Here’s another reason why you should make sure you get your daily dose of calcium: It may lower your risk of getting cancer.

This new study from the National Institutes of Health and AARP, published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, says that both women and men can lessen their chances of suffering from colorectal cancer and other digestive system cancers by giving themselves regular calcium boosts by increasing dairy intake, increasing intake of other high-calcium foods or with supplements.

Just another reason to grab that yogurt, rather than the potato chips!

Oh, good!  I just love it when my instincts are confirmed by solid scientific data!

Debra - make sure it’s ice cold and go for the skim. Have a cookie with it to make it a treat!

Thanks.  I’ll take it cold but I don’t need the sugar - skip the cookie.

This is so frustrating to read, because other studies are speaking to the fact drinking milk CAUSES cancer. Specifically breast cancer and how IGF-I found in cows milk accelerates the production of cancer cells in the human body. Who to believe….who to believe? It’s so frustrating, sometimes I feel like not eating and drinking anything, simply surviving on air, but even that has carcinogenics! :-)

Belinda, except for the growth hormones (IGF-I) that are given to cows (among other things), I cannot find any credible source, like a university study for instance, that says milk causes cancer. If you want to avoid the added growth hormones, certified organic milk might be the answer — yes? no?

Rocky Rocky, What is organic! The soild is already poisoned with all kinds of chemicals! The air we breath is poisoned as well as the water. Don’t be fooled by the term organic.

As long as they keep injecting the livestock with antibiotics and hormones we are not safe. Our foods in this day and age are all poisoned. The milk companies will pay for researche to reveal anything to sell their product. There is no doubt that milk is a good source of calcium; however, there are a lot of the same things that are being said about other products; that it will help your body. I truly share your frustrations!!!!!!!!!

No this not good news!Just more fraud, from the milk and Pharmaceutical industries! As a matter of fact, a majority of women cancer is created by consuming too much dairies products! If you want milk, a safer alternative is soy milk, goat milk…etc.. Cow milk creates mucus and too much calcium can eventually work against the body!
