I usually watch PBS. I’m glad I didn’t then. I kept switching back between NBC and ABC, and I would agree with you about ABC’s coverage being the most interesting. It also seemed substantially longer than NBC’s.

Kind of sad that the President of France can drive up Avenue des Champs- Élysées standing in an open car….and to see the incredible security today for Obama. It is all beautiful and impressive and like a film…but the Obama’s are really locked into a gilded cage now.

What are you talking about? The Obamas just marched up the middle of the road right out in the open. Totally freaked me out. I’d prefer that the security surrounded them with riot shields and protected them from every angle. (I have to stop watching this coverage.) Btw, the Dow just fell 330 points. Those wimps!

My Alias, Yes I saw that walk after my post….and was really nice. But still, makes me sad that the French President just goes about without much security…although he had a weak attempt on his life too a few months back that may have changed it. Was sweet to see the Obamas and Bidens walking up Penn Ave! “(I have to stop watching this coverage.)” Actually…..CNN has been amazing.

My nephew’s school is there in DC today and very excited to be present for this historic occasion. He told me he understands the significance of being part of such an incredible, truly awe-inspiring day. Living through the history that brought this about, however, is quite a different story. Obviously, my nephew wasn’t born yet during the Civil Rights struggle. I am 50 years old, and there are so many events that led to this day that I don’t thoroughly comprehend, but I can intellectually understand, while I cheer for our first African-American President. Someday, people will see Obama as the thoroughly capable man he is, instead of commenting on his skin color. Being able to put that totally behind us may be the job of another generation.

Kermie, I have to say when they say “First Black President” I do think, “Oh, yeah, he’s 1/2 black”…I don’t think most urban citizens even think of his genetics…they are thrilled that he is brilliant and with his similiar values.

PS: Back in Texas, GWB just said ‘Today is a good day for America. A Good Man just became President.” I believe he really thinks that. Not that his affirmation is required, but it is appreciated, and I believe it is genuine.

I have to wonder how different Bush’s presidency would have been if he had not chosen Cheney to be his VP.

Did you hear the crowd when they got out of the car to walk and wave! Omg, I could feel the electricity of the crowd through my tv… What a glorious, wonderous , stupendous day! I am so happy that I and my children are alive to see this day happen. Even my 17 year old son, was moved to tears.

Been on the local paper’s live chat and glued to C-Span (no talking heads). It is wonderful and the coverage we are able to witness due to modern tech is so much fun. The walk was great.

Hello All ! Happy New Presidency to US All ! As planned we have been celebrating this day for the last week and yet we have a few more hours to go.Our little Inaugural party of 2 was a smashing success. Colombian coffee, french toast and Florida orange juice for breakfast, barbecue sandwiches for lunch and Mexican plates for supper! I didn’t cook today, did brew coffee though! My daughter didn’t manage to stay awake for all of this, we were up late and then again early she was exhausted about 5 hrs in and fell asleep about half an hour ago. I now watch the events unfold alone, at least I don’t have to Google more answer for her for a minute and can just relax and enjoy the moment! Kinda lonely but wouldn’t change a thing for now! Here we go! CHANGE !
