The wowOwow Reader Forum on Governor Palin

The comments haven’t stopped here at wowOwow since the stunning news on Friday that John McCain, Maverick, had selected Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska, a novice on the national stage, to join him on the Republican ticket.  Many of our wowOwow contributors have weighed in on their thoughts, as have many readers.  Now, as new news emerges about the Governor, speculation continues at a fevered pitch.  We welcome your insights both positive and negative and neutral on this, the second day of the Republican convention

thank you, dana. i try to minimize the gratuitous insults, but sometimes they just beg to be used, as with calling bush “shrub.” as you say, the issue addressed here is character and judgment. i also find her dedication to fighting “god’s war” unnerving. but if she ever gets around to issues, i’ll oppose her on the ones where we disagree. it hurts me to have to thusly attack a woman, but i think that, like hillary, she can probably take the heat. she may not survive discovery of the facts, though.

I hope she spouts some of that overzealous evangelical fire and brimstone hyperbole in the debate with Biden. I don’t know if Joe will have to recover from shock or laughter to rebutt, but either way it’ll be interesting to watch him make her look the fool she is when he does. I’m really only being facetious though because they will have her so prepped and propped that all we’re really going to find out about her in it is how good an actress she is.

The Republicans beg us not to pay a speck of attention to what they DO; that is considered unfair and UnAmerican! Please, they exhort us, just listen to what we SAY! We are all for women! Don’t you get that? The candidates for our highest offices from the GOP give us ghastly examples of behavior we can rely on to dignify our nation in the eyes of this world and keep their most sacred promises. The candidates for our highest offices from the Democratic party give us beautiful examples of behavior in both their private and their public lives.

mccain is kidding, right??? (not)…he sure didnt think this through…what was he ‘thinking’ anyway?? and on, and on, and on..this woman makes women and mothers look REEEALY bad..if YOUR daughter had a baby, would you cover it up by saying it was yours??(it has happened, but that DONT make it right, or better, or….)she is shameful/shameless…just go away..

Cher Rose…Is that a fact yet? That she is passing the baby off as hers but its really her daughters? I mean has that been proven? If not then please stop saying it unless you have proof. How many 17 year olds do you see having a down symdrome baby, not many! How many 40 + women have them, quite a few…Its more plausable for Palin to have the baby then her daughter. If you can only tear into her being a Mother, as a Mother, that hurts my feelings. Leave her Motherhood out & lets go after her Political career.

Hi, everybody, I’ve been off the site for a bit because I got super busy at work but I have been dying to catch up to see what everyone is saying here about good old Sarah et.al and I just came across something I just had to share here, let’s give a big shout out to our very own Peggy Noonan for speaking the truth, although, oops, not necessarily aware of the fact that she was speaking the truth to the masses… those damned microphones… :) http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/

btw if you’ve noticed Gov. Palin’s absence and wondering where she’s been, keep wondering. If you’ve been raised an evangelical or an AG you know what she’s been up to. It’s going to be exciting to see if so.

Typo: Alaska… but I’m sure everyone knew what I meant. I’ve just never had to type the word “Alaska” before this week.

Sarah Palin is first woman of the Republican party to receive the nomination of vice president. Truly a noteworthy event. In her acceptance speech, with the eyes of the world watching, Palin had the opportunity to offer words of inspiration and hope to women and young girls throughout the country and around the world. Unfortunately, Palin was content with offering partisan attacks. Instead of highlighting skills of leadership and providing a vision in pointing the way into the 21st century, Palin was content with the politics of the past. How sad.

I am just tired this morning, tired of non answers by politicians who are asked questions, tired of nastiness, yes even Gov Palin. I am tired of the press being blamed for all the attention on her pregnant daughter (and boyfriend) when she and her husband took on this role when they knew what would happen to Bristol’s privacy and then brought the young man to Minnesota for further scrutiny. I am tired of discussions about the war being a war of God’s. I am sure my nephew on his third tour wished there were a more peaceful God. I am weary of Gov Palins’ words last night demeaning Obama’s work as a community organizer in Chicago, some racial undertones? I am JUST weary! And to think I used to be a Republican.

Here’s a link to an inteview with the Mayor of Ketchicam, in his own words, about how Palin is LYING about saying “thanks, but no thanks” on the Bridge to Nowhere: http://airamerica.com/maddow/blog/2008/sep/01/mayor-bob-weinstein-ketchi…

I think Palin is a scary woman. Scary because she so skillfully feeds the fear in this country. She actually believes that comparing oneself to a pit bull is a good thing in a leader. Her speech was sarcastic and disrespectful of Obama, and while at the DNC McCain’s stand on issues were questioned, no one was disrespectful. She is scary because she pushes all the right buttons and she has now become a “STAR” of the republicans, McCain has made a brilliant choice. Great! If I hear the word maverick one more time I will scream. Just what we need at the helm, a pair of angry hot heads, who prefer action over diplomacy.
