Happy Birthday to wOw! Plus a New Contributor and a New Design

Cynthia McFadden
Harry Benson

Dear Friends:

Today wowOwow turns three months old!

Like all newborns, each and every day we learn something new, try something different and receive new insights, encouragement and feedback.

We notice that the wowOwow community tells it like it is and we love that. The wOw woman is never afraid to speak her mind.

We have a few new things to share.

First, we have a new contributor in Cynthia McFadden, co-anchor of ABC News’s "Nightline" and "Primetime." Talk about a wOw woman: she is a recipient of the George Foster Peabody Award, the duPont Award, the Foreign Press Club Award and is an Emmy recipient. A graduate of Columbia Law School, she has already started reporting for wowOwow and will cover everything from the personal (she never stops talking about her ten-year-old son) to insights (she’s usually on the scene) into the breaking news of the day.

Visit Cynthia’s homepage here, read her interview with Lesley Stahl by clicking here and help us welcome her to the community.

Second, this week we’re launching a greatly expanded site, with a redesigned homepage that allows you to find more of our stories and see more of our pictures. We’ve taken great care to make it easy to navigate. Let us know what you think.

And finally, we’re starting free weekly newsletters for members of the wowOwow community. It will give us a chance to tell you what’s going on, what’s coming up and allow you to hear from the wOw contributors directly.

As always, my thanks for becoming a part of the wowOwow family. Happy Birthday to us all.

Oh, crap, I was afraid of that. There ought to be a view menu, however, Froggie, and that might give you some options…

Also, the type shows up italic on a Mac, but it is regular on a PC. Je ne comprend pas.

Dear wOw staff … just saw the new design, thanks! … no time really yet to comment with more careful consideration … But some immediate SOS: … the comment text font is sooo tiny now, it’s very hard to read (particularly on a laptop, and remember ‘women over 40’… !?!) … please, at least use a font with a clearer appearance, please! … it seems even more difficult now to negotiate a long thread as there is no more first / last button … HELP, how can one see what has been added ? .. you seriously mean one has to go next, next, next ..??? … can’t find if someone commented on a post that was on page. 50 or so … can’t find the newest comments … and still no numbering of the posts for easier identification …. this seems messier than before … just don’t have the time it takes to navigate these pages … … some topics seem to have disappeared (and yes, I looked in Archives..) - and I miss the panel with ‘home’ etc. and the easy well-designed identification-symbols … So SORRY, for negative comments first … promise to also comment on the positive, as always!

I agree with most of the other women…….the font is too small. I preferred the old font style. It is easier to read. I’m just reading the difference of the font in your letter to us Joni and the new font………I hope you go back to the old font…… Remember most of us are over 40………some of us way beyond 60. I must tell you that I love this Site……….it makes my day…..every day. It’s the first thing I do when I get up. Get a glass of juice and read the question of the day. Then again before I go to bed check out more articles and comments. Love it!!!!!!!!

I agree with whomever said we need the return of “Last” button insofar as reading through commentary. I just returned from our 1000+ discussion and I cannot tell you how long in took me to get to the final page. A long, long time. Thanks for returning the reply button. I don’t think the website would be near as interesting if the participants could not respond directly to a comment. It makes this site better than so many others.

Here here, Bonnie! I love the reply button, as well, and would feel like something was missing, I would be bereft from responding to a friend’s great comment or expression—-like yours! Thank you everyone for your honesty in giving your opinions of the new site. It is going to take me some time to get used to it, too. I liked the old one(with less in the surroundings) better as well. Live and learn. Who knows, they may switch back, with all these comments, and they are only gauging the feedback/response to the changes???

That is my favorite of the improvements. It is now much easier to see who is replying to whom. And I like it that one can find someone’s prior posts, rather than aimlessly wandering through half a dozen threads to find something.

Okay, now that I’ve been poking around the site………….please ressurect the LAST PAGE and BACK TO THE TOP features. By the time I was able to get to PAGE 32 of Change The World, I wanted a CIGARRETTE and a bourbon (it’s only 7:57 am here)! Josie ….. Liza D, how are you two doing thus far on your joint venture?

For those who haven’t yet gone to Mugsy’s blogpage, I found it to be a “must read”! I chose not to get myself all twisted up in the “Liz Smith on Hillary: ‘A Lot of Obama’s Supporters Would Just Die if He Chose Her’” conversation. I have however, read quite a bit of it. I’m hell out of the gate but have the stamina of an ……….. (you pick the acronym).

Linda, I went to Mugsy’s blogpage and agree it is a ‘must read.’ Thanks Mugsy! Last night I read all 1000+ entries, again, as they keep breeding. It has become a living breathing enity, and don’t know whether I’ll be able to keep it up. I try to remember what page I left off on, but it keeps changing. Linda, maybe we can each read half…LOL!

Joni - The new layout is great, smaller print okay as long as I wear my glasses! Thanks so much for implementing many of the suggestions, I like the reader profiles. I agree, though, GOT to have the first / last page feature and back to top. It just makes navigating so much easier.
