Whoopi Weighs in on Sarah Palin and Reader Comments on Her Obama Post!

Whoopi Goldberg

Well, as I’m watching television this morning, it appears that John McCain may pick Gov. Sarah Palin, of Alaska, to appease all of those angry women — the ones who were going to vote for Hillary and then threatened to vote for John McCain — by just picking a woman. It’s expedient, and should make everybody feel better. After all, what do women actually know? They’ll pick any female, as long it’s not a guy. That kind of thinking is so insulting I don’t know what to say.

I’m sure Sarah Palin (we’ll find out more information on her) is a wonderful woman, but if you’re a Democrat why would you go for a Republican female that you don’t know much about just because she’s female? Has John McCain missed the point? Or is that the point? That these angry women are angry because a woman was not picked … not Hillary Clinton … but a woman.

I looked at some of the comments to my Barack Obama post this morning and I thought they were fantastic. There was one lady who was irritated with me, I guess because I called Barack Obama an African American.

Well, normally one would say, "Well, his dad is African," as some of the other folks who were on the site pointed out and, "He is American," so that would make him an African American, in the truest sense of the word. The irritated comment was from Helen King. Well, Helen, he brags about his family but I’m sure he just wanted to make folks who were concerned about whether or not he could deal with white people feel better about the fact that half of his family is white. You know, so he’d be able to talk to white folks without freaking people out.

Helen said, "You never hear him brag about that." Well, in fact, he showed mama’s picture and grandmama’s picture and granddaddy’s picture quite a bit. We see pictures of his black father, but it’s kind of obvious he’s black, so he wants to let everybody know that he also has white in him. I guess in a funny way it means that he’s a well-rounded American. And just for the record, "African American" is cool, and although I do enjoy seeing the word Negro, one doesn’t generally say African Negro. One would just say Negro.

Oh, this is rich. We’ve got all the “hot button” hate going on in one post. Way to go, Judy. First, anybody who doesn’t agree with me must be gay. Oh, my. You don’t read Obama emails. Or anything else, I would imagine, because you seem to know absolutely nothing at all about his issues, positions, etc. Just that he’s black. Only he isn’t. He’s mixed race. And that he’s Muslim. Only he isn’t. wOw isn’t for Democrats only. A whole lot of our republican sisters disagree with you as well. Sarah Palin isn’t Pro-Life, she’s anti-choice. She’s for keeping women barefoot and pregnant, as the old saying goes, with no way out of poverty and subjugation — informed choice, birth control, abortion, these are private matters, Judy, and you have enjoyed that right and freedom your entire life and HOW FLIPPING DARE YOU turn your back on what thousands of women over generations fought to give you? You are still not admitting your party is responsible for the illegal, immoral murder of women, civilian men, and children (including in utero) who have been blown to pieces, shot, and burned alive in Iraq, hundreds of thousands of them. You don’t care, because why? They’re Muslim? And then you think we are the problem because we are offended by your opinions? Yes, express them, so we know just who you are. God isn’t making the decisions about what human babies are born. We are. God gave us brains and we are supposed to use them. Not overpopulate the earth and destroy the plants and wildlife on it to geometrically have “babies.” Or perhaps you haven’t noticed that your precious babies grow up to be people who live in housing, drive vehicles, drink water, eat food, use fuel, need jobs, etc. That of course isn’t your problem. You need to defend the fetus. Oh, Lord, mother, my blood pressure medicine! Quick!

You, MP, will be ignored when ever I receive something from you. You assume my party. You didn’t read the post I read about being gay. You think you know that I don’t read anything. Funny, I never said I think Obama is black, mixed, purple, green or whatever. It doesn’t matter to ME that he is of mixed race, must to you. And I assume you know that “a whole lot of our republican sisters disagree” with me because YOU have talked to each and every one of them. And you would rather have had that war over here in the US, because believe me, it would have been some where. And gee, when did I say I don’t care about the war? I don’t give a damn if you are offended by my opinions. Go take your blood pressure medicine because you surely need it. And yes, I will gladly defend the fetus. To bad you found this site. It looks like that’s all you do.

Yes! Please! Ignore me, ignore me! Finally, Judy. And you might want to do something about that road-rage.

Shawn I am always curious why men come here. Did you link in or did you just find us? We have a few other men, most are straight and sometimes we give them a hard time. Your post was clear and thoughtful, thanks for stopping by.

I have never had such fun as today in listening to the political hooplah of McCain’s choice for a VP. If he chose her simply because she is a woman, shame of him, there were much better choices with more experience. If he chose her for her conservatism, he will push voter’s even further away. Pro-life, NRA lifetime member, 18mos as Gov., believes that global warming is a hoax, is suing to get polar bears off the endangered species list and thinks it is okay to shoot endangered wolves and bears from aircraft! This is not a person I want in office. As for Obama’s lack of experience: he was a state senator for 8yrs and has been a senator for 4yrs now. Although 12yrs experience in government isn’t as much as some, it certainly is way more than some republican’s have been giving him credit for. I keep reading that Obama is muslim, he has never been muslim. His father was muslim, but he has always been a christian and was raised a christian. Let’s face it folks, McCain would be more of the same. We as American’s cannot suffer another 4yrs of mismanagement and we will certainly end up in a depression if the economic’s of this country are not changed who ever ends up in office. When I told my daughter of McCain’s choice she asked me if he was deliberately trying to loose the election. I think that statement sum’s it all up.

I lived in Alaska when Sarah was elected Governor. She was of interest to me because she was a woman and I wanted to believe in her. I found that her focus on ethics was good, but that, in the debates, she ducked many of the hard questions by saying she “didn’t answer hypotheticals”… thus avoiding having a public stand in the face of many of the difficult issues Alaska has. When Sarah was elected, I asked people why they had voted for her. Many times, men answered saying “because she’s hot”! And they meant it. In Alaska, the winters are long and dark and one mode of entertainment is the televising of hearings when the legislature convenes. Thus I was able to watch the process of addressing ethical concerns in the state and witnessed that it was truly a bipartisan effort, with the leaders coming from each party, carefully not having affiliations which would taint their work. It was a successful effort and important to her, and it was a team effort. It is clear that she is in favor of the development of resources in Alaska and wants that to be a transparent process (which it hadn’t been in the past). She is a “true Alaskan”, reveling in the use of the resources that are there… from fishing and hunting, to mining and going after the oil and gas that are there. She has that peculiar combination of toughness and softness that are present in so many Alaskans who have to deal with survival all the time. I think that she is authentic and dedicated to her beliefs. Those beliefs are conservative and are definitely male identified. Witness how much time she spent introducing the men in her family while briefly touching on the presence of her daughters. It would be better if she were more seasoned before being thrown into the limelight with McCain. I think she has a chance to develop a deep sense of compassion and to broaden her understanding of things when she carries the weight that comes with making difficult decisions that effect the lives of some many people. I think this nomination is premature. But, as Rush Limbaugh said today, “we have a babe running on our ticket!” I think we will have a definite choice between two distinct ways of being governed…. and need to stay focused on that fact. Jenny G Do you have any other information about her record or what she has accomplished in office. I can’t stand the “Babe” comments by Rush L on the radio, not that I favor her, I just think it is stupid and rude. I am wondering why you think she agreed to join the ticket? Did you vote for her when she ran? I think you are trying to give us a fair assessment of her. What else can you tell us about her accomplishments? What do the people of Alaska think about her being tapped? I heard her say in her acceptance speech that there was a natural gas line project. Is it presently in construction, or when will it begin? Natural gas would be great to power cars with. If there is one, I wonder what it is being sourced for, or if it is going to be sold outside of the US? Sorry so many questions, but you seem like you pay attention to your state politics. I am obviously from the lower 48, and am interested in energy independence. Just curious.

On a lighter note, to those of you who haven’t seen this yet I am posting it again in the Palin threads to let Pat Buchanan remind us just how great Obama was on Thursday (watch till the end, Olberman’s reaction is so funny?): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0Fru4dZLGA

Great point Whoopi. It wasn’t just ANY woman, it was HILLARY CLINTON! This entire concept seems to have escaped John McCain and his handlers.

My first EVER post. When I saw the announcement of Palin, I did a double take. I thought I was looking at Tina Fey. My Alias called it. And Winery Lifestyle, thanks for the stats. So many bright postings. And Whoopi, you are so right. McCain just went for a woman. He could have gone for Leiberman and garnered more of the Jewish vote. Leiberman is a hawk like him, but unlike Palin, he has experience. Now McCain can no longer attack Obama with being inexperienced. He could have chosen the youthful Romney & played the ‘economy’ card, but he thought he had to find a woman. Any woman.

by judy pfeifer~Where in the world does Whoopi have any experience to judge or make a any kind of statement about Sarah Palin??? She is a show host on the View. Big frickin’ deal. Yeah, that says she knows what she is talking about. Just another example of celebrities mouthing off and all of a sudden becoming an expert about who should run this country. Do what you do best, read the monitor telling you what to say or acting on a stage, in a movie or on TV. Obama will not see the inside of the White House as President. We don’t need a Muslim running this country. Nor his wife who is a disgrace to all Americans. And Biden? HAHAHA!!! Thank God Billary was not chosen as VP for never gonna be President Obama. Clintons should be banned from D.C. Sarah Palin has given new life to the Republicans. As far as I see it, SHE should be running for President, not McCain. McCain and Palin all the way in 2008 and in office January 20, 2009. Judy, your racisim is showing. Please save your two cents and don’t buy into the “smear tactics” borne by the Republican propoganda machine. If you want to criticize Obama, please feel free to do so, as that is your right, however, do it with facts, not BS. It is well established that Obama, is a Christian not a Muslim. Oh and by the way, not all Muslims are fanatical Islamists ready to suicide bomb Starbucks. I have met several American born Muslims, all of great character.
