Whoopi Weighs in on Sarah Palin and Reader Comments on Her Obama Post!

Whoopi Goldberg

Well, as I’m watching television this morning, it appears that John McCain may pick Gov. Sarah Palin, of Alaska, to appease all of those angry women — the ones who were going to vote for Hillary and then threatened to vote for John McCain — by just picking a woman. It’s expedient, and should make everybody feel better. After all, what do women actually know? They’ll pick any female, as long it’s not a guy. That kind of thinking is so insulting I don’t know what to say.

I’m sure Sarah Palin (we’ll find out more information on her) is a wonderful woman, but if you’re a Democrat why would you go for a Republican female that you don’t know much about just because she’s female? Has John McCain missed the point? Or is that the point? That these angry women are angry because a woman was not picked … not Hillary Clinton … but a woman.

I looked at some of the comments to my Barack Obama post this morning and I thought they were fantastic. There was one lady who was irritated with me, I guess because I called Barack Obama an African American.

Well, normally one would say, "Well, his dad is African," as some of the other folks who were on the site pointed out and, "He is American," so that would make him an African American, in the truest sense of the word. The irritated comment was from Helen King. Well, Helen, he brags about his family but I’m sure he just wanted to make folks who were concerned about whether or not he could deal with white people feel better about the fact that half of his family is white. You know, so he’d be able to talk to white folks without freaking people out.

Helen said, "You never hear him brag about that." Well, in fact, he showed mama’s picture and grandmama’s picture and granddaddy’s picture quite a bit. We see pictures of his black father, but it’s kind of obvious he’s black, so he wants to let everybody know that he also has white in him. I guess in a funny way it means that he’s a well-rounded American. And just for the record, "African American" is cool, and although I do enjoy seeing the word Negro, one doesn’t generally say African Negro. One would just say Negro.

Whoopie- I find you a truly wise woman and wise soul. Having you on the view makes it worthwhile. I admire your restraint in dealing with Elisabeth’s unseasoned views of the world. I doubt I could be so civil.

Whoopi, I never got the same read on you as Jeanne did. When I read her post, I couldn’t get a handle on it. Now I realize it was just confrontational. I have always seen you as a mentor for Elizabeth, not an adversary. When she says things that are off the wall, you try to bring her back; and you do it with real kindness. I must say, this election is not bringing out the best in many of us. I, for one, have been struggling re: us vs.them. I don’t usually think this way, & I normally think in the terms of the ‘family of man’ and our being in this together. But I have even noticed that I am staying away from my conservative friends these days. I think that the republican culture of fear that has served them so well is spreading much like McCarthyism did. So now I am more afraid of them than I am of the unlikely terrorist who can’t wait to take me out. Lately, I don’t even recognize myself. I am scared of these people. Am I really any different than them? Their arrogance & cruelty has to also come from fear.

Frankly I’m amazed at your patience with Elizabeth. She drives me nuts. I don’t agree with her on most, well maybe all, issues but that aside, she has no manners in a discussion. Passion, sure, 30, OK, but part of havng a conversation is listening. I would not allow my child to ‘discuss’ the way she does. It’s completely disrespectful of the other panelist.

Marcia - You are right. I had never thought of it before, but this election IS bringing out the worst in us. I, too, am having trouble dealing with my conservative friends. I am afraid of these people too. This is scary in so many ways. How awful to be so frightened of our fellow American’s who are supporting McCain Palin. I need to “step away” from the computer.

Poor Whoopi…lack of knowledge on display. By the way…there were a lot of people who wanted to “succeed” from the lower 48 in Ak. all had to do with what the greenies and the Senate and a Pres. named Clinton and Carter who have stopped a lot this, including a Senator named John McCain with his votes against drilling…this has done for decades, they have stopped the progress that was promised to them when they joined the Union…Ak. is two thirds govt. property…the rest is rich in mining, timber, and OIL…yet it keeps being given the sick in the eye…it is not as if the AIP is a bad thing, I thought we all had freedom here in this country Whoopi…you may want to check out some of the backers of the leftist party who aren’t American. Mrs. Cheryl Hampton not only did I do a google search on this imagined affair you & other leftwingers have falsely accuse Sarah Palin of having but several of us have gone so far as to hire an investigator, used a couple of solid contacts we have in Alaska, and found out you are totally wrong. By we I mean a group of Hillary supporters, so yeah we are Democrats. You googled a lie, and believed it. What is it that PT Barnham said about suckers? When you have the party of tolerance has to resort to lies, misreprentation and what borders on defamation….I can’t resist the urge to say ” you ve come along way DOWN baby’ -

marcia, yes you are correct and speak my feelings as well…..for these last eight years, i feel as if i have contracted that disease (forgot the name) that you constantly blurt out obcentities…..really, they have perpetuated this climate of fear, and used 9/11 to beat us down…..fear mongering! difficult to believe that americans can do that to other americans, and far more disturbing is humans inhumanity to each other… i have been guilty of the name calling, and i am disgusted too, by my behavior……am thinking that the anger being produced by the political events, is propelling be to act, and that’s a good thing…..i will be supporting obama, and waiting anxiously for the debates, especally the v.p. debate…..simply can’t stand the hockey mom, moose killing, polar bear killing, presumtive v.p. nominee…..see what i mean…..more blurts!

whoopi, you’re the best…..your restraint in handling elisabeth is comendable! undeserving as she is of your respect of yourself….i’m in awe… you a wonderful role model, i couldn’t be so nice…..her voice is like chalk on a blackboard….her insistence of her dogmatic views, and that she is right is astounding! her inability to stand aside and put herself in anybody else’s shoes, to feel compassion, to just shup up and listen is intolerable….if it wasn’t for you and the lady that sits next to you, i simply would not watch the show….and you know what ? this racism in this country is sickening…..can’t wait for President Obama to be sworn in!

From the West Coast I have to wonder what is going on in the rest of the country. My conservative “friends”, keep sending me the worst articles on Barack Obama. They describe the Dems as “The Union Organizer and the Professional Politician.”. I really have not heard that out here. But then again most of my friends these days are the dreaded typical Californians. You just don’t hear that kind of negative stuff for the most part. I hated that description when I first saw it and cannot help to note how small minded people can be..

first i was devastated by hillary having to step down, but i was hopeful for obama until the democratic convention. what i saw and heard from “sources” ?? was that obama was “afraid ?” to have the clintons anywhere near the white house and the look on michelle’s face during their magnificent speeches. ?. he dosen’t want their help? i am again devasted. my only option is to do a write in for hillary and i hope and pray the rest of the 18 million hillary supporters will do the same. really how worse can things get in 4 years? sorry sarah i respect what you have accomplished but you do not represent me as a replacement for hillary.

Oh Whoopi, whoopi, whoopi! How I have loved your films-and what a gift the good Lord has given you for humor. I’ve put my silly pic with my brilliant daughter who runs a big time program on a presitious campus on WOW to add a few laughs in a world gone mad (my girl will probably croak if she sees it). This is my first comment on Wow after the fact (election) re:Palin. I’d been a LIB girl for years. Now approaching 60 after my hippy days, being a teacher since the early 70’s and wanting to save the world-I am peaceful watching the silliness around me unfold each day and finally got Jesus (ha!-the truth-He got me) just like little Sarah. Whoopi-what a blessing you have one little Christian girl that really loves you enough on the View to tell it like it is, boyfriend ballplayer and all. Man she has love for you but guts as well. She won’t game you. That’s a Sarah Palin type girl: Disabled baby with her on the road-facing the giant boys be they lib or conserv. and ripping the men’s club no matter what comes out of their phoney phariseee religious mouths-ignoring the mocking of her Alaska lingo (people don’t like it when whites mock blackspeak either)-standing firm when her pregnant daughter gets raked thru the coals over the media-standin’ firm for her Truth. Knowing that wounded women will not yet understand until they hit rock bottom-the real rock. They can do what they want with her, but she’s on the Solid Rock she stands while all other ground is sinkin’ sand (and stinkin’ too). It’s great crossing over to the River Jordan girl. You should try it-it feels good to get rid of all that anger and animosity and drink the clear water. You can still go after the bad boys (and girls)-but it’ll be totally clean. From, Ol’Mary-Now taking care of the dying women in America who have strokes and ALZ and playing Jazz keyboards for them & Sweet Jesus.
