Happy Birthday to wOw! Plus a New Contributor and a New Design

Cynthia McFadden
Harry Benson

Dear Friends:

Today wowOwow turns three months old!

Like all newborns, each and every day we learn something new, try something different and receive new insights, encouragement and feedback.

We notice that the wowOwow community tells it like it is and we love that. The wOw woman is never afraid to speak her mind.

We have a few new things to share.

First, we have a new contributor in Cynthia McFadden, co-anchor of ABC News’s "Nightline" and "Primetime." Talk about a wOw woman: she is a recipient of the George Foster Peabody Award, the duPont Award, the Foreign Press Club Award and is an Emmy recipient. A graduate of Columbia Law School, she has already started reporting for wowOwow and will cover everything from the personal (she never stops talking about her ten-year-old son) to insights (she’s usually on the scene) into the breaking news of the day.

Visit Cynthia’s homepage here, read her interview with Lesley Stahl by clicking here and help us welcome her to the community.

Second, this week we’re launching a greatly expanded site, with a redesigned homepage that allows you to find more of our stories and see more of our pictures. We’ve taken great care to make it easy to navigate. Let us know what you think.

And finally, we’re starting free weekly newsletters for members of the wowOwow community. It will give us a chance to tell you what’s going on, what’s coming up and allow you to hear from the wOw contributors directly.

As always, my thanks for becoming a part of the wowOwow family. Happy Birthday to us all.

I am so glad that I happened to see the Charlie Rose show when Liz Smith et al. were talking about WOW. I look forward every morning to seeing what is going on, and I am so impressed with the caliber of thinking women that I have had the opportunity to read and to know. Of course, there are those that are real jerks(and we know who they are), but, for the most part, this has been a wonderful addition to my daily life. Thank you so much WOW women! It will take a little amount of time to get acquainted with your new layout, but I think it is going to be a great asset.

For you all that mentioned the font size, go up to the top tool bar of your computer, to to view, to text size, and see if you can enlarge it there. It worked for me and makes it much easier. And, I second the motion…bring back the “last” button!

Congratulations this three month old baby has grown so fast and has teeth to prove it. I for one am not an eloquent writer and politics now are not my priority. Keeping up with the budget and being a caregiver is BUT a WOW writer has giving me enormous hope. She put me on to a website other than the VA and there I found out that my husband and I qualify for a VA pension. We did for the last 16 years! I started the ball rolling and in the meantime 5 other people are filing because I am on my internet soap box. Not even our social worker at the Va was aware of the program. So it is thanks to this site and the people who contribute that I may be able to leave my part time job. At 76 , I welcome that and thank you very much to all ,the founders and the followers. Keep this baby growing.

JMK Singer …………….. I am so glad to see that things are moving upward for you and your husband! I remember that thread and your frustration regarding the VA. Your “internet soapbox” is now a wonderful tool for others! Paying it forward, it’s all good! Best wishes, Linda

Dear JMK I hope this site reads what you wrote and now think about these topics for their posts. There are so many issues women face that goes beyond politics and environmental issues (although they are important). Health and childcare come to mind. Caring for an ailing spouse or parent, employment, etc.

Where did the “last comment” option go? With these long threads—that was the only way to get to the most recent…Ack. If doesn’t reappear, I won’t be coming much. It’s a matter of time… Also, something was moving on the home page—crawling around…made me nervous. I know someone worked hard on this…sorry if this sounds neg.

Star, once again you’ve made me wet myself ………were you implying that this site has creepy-crawley worms? ROFLMAO!!!!!!!

Hey Star ………I shared your “get a long little doggie” joke with my mom last night. It was late and she had just fallen asleep. I guess I should call her this morning to she if she was counting “sheep” or daushhounds” to fall back to sleep. hee, hee!

I saw some text in the background too—I think it is a temporary glitch. Take care.

Isn’t it a pisser? Just out of Tampax and back into pads! Who knew? Well, I guess that’s just the ‘hidden cost’ of having a sense of humor, Linda.

What happened to the posts from yesterday––––the one on smoking and another one –can’t recall what it was but I hadn’t finished reading those.

Phyllis- It showed up in health. I’m happy for wow and the others that have taken so quickly to the new site. I find it cluttered and hard to navigate. I have told myself to hang in there because I have grown to love some of ya’ll. I miss the feature that took me to the last page. The smoking question doesn’t show number of posts so I can’t tell if there is anything new unless I scroll through. I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer so maybe I should just hush and sleak away for now. I’ll come back when I have the energy to be frustrated in trying to locate the topics I love. At least I found Peggy’s area. Have a happy Day #1 wowowow!
