Eka, I just can not handle the idea of listening to her voice for any longer than it takes for this election to be over. IT effects me like scratching on a blackboard. I told my Dad that and he laughed because my Mom had just told him the same thing.

Why aren’t I surprised?

unfortunately olberman is totally sexist - he’s become the new grotesque opinionator

I don’t like all the childish opinion wanks that are on TV today, like Bill O’Reilly, et al. Although I’m Democratic, Olbermann goes olber-board…slamming even Hillary.

Me to Belinda - I find perception fascinating. Have a psych degree LOL. do you remember the “filters” in terms of communication. The discussion about how we filter information internally and everyone’s internal filters are different? I have family members that cannot even “hear” obama because of his color and his name. it’s that simple. there is nothing he can say nothing he can do that they would hear as it all filters through their racism. I made every attempt at the beginning of the campaign to educate myself in a way that negated my filters. I often see elections through the narrow filters of the abortion issue, gay marriage that type of thing. this time i wanted to not be a single issue voter. so i read read read. I thought the VP debate was a fabulous example of perception and filters. My husband and I were watching it actually feeling sorry for Palin we thought she was so horrible. then the debate is over and Peggy Noonan is calling her a “star” and people are talking about how she did so well!

Remember, Kelly, how low the standards were set for Palin: no drooling, running off the stage, vomitting. Plus, I think Peggy Noonan was saying that Palin is the star of the republican party, a somewhat dubious honor at this point. Peace and grace

Kelly, How sad it is that you can loose a debate by all standards, but because she didn’t Couric it, she is a star! Just plain sad!

Seriously…….. after what happened today in the market, I am looking forward to a serious discussion on what can be done to save this economy, I want honesty on how hard the next few years are going to be and what will be asked of all of us to get us out of this mess. I don’t want to hear about William Ayers or Keating. I want intelligence, capability, calmness…. no crap ! I want to be talked to like an adult, I’m a big girl, I can take it ! And if someone in the Town Hall audience asks a “values” question I will throw my shoe at the TV !

EKA, if I may be so bold as to interject. I posted MHO about what I think everyone should start thinking about doing on the thread about the 5 things we don’t know about the bailout; I think that’s what it’s titled. If you are curious, go ahead and have a peek. But please. Don’t get mad at me it you don’t like what you read. Its just one opinion. I would suggest spending some time surfing. Get educated on topics that you wouldn’t normally go to. Charlie Rose has some fabulous guests like Warren Buffet, and other economic experts. See what the experts are saying. Learn to read between the lines. Learn to figure out what they are NOT saying. Also, go find what they are saying in London / Germany / Canada etc about the economy. They have little to lose being in another country so they tend to be more blunt about what is going on. With all due respect you will not get the straight goods from any one person because the repercussions of being either totally right or totally wrong are too big here. All I can say is that this is a huge problem for anyone who owes any money with a tentative job. This is not about the economy anymore, it is about the individual. Stop indulging yourselves. Stop being in debt. Demand proper labelling on everything including food/clothing etc. Look at labels, and stop buying things made in countries you don’t appreciate or respect. It needs to start at the bottom. If you don’t buy it, they will stop importing it. En masse you really do have the upper hand you know. Oh. And one more thing. The Values questions are a mask and a distraction. Better wear big fuzzy slippers, not shoes, or you’ll miss the ending, for sure. The distractions in future are going to get even bigger. Just watch. Its gonna be an interesting 30 days. Hey that reminds me. Has anyone noticed that CNN hasn’t come up with a catchy name or theme song yet for this financial crisis like they did for “Desert Storm” or the “War on Terror”? Peace!

Amelie, Don’t mind the boldness at all….but I know what’s going on… and that’s the problem. And todays market slide should have made it clear to everyone that it is not just an American problem, like it or not, we live in a global economy. What we do affects the world, for good and bad. Whomever takes that oath of office in January is going to face a situation unlike anyone since FDR. It will not be fun for any of us, especially him. What I am looking for in the debate is some serious talk, not political pandering. But I am also looking for the temperament to carry us through to some stability, to tell the American people the hard things they need to hear, in a way that they can understand and get behind. An effective president can do that. And here I need to disagree with you, it is not just the individual at this point, saying we should “stop being in debt” is a little late, people already ARE in debt and many more will be in even deeper when they loose their jobs and insurance, if they even have it. This is the time for BIG ideas. I’m in favor of a new WPA to put people to work on infrastructure, green energy jobs, science, for example. Me not shopping at Wallmart ( which I don’t do anyway ! ) is not enough. You can only get the collective “WE” to do the things you suggest by having leaders LEAD. It worked during the Depression and WWII, we need that kind of leadership now. I saw Warren Buffet, In fact I’ve watched Charlie Rose every night since he started in 1993. I also think watching the BBC is a good source of world news Good suggestion about the Fuzzy slippers !

Yes. You are right! I neglected the actual point here. What do we all do now that we are in this pickle? I am so far down the Path of Acceptance of Ill-fate that it never occurred to me that there could be a “bailout” of some sort at the “individual” end of the spectrum. I wish I had your optimism. “What I am looking for in the debate is some serious talk, not political pandering. But I am also looking for the temperament to carry us through to some stability, to tell the American people the hard things they need to hear, in a way that they can understand and get behind.” Yes, please. I just keep hearing GWB during one crisis in which he kept saying…”Go shopping!” Sigh.

Step away from the BLOG!
We need WPA levels of committment to create jobs/rebuild infrastructure and should be green so building for the future. There is much we could do to generate jobs…..solar arrays in desert for instance that could power entire US. Won’t have any of that with Dumb and Dumber in the WH. Just more of the same.
