Whoopi Goldberg Was Born in the Spotlight

Whoopi Goldberg
Emerging from my mother. At my birth, I looked up, saw the lights in the operating room and said, "This is for me."

She has always been my favorite, She get’s it done without the glam! Some of my favorite movies by her were Jumping Jack Flash and Clara’s Heart, love them all but even the maybe lesser known she put some deep messages into them.

Specifically, was it the brilliance, the buzz or the promise of interrupted sleep that attracted you? I was in the hospital for nine months after being born. Back then, I’m pretty sure I wanted those darn lights off. But then, maybe that’s why I spend all day and night searching for enlightenment.

Maybe my mother was right all these years. I was a breech baby born in the 1950’s. She liked to say I was born a$$ backwards, act a$$ backwards and will leave this earth a$$ backwards. I can not back out of a parking space at the grocery store without breaking into a cold sweat of fear. Thank goodness I boycott WAL MART or I would of goner years ago.

Wow your me - did you divorce, quit smoking and go through menopause at the same time too?

No divorce. My husband says I bring joy to his heart and he has too much fun trying to second guess what I will do next. Down to two cigarettes a day. Since I don’t drink, drug or fool around (besides husband) or take hormones for menopause I need to know I have ” my time” twice a day. Bad thinking on my part but my mother is right a$$ backward. So if you see a 4’11” woman running backwards in the parking lot waving to you, it is just me going to my car. See you at the grocery store!

I was born in big Mama’s (my great Aunties) bedroom. My older sister and my second to the oldest brother decided I must be hungry after being stuck inside my mother for nine months without any real food. My mother awoke to their giggles as I sucked down applesauce and wet saltine crackers they were feeding me.
