Happy Birthday to wOw! Plus a New Contributor and a New Design

Cynthia McFadden
Harry Benson

Dear Friends:

Today wowOwow turns three months old!

Like all newborns, each and every day we learn something new, try something different and receive new insights, encouragement and feedback.

We notice that the wowOwow community tells it like it is and we love that. The wOw woman is never afraid to speak her mind.

We have a few new things to share.

First, we have a new contributor in Cynthia McFadden, co-anchor of ABC News’s "Nightline" and "Primetime." Talk about a wOw woman: she is a recipient of the George Foster Peabody Award, the duPont Award, the Foreign Press Club Award and is an Emmy recipient. A graduate of Columbia Law School, she has already started reporting for wowOwow and will cover everything from the personal (she never stops talking about her ten-year-old son) to insights (she’s usually on the scene) into the breaking news of the day.

Visit Cynthia’s homepage here, read her interview with Lesley Stahl by clicking here and help us welcome her to the community.

Second, this week we’re launching a greatly expanded site, with a redesigned homepage that allows you to find more of our stories and see more of our pictures. We’ve taken great care to make it easy to navigate. Let us know what you think.

And finally, we’re starting free weekly newsletters for members of the wowOwow community. It will give us a chance to tell you what’s going on, what’s coming up and allow you to hear from the wOw contributors directly.

As always, my thanks for becoming a part of the wowOwow family. Happy Birthday to us all.

It’s a super layout: much better than the previous one! Congrats!

Joni, congratulations on the new design, and the new era of wOw! I would also like to apologize for my behavior toward certain women on the website during the past week, and to all of you for becoming a part of the destructive negativity we have all been saddened by. Please read my further comments on my blog: http://www.mugsypeabody.blogspot.com/ I’ll see If I can’t try to be part of the solution, rather than part of the problem in future. Mazel tov.

Mugsy––just read your blog. It’s good, it’s comprehensive, it’s right on the money. I think when one feels very strongly about something it’s difficult to hold back the reins. You are appreciated on this site by many and many of us wish you well, but please don’t get wussy on us––we like roaring–––to a point.

Mugsy—I’ve enjoyed your comments in the past, and I look forward to reading more. Thanks for choosing to examine the direction the comment section had been going of late and choosing to be a part of the solution. We have a chance to learn a great deal from each other on wowowow. It’s a way for us to contribute to a broader conversation among women and men who want to help form a community of people working toward the common goal of a better nation and a better world. I don’t mean to overstate the importance of what can be shared among those of us who frequent this site, but it seems to be important to start somewhere.

I will add to the chorus of WOW contributors who want to concur with Alice here. Mugsy need not alter her expressions, nor make them terse. We all gain a great deal from the views and opinions expressed in this forum. Because it is so unique by its very design and membership, we need to continue to cherish it and demonstrate this by voiceing our opinions freely. I would agree that as we were very likely taught in the yourger years, it is best to saying what you have to say in a “nice manner.” That need not diminsh its power or import, or veracity. Let’s continue to speak our minds….and what minds they are!!! Yeah, sisters!!

(From Mugsy’s blog) “For example, we had an actively woman-hating man who posted constantly.” Excuse me, Mugsy! Whatsamatter? Women can’t take criticism but have no problem dishing it against men. I’m not a woman hater. I just believe feminism destroyed stable, affordable middle class family life while leaving women more insecure and blame seeking than ever.

Sweetie, if you aren’t a woman, how in the dickens would you know what they are feeling. I sure don’t feel any love and good will coming from your words over the past month that I’ve been reading them…

Your talking about how women feel reminds me of back when my OB would tell me how I would feel when I went into labor, and what contractions felt like. Besides, what makes you think Mugsy was talking about you?

It sounds like the old Carly Simon song––”You think this song is about you, don’t you?..

does anyone else think this is laughable: I’m not a woman hater. I just believe feminism destroyed stable, affordable middle class family life while leaving women more insecure and blame seeking than ever.- seriously, I spit out my salad on my keyboard when I read this - follow my contrails, baby - because women like me leave guys like you in the dust wondering what the hell happened?!

Hey Chips––are you new to this site? Please keep your salad in your mouth cuz the good doctor here is like our Nixon–we just love to kick him around a bit since he comes on periodically to spew his misogynistic piffle. Best to ignore him or like a dog who disobeys shoo him out the door, throw him his bone, then shut him out. Is this unkind of me? You bet.

not too new - I just couldn’t resist posting that I thought his comment was laughable
