Tell Us: Who Are the Women Who Are Changing the World? Who Are the Ones Who Already Have?

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

Put your thinking caps on, please.

In October wowOwow.com will publish our 2008 list of The 5 Women Who Are Changing the World. We want your input! Who are they? Also, tell us who you think the women from history are who have made the biggest difference (or differences) in our world — who already have changed the world — for our list of the 15 women from history who most changed the world.

Women putting cracks in the glass ceiling, giving a voice to those with none, tearing down gender divides, kicking stereotypes and limitations to the curb … Tell us who they are (or were) and why by sending your ideas to submit@wowowow.com.

And stay tuned as later this month we’ll publish our list of The 5 Women Who Are Changing the World.

Hatshepsut Sappho Mary Magdalene Joan of Arc Millicent Fawcett Elizabeth I of England Amelia Earhart Anne Frank Mother Theresa Princess Diana Rosa Parks Hillary Clinton Gloria Steinem Joan Baez Oprah Winfrey Madonna Good luck narrowing it to five! There are many many many influential women throughout history. Maybe you could go top five per century. That would make things easier. Go Girl Power!!

There are so many great women changing the world, two that stick out for me are Oprah Winfrey and Maya Angelou, I love Maya; so gentle, so incredibly insightful, so intelligent, so peaceful, so deeeeeeeeep. I also love Diane Sawyer and Robin Williams, Robin has certainly taught us a lot this past year during her crisis. Has anyone noticed that after all she has been through, she is incredibly beautiful? Now that is one women that has taught me a lot. And certainly “All the women on this web.”

Sometimes we just think too globally. While many inspiring women have been listed here, I want to put a hand up for women like myself! I became a police officer in 1975. It was an ugly scene for women. Discrimination was behind every door. Both from fellow officers as well as the public. I, along with a handful of other women, worked for many, many years to try to break down those barriers. We DID it!Before I retired I was amazed to see women joining the force with an attitude of entitlement. I guess I was proud it had gotten that far, but somewhat disturbed that they had no clue what it took for them to be able to have that feeling. I spent twenty-eight years on the force and worked my way up from patrol, to detective and finally sergeant. Some of my women friends went on to become chiefs of police. Women are a mainstay now and I feel a great part of that legacy. I don’t regret a minute of time I spent on the job and am proud to see that the women in law enforcement today are coming in with greater education and are rising to the highest ranks in the field.

Good for you Cathy H. You are right, it is the effort of the many unheralded that has accomplished the most. Those young women with the attitude of entitlement are the one who worry me on so many fronts, it is still to soon to believe that everything women like you have worked for is here without any effort on the new-comers part.
