Whoopi Weighs in on Sarah Palin and Reader Comments on Her Obama Post!

Whoopi Goldberg

Well, as I’m watching television this morning, it appears that John McCain may pick Gov. Sarah Palin, of Alaska, to appease all of those angry women — the ones who were going to vote for Hillary and then threatened to vote for John McCain — by just picking a woman. It’s expedient, and should make everybody feel better. After all, what do women actually know? They’ll pick any female, as long it’s not a guy. That kind of thinking is so insulting I don’t know what to say.

I’m sure Sarah Palin (we’ll find out more information on her) is a wonderful woman, but if you’re a Democrat why would you go for a Republican female that you don’t know much about just because she’s female? Has John McCain missed the point? Or is that the point? That these angry women are angry because a woman was not picked … not Hillary Clinton … but a woman.

I looked at some of the comments to my Barack Obama post this morning and I thought they were fantastic. There was one lady who was irritated with me, I guess because I called Barack Obama an African American.

Well, normally one would say, "Well, his dad is African," as some of the other folks who were on the site pointed out and, "He is American," so that would make him an African American, in the truest sense of the word. The irritated comment was from Helen King. Well, Helen, he brags about his family but I’m sure he just wanted to make folks who were concerned about whether or not he could deal with white people feel better about the fact that half of his family is white. You know, so he’d be able to talk to white folks without freaking people out.

Helen said, "You never hear him brag about that." Well, in fact, he showed mama’s picture and grandmama’s picture and granddaddy’s picture quite a bit. We see pictures of his black father, but it’s kind of obvious he’s black, so he wants to let everybody know that he also has white in him. I guess in a funny way it means that he’s a well-rounded American. And just for the record, "African American" is cool, and although I do enjoy seeing the word Negro, one doesn’t generally say African Negro. One would just say Negro.

Whoopie…you are so on. I can’t believe McCain picked this woman as his running mate. I hope people really read about her. So far I have heard she is anti-choice . That kind of thinking really scares me. She stated in a news cast that she took on the big oil boys but didn’t say how. I can’t believe there are no other really bright Rep. woman out there. What was he and his advisers thinking? This should be a very interesting Fall. We may have an election up here in Canada and it will not be a tenth as exciting at your’s down south. If you have trouble sleeping hook into our election news. On second thought boring isn’t so bad and I do love our health care!

I believe this was a great choice for McCain, he has had her in his sight for longer then you think. This woman Palin has had more government experience then Obama. For example she was a governor will more responsibilities then Obama has had. She had to make things happen, like sticking to the facts with the oil corruption that happened in Alaska (50.000 dollars missing) She stuck to her guns on making it known she will not tolerate thieves even if they are Republicans. I pray they win and please do shake up this Congress/ Senate. They are the worse acting Senate/congress in history. McCain has the experience to run this country well enough, and he is no Bush how the Democrats/Liberals would like you to believe. If you like feeling safe in your home vote for McCain if you want your payroll to be less vote for Obama. More government has to be paid some way. Including more programs, its going to be left to us to pay the burden of Obama’s projects. His speeches are nice but he has yet to this day not said how he will make even one single thing happen or how its going to be paid for. McCain has over and over again. Go McCain and Palin 2008

What was he thinking???? Now anybody who loves this country, Democrat, Republican or Independent, will realize how out of touch with reality McCain and the Republicans are. Insulting to women, insulting to America. Gov. Palin might be a lovely woman, but don’t, don’t, don’t try to compare her qualifications with Hillary Clinton, or for that matter to any other woman now serving in the U.S. Congress. The Republicans have insulted the average American’s intelligence for years and deserve to be booted out-of-office; November 4th can’t get here fast enough!.

I am not familiar with Sarah Palin. I will inform myself about her and her accomplishments as gov of Alaska, not because i will be voting for mccain but so i will know more about her. I do feel however that mccain’s choice as a woman is both great but a little confusing to me. It seems that he his hoping to win over those who are just bent on seeing a woman on the ticket because so many wanted hillary. How qualified is Sarah Palin to be Vice President and possibly President if something happens to McCain? I will continue to support Obama for the election.

Gala Girl - I do not think that Senator McCain is saying by his selection of Gov. Palin that Senator Clinton is replaceable. What Senator McCain did by this selection is target those women who were insulted by Senator Obama with that comment that they were embittered and therefore cling to their guns and religion. Some of those women, especially the elderly ones, were for Hillary. But they are not for Obama. John is going after those supporters of Senator Clinton. It is a good tactic and might just win. I hope it does win. But, the pressure will be immense for Governor Palin to say all the right things, make no ungraceful moves, and to keep her hair combed or those sexist pundits in the media will come right after her. Those of who care, will actually listen to the woman.

Geraldine Ferraro had some interesting comments to make about the selection and about supporters of Senator Clinton. She said about 50% of the women who supported Clinton will move over to vote for Obama…and it will not be a difficult decision. Another group want to vote for Obama but they need more reassurance. One other group, that I can remember she mentioned, are the women in the key states….. Pennsylvania, Michigan etc. Governor Palin will have some appeal to those women and they might make the change….easily. And these are the votes that McCain is seeking. Senator McCain’s choice might very well be a stunning success. It will have to play out. Back to Ms. Ferraro’s comments. She said she will be looking very closely at the media for signs of continuing sexism against a female candidate. I think from what was seen together on MSNBC, I don’t think anyone has to worry - the sexism is alive and well there. Oh by the way, Ms. Ferraro is still furious with the Obama campaign and has yet to make her own endorsement. She says, “I am a loyal Democrat” so I would think that she will vote for Obama…. but not enthusiastically.

McCain did not do this to per sway woman more. It was a great choice he made. He seems to be more for change then Obama come on a 20 something years Senate man(Biden) that is not a change for the good. I am so glad he picked someone that is not in the Senate. This is a change. She is fresh, smart, knows how to control the bullies, and she has had more government experience then Obama. She is running a state that we have the most oil out put. Obama has never ran a state nor voted for anything good for the people. He does vote no alot. He also has lost another year in politics to run for President, should he not just focus on this and focus on his Senate seat or can he not multi task something woman are great at doing.

I haven’t read the whole thread and I don’t have time to right now, but I’ve just got to comment. If I’m being redundant I apologize in advance. That John McCain and the republican party would think that just any woman would suffice just gives me one more reason for being a Democrat. Any woman who was a supporter of Hillary and votes for McCain because he has a woman as a vp running mate is dangerous. She’s dangerous because she’s ignorant of the repercussions of her misguided choice.

I’m fascinated at how many have signed up on this site today in order to post about Ms. Palin. Hmmmmm…wonder who stirred the nest and posted the link to this site to get all of the pro-Palin posts? Just look at how many new posters have joined us today and have *only* contributed to the McCain selection for VP. Damn, Karl has been a busy boy. I can’t WAIT to watch the return of Bill Maher tonight!

Another typical Dem behavior! Any support for a Republican candidate must be manufactured by some sort of conspiracy, right? Wrong, Vivvy Stewart! There are actually independent women who support John McCain and his choice of Sarah Palin and do not want her slandered in an all-Democratic hate fest! Not that I have to justify anything to paranoid minds, but I caught this story on Yahoo and was so shocked by its tone and that of the comments posted, that I felt I had to respond! How’s that as a conspiracy theory? What a shock, huh Vivvy ? There are actually women who think for themselves and don’t follow the pack!
