Whoopi Weighs in on Sarah Palin and Reader Comments on Her Obama Post!

Whoopi Goldberg

Well, as I’m watching television this morning, it appears that John McCain may pick Gov. Sarah Palin, of Alaska, to appease all of those angry women — the ones who were going to vote for Hillary and then threatened to vote for John McCain — by just picking a woman. It’s expedient, and should make everybody feel better. After all, what do women actually know? They’ll pick any female, as long it’s not a guy. That kind of thinking is so insulting I don’t know what to say.

I’m sure Sarah Palin (we’ll find out more information on her) is a wonderful woman, but if you’re a Democrat why would you go for a Republican female that you don’t know much about just because she’s female? Has John McCain missed the point? Or is that the point? That these angry women are angry because a woman was not picked … not Hillary Clinton … but a woman.

I looked at some of the comments to my Barack Obama post this morning and I thought they were fantastic. There was one lady who was irritated with me, I guess because I called Barack Obama an African American.

Well, normally one would say, "Well, his dad is African," as some of the other folks who were on the site pointed out and, "He is American," so that would make him an African American, in the truest sense of the word. The irritated comment was from Helen King. Well, Helen, he brags about his family but I’m sure he just wanted to make folks who were concerned about whether or not he could deal with white people feel better about the fact that half of his family is white. You know, so he’d be able to talk to white folks without freaking people out.

Helen said, "You never hear him brag about that." Well, in fact, he showed mama’s picture and grandmama’s picture and granddaddy’s picture quite a bit. We see pictures of his black father, but it’s kind of obvious he’s black, so he wants to let everybody know that he also has white in him. I guess in a funny way it means that he’s a well-rounded American. And just for the record, "African American" is cool, and although I do enjoy seeing the word Negro, one doesn’t generally say African Negro. One would just say Negro.

Linda, Linda, Linda - poor Linda. True, the Pres. enacts laws, the Congress makes them & the Judiciary interprets them … BUT … you say: “I have a great problem with her stance on Choice. I believe it is a woman’s choice to control her body. I also have gay friends who are married. I do take heart in McCain’s comments with Pastor Warren that he is Anti Choice but also a Federalist and does not think it is the federal government’s right to enact legislation on the subject…” Think about this, so far, GW’s Judicial appointments have usurped the rights of home ownership (eminent domain), a city’s right to “control” gun ownership in their own city, and too many more individual & civil rights issues to count. They have interpreted the law - too often based on their own personal ideals, rather than the laws the legislature put in place. SO, with about 3 Supreme Court Justices about ready to retire … what do you think they’ll do on this issue when McCain appoints more anti-choice Justices to the bench? Can you be sure he’ll find some “moderates” when he’s pandering to the neo-conservitives by picking a woman with such a strong stand on that issue? I have my doubts.

I don’t mean any disrespect to Governor Palin and her many accomplishments, and I am dead certain that she loves her family, her country and her party but she is a dead ringer for that former Secretary of State of Florida who helped steal the 2004 election from Al Gore. BTW Ms Schmaelzle, if Senator Obama is a product of the Chicago political machine, where was Mayor Daley these past three nights? Keeping a lo pro?

Northern Lights, So what are you saying, now you have to apologize for being an Canadian resident? Canada has some big problems, but they never talk about them. Isn’t Canada experiencing higher murder rates?

I am ecstatic about the McCain/Palin ticket. Weren’t Presidents Carter and Clinton once Governors? Palin is one smart women and will do an excellent job. Talk about discrimination. How about discriminating about age? You have McCain dead and buried. Haven’t you heard that people are living longer lives? Today’s 72 is yesterdays 50. What happened to respect for maturaty, wisdom, and experience? He has alot of living to do and will be a great president. He has already proven to be a great American. Can we all say the same? He may not know her as personally as “we” might like, but she has the experience to handle the job. I give him credit for being so gutsy in selecting Palin. I don’t know of many people that had personal connections with their employer/running mate before being interviewed/selected for a position. Palin may have a vagina but she also has a brain. After hearing her speech and studying her political record, she has the dedication and experience to handle anything thrown her way. Try reading more about Governor Sarah Palin before voicing your opinion.

I’ve spent the day reading about her, She is not only anti-choice, she wants to criminalize abortion, she is against stem cell research, and to top it off she wants Creationism taught in schools, for those reasons alone I would never vote for her. I could care less that she is a woman, but she is as far from Hillary as any woman could get. Any person who said they were for Hillary and now says they will vote for McCain is either lying or ignorant. Someone who has a minor degree in Poly Sci, was a mayor of a hamlet of 5000 people, and 18 months as governor of a state with a population lass than San fran. and NO experience outside of Alaska is not ready to be Vice President of the most powerful country on earth, let alone President. At least Obama was a professor of constitutional law so he understands the foundation this country was built on. That one thing alone puts him head and shoulders above her.

No Way-No How -No McCain
Barbara—-I have read plenty about her and that’s why I am hoping she is indicited for Troppergate to make her and this disasterous selection go away. With all the natl press attention and a piece in the Washington Post about her actions that have led to the investigation—-now a very bright light will be shined on this matter and if she did what is alledged she’ll be gone. Goodie. Because her values stink. In the meantime, this is what Senator Boxer said and she is right on, “The vice president is a heartbeat away from becoming president, so to choose someone with not one hour’s worth of experience on national issues is a dangerous choice. If John McCain thought that choosing Sarah Palin would attract Hillary Clinton voters, he is badly mistaken. The only similarity between her and Hillary Clinton is that they are both women. On the issues, they could not be further apart. Sen. McCain had so many other options if he wanted to put a woman on his ticket, such as Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison or Sen. Olympia Snowe -– they would have been an appropriate choice compared to this dangerous choice. In addition, Sarah Palin is under investigation by the Alaska state legislature, which makes this more incomprehensible.”

The more I read about her, the more horrified I am by the cheap cynicism McCain exhibited in selecting her. If you knew your own party, you would also be horrified that Sens. Hutchison and Snowe were not even considered. But that’s okay. McCain has “maturaty.” Whatever that is.

Where in the world does Whoopi have any experience to judge or make a any kind of statement about Sarah Palin??? She is a show host on the View. Big frickin’ deal. Yeah, that says she knows what she is talking about. Just another example of celebrities mouthing off and all of a sudden becoming an expert about who should run this country. Do what you do best, read the monitor telling you what to say or acting on a stage, in a movie or on TV. Obama will not see the inside of the White House as President. We don’t need a Muslim running this country. Nor his wife who is a disgrace to all Americans. And Biden? HAHAHA!!! Thank God Billary was not chosen as VP for never gonna be President Obama. Clintons should be banned from D.C. Sarah Palin has given new life to the Republicans. As far as I see it, SHE should be running for President, not McCain. McCain and Palin all the way in 2008 and in office January 20, 2009.
