Whoopi Weighs in on Sarah Palin and Reader Comments on Her Obama Post!

Whoopi Goldberg

Well, as I’m watching television this morning, it appears that John McCain may pick Gov. Sarah Palin, of Alaska, to appease all of those angry women — the ones who were going to vote for Hillary and then threatened to vote for John McCain — by just picking a woman. It’s expedient, and should make everybody feel better. After all, what do women actually know? They’ll pick any female, as long it’s not a guy. That kind of thinking is so insulting I don’t know what to say.

I’m sure Sarah Palin (we’ll find out more information on her) is a wonderful woman, but if you’re a Democrat why would you go for a Republican female that you don’t know much about just because she’s female? Has John McCain missed the point? Or is that the point? That these angry women are angry because a woman was not picked … not Hillary Clinton … but a woman.

I looked at some of the comments to my Barack Obama post this morning and I thought they were fantastic. There was one lady who was irritated with me, I guess because I called Barack Obama an African American.

Well, normally one would say, "Well, his dad is African," as some of the other folks who were on the site pointed out and, "He is American," so that would make him an African American, in the truest sense of the word. The irritated comment was from Helen King. Well, Helen, he brags about his family but I’m sure he just wanted to make folks who were concerned about whether or not he could deal with white people feel better about the fact that half of his family is white. You know, so he’d be able to talk to white folks without freaking people out.

Helen said, "You never hear him brag about that." Well, in fact, he showed mama’s picture and grandmama’s picture and granddaddy’s picture quite a bit. We see pictures of his black father, but it’s kind of obvious he’s black, so he wants to let everybody know that he also has white in him. I guess in a funny way it means that he’s a well-rounded American. And just for the record, "African American" is cool, and although I do enjoy seeing the word Negro, one doesn’t generally say African Negro. One would just say Negro.

Terri, you really have no concept at all of liberalism, and your snide little putdowns of liberals just shows you totally lack any real knowledge of american history, politics, economics, social policy, the US Constitution, reality, or how to be amusing.

Perhaps through the liberal eye glasses. Gee…I think I’m being rather diplomatic.

Terri, Here’s some of her beliefs…………If you agree with these then she is your woman….. What more can I say………… Palin recently said that the war in Iraq is “God’s task.” She’s even admitted she hasn’t thought about the war much—just last year she was quoted saying, “I’ve been so focused on state government, I haven’t really focused much on the war in Iraq.” (Now she announced to the World and the enemys in Iraq……I’m sending my son over in Sept, (My God talk about putting a target on her sons back) Poor guy. I hope he returns safe God really need to watch over him………his Mother doesn’t seem to take any precautions. Palin has actively sought the support of the fringe Alaska Independence Party. Six months ago, Palin told members of the group—who advocate for a vote on secession from the union—to “keep up the good work” and “wished the party luck on what she called its ‘inspiring convention.’” Palin wants to teach creationism in public schools. She hasn’t made clear whether she thinks evolution is a fact. Palin doesn’t believe that humans contribute to global warming. Speaking about climate change, she said, “I’m not one though who would attribute it to being manmade.” Palin has close ties to Big Oil. Her inauguration was even sponsored by BP. Palin is extremely anti-choice. She doesn’t even support abortion in the case of rape or incest. Palin opposes comprehensive sex-ed in public schools. She’s said she will only support abstinence-only approaches. As mayor, Palin tried to ban books from the library. Palin asked the library how she might go about banning books because some had inappropriate language in them—shocking the librarian, Mary Ellen Baker. According to Time, “news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving “full support” to the mayor.” She DID support the Bridge to Nowhere (before she opposed it). Palin claimed that she said “thanks, but no thanks” to the infamous Bridge to Nowhere. But in 2006, Palin supported the project repeatedly, saying that Alaska should take advantage of earmarks “while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist.” What more can I say except I’m tired of the gossip…………..lets start dealing with the facts about this woman.

I really have to say the self-righteous right are getting their bashing from a higher power these days. Pray to have a storm hit Denver to interrupt Sen. Obama’s speech? Didn’t seem like too terrific an idea. All this self-righteousness about the Christian right and famlee values? Gov. Palin’s unwed teenage daughter is pregnant? Hum. Oh, right, do as I say not as I do….blah blah blah blah. Terri, you might want to tune in and watch the neocons wipe their ass on the Constitution up on St. Paul, arresting people “pre-emptively” because they might could maybe do something maybe possibly, but not charge them because that would be wrong and anyway there’s nothing to charge them with, and besides they might get a judge to get upset about violations of the knock warrants when the police kicked in the door instead, and holding assault weapons on children forced to the floor by out of control FBI and cops, but that’s all right, because you know what is really going on, don’t you, my dear. It’s all the liberals’ fault. Don’t confuse yourself with any facts, honey.

Terri, I’m sorry that you cling to the raft of your pre-packaged neo-con views handed to you to help you through your fear of facing the real problems of the world, rowing through these stormy seas with your little oars of platitude and propaganda, but the rest of us have to pull ourselves together and clean up the godawful mess you’ve made of things.

Well, apparently, DeB, she missed the Starr Chamber. If there is anything at all anyone doesn’t know about the Clintons, I can’t imagine, although I am still unclear as to how many nose hairs Bill has. So after all that insanity where the neo-cons and Starr went through the Clintons’ trash for years and years (like the bottom-crawling scum they are), why on earth would Sen. Obama need to vet Sen. Clinton?

For one, to find out who their financial backers and what their financial dealings have been these past few years. Find out if there are any legs to the rumblings about Bills behavior these past 8 years. All that is fair game and important to know before putting someone on the ticket. Imagine if nobody vetted John Edwards and put him on the ticket before his scandal broke? It’s just the way things are done. Except of course in the case of the GOP and John McCain who apparently didn’t bother vetting Palin before choosing her so now the media is doing the job. Would we want to spend the next few weeks having the media vetting the Clintons’ financial and personal issues up until November? If Hillary Clinton wanted to be VP there is no reason why she should have insisted on not being vetted, and certainly no reason why Obama shouldn’t have required it first.

Vet Hillary??? Isn’t she already the most vetted woman in politics?

Josie, I respect this woman, but I wonder about the choice. She has got some energy behind her. We shall see. I wouldn’t hope this on anyone.
