Whoopi Weighs in on Sarah Palin and Reader Comments on Her Obama Post!

Whoopi Goldberg

Well, as I’m watching television this morning, it appears that John McCain may pick Gov. Sarah Palin, of Alaska, to appease all of those angry women — the ones who were going to vote for Hillary and then threatened to vote for John McCain — by just picking a woman. It’s expedient, and should make everybody feel better. After all, what do women actually know? They’ll pick any female, as long it’s not a guy. That kind of thinking is so insulting I don’t know what to say.

I’m sure Sarah Palin (we’ll find out more information on her) is a wonderful woman, but if you’re a Democrat why would you go for a Republican female that you don’t know much about just because she’s female? Has John McCain missed the point? Or is that the point? That these angry women are angry because a woman was not picked … not Hillary Clinton … but a woman.

I looked at some of the comments to my Barack Obama post this morning and I thought they were fantastic. There was one lady who was irritated with me, I guess because I called Barack Obama an African American.

Well, normally one would say, "Well, his dad is African," as some of the other folks who were on the site pointed out and, "He is American," so that would make him an African American, in the truest sense of the word. The irritated comment was from Helen King. Well, Helen, he brags about his family but I’m sure he just wanted to make folks who were concerned about whether or not he could deal with white people feel better about the fact that half of his family is white. You know, so he’d be able to talk to white folks without freaking people out.

Helen said, "You never hear him brag about that." Well, in fact, he showed mama’s picture and grandmama’s picture and granddaddy’s picture quite a bit. We see pictures of his black father, but it’s kind of obvious he’s black, so he wants to let everybody know that he also has white in him. I guess in a funny way it means that he’s a well-rounded American. And just for the record, "African American" is cool, and although I do enjoy seeing the word Negro, one doesn’t generally say African Negro. One would just say Negro.

She may well have done these things, Patricia. Not to take away from those, but there are thousands upon thousands of women all across the United States who are mayors of small towns, first-term state senators, state legislators, state government officials and governors who have equivalent or greater experience than Gov. Palin. Who are not under investigation for malfeasance in office, and who support women’s rights, or the rights of polar bears to survive. Who are not members of the NRA. Sens. Hutchison and Snowe are experienced and intelligent republican united states senators. Both are highly qualified for the Presidency. I wouldn’t vote for them, but I would respect them being chosen. That Sen. Hitchison says not only was she not chosen, she wasn’t even consulted, and that Sen. Snowe doesn’t even mention this situation on her website (at 9/1/08) tells a deep story.

The real question everyone needs to ask…If John McCain is in office and he dies, would you want a unexperienced woman running this country?????

Sarah isn’t the top of the ticket. I sure know that I don’t want an inexperienced MAN running the country.

But, presumably, you voted for Bush anyway?

I think the real question that needs to be asked is, what experience does Obama have to be president. What has he actually acomplished during his 143 days in the Senate that qualifies him to be president?

She has run my state beautifully and without mistake and I know that she would be just fine. She isn’t shy to ask for imput or to listen to her advisors. She would be jjjuuuuusssttt fine…..

No Way-No How -No McCain
Senator Boxer: “The vice president is a heartbeat away from becoming president, so to choose someone with not one hour’s worth of experience on national issues is a dangerous choice. If John McCain thought that choosing Sarah Palin would attract Hillary Clinton voters, he is badly mistaken. The only similarity between her and Hillary Clinton is that they are both women. On the issues, they could not be further apart. Sen. McCain had so many other options if he wanted to put a woman on his ticket, such as Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison or Sen. Olympia Snowe -– they would have been an appropriate choice compared to this dangerous choice. In addition, Sarah Palin is under investigation by the Alaska state legislature, which makes this more incomprehensible.”

im shure everyone will get all fired up about this but just to pose a somewhat reasonable argument john couldnt win nomatter who he picked, if he picked a women … well this is the result, if he picked a black man that wouldnt fly, everyone would just say “o’ you think we will settle for a black vice president instead of president?” and if he picked a white man everyone would say “see he’s not about any change he wants white men to keep running the country” anyone knew this would be the reaction nomatter what he did…… so even if you dont like the guy….. maybe he stopped worrying about all that and actually did pick because he thought she was the best one for the job

I’m thinking you’re right, Michael, “McCain couldn’t win no matter who he picked.”

I will be supporting McCain, and I think his VP choice was a good move. For the record, I am a woman, and a single-mom, and I fully support this team!!

Whoopi says: We are going to be faced with real life and death issues. Women trying to figure out whether they can afford to have another child and opting out saying, “No I can’t do that.” So a democrat finally admits that most abortions are for convenience and not for the health of the mother. Obama even supports partial birth abortions and allowing babies born alive after a late term abortion to die in a trash can. You women make me sick. Gov Palin has a child with Down’s. She was told to abort the baby, and choose LIFE. Happy Birthday John McCain- you will be the next president, especially after making this particular woman your VP choice. Way to go! We welcome all the Hillary supporters to the Right Side. I think we will be drilling in Alaska within 2yrs!!! Yeahh!!!! Doc Kernan
