This is an exciting moment for our country. A woman got within an inch of gaining the Democratic nomination, and an African American man looks like he’s the one. Who would have thought either could have happened even ten years ago???

I can’t believe most of you. You are racist and sexist. “I can’t believe we have a woman or a black man close to being in the WH.” Really? Should it matter if you are a male or female? Black, white, or any shade in between? How about we start voting on issues and not on someone’s sex or skin color. If that starts happening, we’ll have equality.

Jose - not only will you continue to see the singular focus on HRC and what she wants, or doesn’t — what she will do, or not — and a clear bias in favor of her BECAUSE she is a woman as she also leverages, herself — you will notice a clear absence of ANY questions/content about Barack Obama other than as a default to Hillary Clinton (or Bill Clinton, of course). Barack Obama has never been written about — from the editorial point of view/questions — other than through a prism of being in HRC’s way. There is no depth and certainly no validation that someone has BEAT THE CLINTON MACHINE, out-raised the fat-cats, enrolled millions of new and your voters, etc. NADA! If you look at this site, you wouldn’t even KNOW he had won! Ha! I write this as the daughter of two Civil Rights lawyers — NAACP and Urban League. It is truly amazing to see Barack Obama marginalized completely on this historic night for ALL of America. Instead, what we get is an entire night of HRC for VP — depriving Barack Obama of even his right to a) enjoy this night w/his supporters in peace — and, b) STILL attempting to make HRC (and Bill, of course) winners, somehow — and marginalizing the Obamas and their young supporters, completely. Fascinating and something I will be watching and blogging about in the months to come. From a historical perspective — this site’s refusal to even ask a question about Barack Obama so there is some balance for those who supported the WINNER — is beyond fascinating. Take a gander at the entire archive. Even HRC (and Bill, of course) supporters should not find this acceptable — but, curiously, they don’t find this strange at all.

Jose, ADDENDUM — Ironically, this refusal to accept REALITY and attempts to marginalize of minimize this HUGE feat is WHY HRC (and Bill, of course) will not be offered the VP slot. The woman and her supporters have marginalized HER in the VP sweepstakes by their own conduct — though, as always, they will never take responsibility for that fact. Instead, we get DEMANDS, DEMANDS and more DEMANDS. Turn the page, America. Americans want CHANGE, not threats, tirades and more selfish/spoiled Presidents/Vice Presidents.

Renata, apparently daughters of two civil rights lawyers have a grip on reality as tenuous as the ideological purity of the Fox News network. The Democratic presidential candidates who failed to team up with their main rivals (as FDR, JFK and Bill Clinton did) have gone down in flames (most recently, Mondale and Dukakis.) Are you interested in preventing the Republicans from holding onto the White House for another term, or advancing a message and agenda that Rev. Jeremiah Wright and his ilk are undoubtedly in total agreement with? By the way, Fox News now reflects an ideological position much closer to the Wall Street Journal’s than to Rush Limbaugh’s. Not surprising, since both are owned by Rupert Murdoch, who is now interested in using his billions to burnish his image. In recent weeks, Fox has aired some very good exposes of the corruption of high placed Republicans such Dennis Hastert, Ted Stevens, and others. Likewise, it has fair to Scott McClellan’s now book, for the most part.

My grip on reality remains secure. As a New Yorker, I began supporting Barack Obama 17 months ago. As with my parents, who supported Martin Luther King when he was openly mocked and ultimately, murdered — I know progress when I see it. I also know the opposite.

My grip on reality remains secure as well. As a New Yorker, I fully support the candidate that will adequately address the economic, social, international and all of the issues that challenge these times as well as each individuals right and capacity to choose who they believe is best suited for that. As with my parents, I believed strongly in the values, philosophies and accomplishments of Martin Luther King and grieve the death of an amazing man-he brought progress and we can see it. I also know the opposite. Unity is a creative force. Divisiveness a catabolic force. Isn’t there something you’re eager to create, Renata?

Wild Heather I watched the O’Reilly/Hillary Clinton interview on Fox and I thought he was fair and she came out looking pretty good. She handled herself well, as did he, and then won several primaries. Everyone bashes Fox news, but it is the other half of the news. It is always an education. My husbands surfs it, and will stick on a story, but if you don’t keep your eye on them, you will miss some things others don’t cover. It is just the way it is. Greta Van S was trying to get to some underlying reasons why print and tv news was giving Obama such a pass, and I was appalled at the lack of answers they gave her. She kind of threw her arms up and said “well I’m not going to get any answers” from you. It was some arrogant guy that just acted superior - ridiculous. I like CSpan, but get news from internet and follow a lot of links and end up all over the www. In this day and age you can’t put the blinders on and not keep your eyes open. We still have 6 months until November. I don’t want to get there because then I am a year older.

No worries. I don’t take things personally - and simply make my case and support it. This is a wonderful night for African-Americans and no amount of attempts to marginalization of this special night for America and the world of diversity — worldwide — will be internalized by me. I don’t expect anything more from HRC or her supporters — which is WHY she will not be offered the VP slot (w/Bill, of course). Sadly, their inability to accept defeat graciously — for a month and tonight — has cost her/them what she/they now want. A more mature candidate would have known there would be consequences to the scorched-earth, post-February Campaign. The Clintons haven’t had to deal with losing very often. African-Americans are on intimate terms with it. We know DAY ONE we are not entitled to anything - and must EARN everything we get. Barack and Michelle Obama have outmaneuvered the Clintons BECAUSE of this fact. That’s is Barack’s STRENGTH. It will be interesting to see a Candidate and President who feels he has to EARN our trust, respect each and every day — instead of the reverse, which is what the Bush/Clinton dynasties have given us. It will also be nice to field a Candidate for Junior Senator from New York who puts our SAFETY and SECURITY first — instead of their ambition to relocate (again) back to DC — leveraging our SAFETY and SECURITY to get there. I hear Mayor Mike Bloomberg may be on deck. That would be very good news — for us. Our future should not be jeopardized for some kind of feminist dream. Now — on to John McCain/George W. Bush. More of the “entitled” need to be dispatched — and RETIRED.
