Witness To History

By Faye Perkins

wOw friend Faye Perkins was at the inauguration today and sent us the following note - and this incredible picture!

"Here’s a picture from where we stood in the north viewing area. We could see about half of the jumbo screen but it was enough to see who was speaking. The sound system was great, so we didn’t miss a word of the ceremony.

My 76 year old neighbor Paul stood beside me with tears in his eyes as Obama took the oath. Paul was at MLK’s "I have a dream" speech in ‘63 and has been a civil rights proponent his whole life. For Paul and many others in the crowd, Obama’s inauguration is the realization of MLK’s speech and a life of public service."

Amazing. Over a million people, braving the cold, to share in the promise and the hope.

Thank you for sharing this image! It is breathtaking! It is wonderful that such an important moment in history is documented by all of these wonderful images. I too had tears in my eyes. It was a deeply moving speech. I can only imagine what it was like to see it and be there amongst others in Washington.

%$#@* !@&*^!!
CNN did such a great job of covering the event…they should win an Emmy at least. They invited attendees to send in all their personal photos and they’ve posted them on the CNN website.

There is an amazing photo online that one can zoom in to see individual people, yet the photo has thousands of people in it, from the inauguration during the President’s speech: http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=15374&window_height=416&window… I am not sure how he did it, but I am going to try to find out. Ah! He explains it in his blog: http://www.davidbergman.net/blog/
