Whoopi Weighs in on Sarah Palin and Reader Comments on Her Obama Post!

Whoopi Goldberg

Well, as I’m watching television this morning, it appears that John McCain may pick Gov. Sarah Palin, of Alaska, to appease all of those angry women — the ones who were going to vote for Hillary and then threatened to vote for John McCain — by just picking a woman. It’s expedient, and should make everybody feel better. After all, what do women actually know? They’ll pick any female, as long it’s not a guy. That kind of thinking is so insulting I don’t know what to say.

I’m sure Sarah Palin (we’ll find out more information on her) is a wonderful woman, but if you’re a Democrat why would you go for a Republican female that you don’t know much about just because she’s female? Has John McCain missed the point? Or is that the point? That these angry women are angry because a woman was not picked … not Hillary Clinton … but a woman.

I looked at some of the comments to my Barack Obama post this morning and I thought they were fantastic. There was one lady who was irritated with me, I guess because I called Barack Obama an African American.

Well, normally one would say, "Well, his dad is African," as some of the other folks who were on the site pointed out and, "He is American," so that would make him an African American, in the truest sense of the word. The irritated comment was from Helen King. Well, Helen, he brags about his family but I’m sure he just wanted to make folks who were concerned about whether or not he could deal with white people feel better about the fact that half of his family is white. You know, so he’d be able to talk to white folks without freaking people out.

Helen said, "You never hear him brag about that." Well, in fact, he showed mama’s picture and grandmama’s picture and granddaddy’s picture quite a bit. We see pictures of his black father, but it’s kind of obvious he’s black, so he wants to let everybody know that he also has white in him. I guess in a funny way it means that he’s a well-rounded American. And just for the record, "African American" is cool, and although I do enjoy seeing the word Negro, one doesn’t generally say African Negro. One would just say Negro.

These “United” States? You know something? After reading as many posts on various blogs and seeing that the last couple of days have stirred a constant (and thorough) debate among us people, am I the only one who thinks it’s time to divide these “United” States into one or more countries? I mean, let’s all face it: two elections of 51/49. I can’t live by the thinking and practice of Bush/Cheney nor a McCain/Palin and I shouldn’t have to just because a couple more percent of this HUGE country want to. (or was it a couple percent the other way??) Let’s just face facts: the religious right-moral majority-“family values”-NRA-corporatocrats should have their own country to spoil. And you Christians who literally use the man’s name in vain because truly you espouse NOTHING of what Christ truly believed in can go live in that country. And the other half of us who do believe in the common good of all people and pass no judgment on people who are different than us (in fact, we embrace differences) and who are pro-choice, pro-gay rights, pro-everything that you don’t believe in, we can have our country too. We can elect an Obama/Biden and you can have your McCain/Palin. As long as we suffer under the moniker known as “United States”, we won’t have what we each want. Never, ever. We simply can’t see eye-to-eye. So, why should I live (as I have the past 8 years) under a government rule that I do not believe represents me? Take a look at history: many a land mass has been divided and re-divided, so: Let’s just get to the hard work of figuring out the separation and be done with it. Re-read each of your posts and you can see that ONE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT DOES NOT UNITE US. peace to all of you (be your “red” or “blue”)

Whoppi, I can only say AMEN, to everything you have said!!!! My decision was made pretty much made however, when Joe Biden came on the scene it was cemented in stone! McCain and his cronies may think that woman are happy settleing for anyone to hold one of the 2nd highest jobs in our nation as long as it’s a woman he is so far out of touch with today woman that it is pitiful Stupid is doing something when you know better, I would call his action the height of stupidity.

My first thought was “Oh My God He has selected Megan Mullally!” (her “Karen Walker” character from the “Will and Grace” show) After I found out more, I was not reassured. The man is 72 with 4 bouts of cancer behind him. The odds of this woman becoming president are pretty high. Everything I have read so far tells me she is ill prepared to be vice president, let alone president. If a McCain presidency scared me before, this has only intensified it. It seems a gimmick to me, as to somehow trick women into voting for him. I have news for him: do not underestimate the intelligence of women: we will not vote for her simply for her gender. When I see them on TV, I think it is a skit from “Saturday Night Live”, they have a surreal look to them. I hope this gives more people insight into the type of poor judgement he has,his attempts to manipulate

There are lots of smart dynamic accomplished women out there, Sarah Palin is all of those, but qualified to be President? Come on. You’re telling me someone with a BA in journalism could end up picking supreme court judges. Not to mention sitting down with heads of state. What an insult to the American people and to the world, that we would say, here you go, negotiate with this Buffalo burger eating Hockey mom. You’re going to love her. Forget that she in under educated and inexperienced, she’s got great glasses! I am appalled, disgusted, embarrassed and afraid. Mostly very, very afraid.

And again the only thing that people want to say about Sarah is that she was once a runner up in an beauty pageant! Like that means she has no depth or brains. Seriously! Alaska is currently handling larger issues (issues that will effect greatly your precious “BIG” cities in the lower 48) perhapse you have heard of a little thing called th ePebble Mine, the largest Mine proposition in North America, or maybe the North Slope…you know….we prove the US with 76 percent of its oil?? Or maybe even a little thing called ANWAR…the concept of relieving the united states’ dependance on foreign oil?Or handling the largest tourist traffic in the US….. You act like she has nothing to do here but heard wolves and wear a parka and compete in beauty compotitions is insulting & rediculious.
