He did it to ensure there would be no national discussion of what Obama spoke of; ie that McCain is a tool of his coporate paymasters and votes consistently against women, families, education, health, a decent wage, etc. He can’t defend those issues, so they needed to divert attention and ensure no DNC ‘bounce.’ And go to the RNC and fear and war monger. 911 24/7. McCain has demonstrated such enormous contempt that it takes ones breathe away. just as he had contempt for his marriage vows when he dumped his crippled wife for one 20-years younger with a $100M checkbook. Just as he has contempt for ordinary Americans when he votes consistantly against ordinary people and for his corporate paymasters. He selected Miss Congeniality after ONE MEETING to be one heatbeat away from the nuQUEleer button, as she said, when she has absolutely no foreign policy OPINIONS let alone experience. He is truly a contemptible man who has said all he needs to say about his beliefs about women with the choice of this PR Puppet. Of course he called his wife a C**T…he has contempt for her too. Yes, I am for COMPETENT women and men. McCain and Palin are not competent for this era in America or for the world. I hope that Romney, etc enjoy being water carriers for this woman on Monday.

Can you even imagine what the Republican Convention is going to be like? They may have been able to get away with the manufactured fake enthusiasm for this presidential candidate most of them don’t really like and his horrible choice for VP who nobody knows IF they were not following right behind the Democratic Convention with it’s REAL enthusiasm. And with 38.5 million viewers who watching the Democratic Convention, that number had to include many Republicans and Independents who will also watch the Republican Convention and the contrast will be striking.

Deburca, I think that may be wishful thinking. But our “happy place” is always safest in times of trouble.

YOU GO GIRL! Boy have you said a mouthful! Competency? In GOP politics? Remember, they choose Eisenhower, good as he turned out to be (sort of - at least he warned us about the Military Corporate Machine - you know, the one GW is pushing - his mercenaries & lucrative defense contracts ;+} - who had NEVER VOTED ONCE in his entire LIFE!!! The audacity of the GOP rears its ugly, competative head once more. KEEP ON TRUCKIN’ - Winery - & lets get to work for a better America!

I just read that Palin has a bachelors degree in journalism. She minored in Political Science. As far as I am concerned she not only is lacking in experience, she is lacking in credentials.

You are so “right on”! How stupid does McCain think we are? 18 months as Governor of Alaska and being a member of a city council makes you ready to be Vice President,not to mention President? Incredible! I’ve never had the privilege or leisure time to be a “hockey mom” so maybe i just don’t understand;

Your comments are ignorant and ridiculous. Sarah Palin has been in public office for 12 years and frankly having a president with less experience than this is much scarier in my opinion. To elect a man just because you would like to see a black man as president is IGNORANT. A corrupt man who accepted a house from a crook in return for 14 million dollars in government business. A man who spent 20 years in a racist church. A man who is so embarrassed about his educational achievements that he will not release his college grades. A man who truly prays on the ignorant by promising them freebies that this country cannot afford and by taxing the evil corporation. Let me ask you this who the hell is going to provide jobs for these people. Go to your public library pick up an economics book and research what will happen when you tax large corporations. Let me give you a clue they will move to where they can be profitable, cut costs and therefore jobs or go out of business.

Saying Sarah Palin has been in public office for 12 years and therefore has experience to serve as Vice President and most likely President of this country is like comparing me to Steve Jobs or Bill Gates. I started and have successfully run a business for 22+ years, but being the CEO of my small business just doesn’t put me in the same universe with them. My support for Barack Obama has absolutely nothing to do with the colour of his skin. Let’s be cautious about bringing up college grades. I don’t recall GWB being a stellar or even adequate student, unless we’re talking about partying 101-401. At this point, it’s about damn time that corporations start getting taxed! There is a GAO report due out Tuesday that says that 2/3 of US corporations pay NO tax. I would love to do all of the research and give you the specific names of huge corporations that have a zero tax bill, but I want to watch the talking heads on tv this morning. Will get back on this later. As for them moving, why leave? Hey, they already pay no taxes here, yet get government incentives. Just wish my small company could manage a sweet deal like that.

It’s interesting that you can write an entire post based on your assumptions and biases and have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AT ALL true is astonishing. Maybe wOw gives a trophy for that?
