Whoopi Goldberg
Let’s just say if I were in the musical "West Side Story" I couldn’t sing "I Feel Pretty."

Funny that this posted only seconds after I sent this to my Mom tonight: It’s as if we didn’t pass a freaking bail-out at all. That $700B has done NOTHING to fix the crisis thus far. I know it takes time for these things to work, but my GOD! The entire world financial markets have been hitting rock bottom all week. European, Japanese, and Hong Kong markets all tanked! It sure shows no faith in America and our bail-out. After all, we are the “who” that got all of them into this mess. Surely, we’re making enemies now, no? Man, I just don’t understand financial markets at all. $700B means nothing to fix anything. And all of that crap they passed in the bill for “other things”…what the hell is that? I’m losing any hope in capitalism. It’s just not the way to go. But ladies, what is?

Nothing is guaranteed…not even the bailout.

Chris, did you read the editorial section of the ‘Grand Rapids Press’ the other day, in which Congressman Vern Ehlers, R-Michigan, said it shouldn’t be called a bailout, because it was so urgently needed to keep companies from failng? He’s right about that, but I call it a bailout when AIG executives have just used $75,000 of that money on saunas. Supposedly, the AIG clowns racked up a nearly half-billion-dollar bill on a weekend vacation! They need to be thrown in prison.

Yesterday on NPR, they said that AIG has already burned through however many billions of dollars they received before the spa. Now they are getting more!

There might not be any deficits or problems, if there were no corruption. Too many pockets being lined at taxpayer expense. Gluvna for gov’na!

I personally think Mr. Ehlers is right! It is a bailout - but that bailout has begun to affect us here in Holland as many of the those in the manufacturing sector have already cut hours for their blue collar workers down to 32 - 36 hours a week - and it may be going lower. It really is rotten when the moneyed people still get theirs and we here at the bottom get stuck with the mess!

Chris, Holland? How cool is that? I’ve always wanted to go to Holland; however, it sounds as though no where is safe.

Serena, hope all is dandy. Chris lives in Holland, Michigan, along the Lake Michigan shoreline, 35 miles west of Grand Rapids. But Holland, Michigan, is known for the Tulip Time Festival, a huge national event every spring. It’s a Dutch festival, with a parade, wooden shoes, the whole nine yards - and beautiful tulips adorning thousands of yards. I’m Scottish, but can appreciate Holland.

James, Thanks for straightening me out. I’m an idiot. That’s what I get for butting in. Sorry

James, WTF!? Are you serious!? How can they get away with that? Why doesn’t someone do something! What can we do? What future do any of us have?

More regulation and oversight are two of the key answers, obviously.
