wowOwow Welcomes All Women, 'Good Day New York'-ers! (Video)

Our fabulous four founders told all this morning on a guest appearance on Fox’s "Good Day New York." In case you missed it, or watched it, loved it and visited us because we piqued your interest, Joni Evans, Liz Smith, Lesley Stahl and Mary Wells spoke about their smart website, wowOwow.com.
The women explained that wowOwow, a website run by an all-star roster of female movers and shakers, including Whoopi Goldberg, Marlo Thomas and Lily Tomlin, appeals to all women.
"From Candice Bergen live blogging at the Oscars to brilliant women writers" offering words of wisdom, Lesley was full of compliments when speaking about the variety of topics offered on wowOwow. Lesley — who looked stunning in red lipstick — also revealed that she’s working on regular wOw interviews … You’ll have to visit wowOwow.com again to see who’s the next big name to be drilled by the veteran "60 Minutes" reporter.
wOw’s CEO Joni Evans was her clever self — even in the wee hours of the morning — as she explained how wOw began and her upcoming plans to revitalize the bleeding book publishing world.
Mary, the Grand Dame of Advertising, explained wOw’s unique edge in the competition.
And — even before most of us had our morning lattes — darling Liz wasted no time sharing gossip about the best actress Oscar-winner Kate Winslet.

What can I say, ladies, except to say you all were WOWs … and, as always, your enthusiasm resounded — but then, when hasn’t it? It is lovely to know that we - the writers - too have found a voice, reached out and found our counterparts in the farflung places of our country, and - in some cases - have formed friendships that have opened up our wonderful worlds even farther. Who would have dreamed that - you and we - could have taken this new world of connection and embraced it as we have.
Thanks, gals … and get ready to order the champagne for the first year anniversary. Sure wish we could join you!!! Joan
The good work serves us all. Everyone gets an opportunity to speak, while the wOw staff tries to keep us from mangling one another with our opinions.
Two camps: Left and Right, with Independents swimming in the middle make up the heated discussions. Here’s hoping the four salesladies of wOw were able to stir up some new participants — new ideas are always welcomed.
I hope you are right Belinda…… but I kinda see it another way.
I would expect that any intelligent and informed Republican would not want to stay at this site….. those of the "rabid rIght" are too vocal.
Forward thinking Republicans wont want to be associated with these vocal "ladies" on this site. Look how the 3 Republican leaders that voted to improve America with the stimulus package….. look how those leaders were treated on here….. it was said a few times that those 3 were not "true" Republicans
Oh trust me Roger I hear what you’re saying. A month ago I sent an email blast to all the women I know as a form of advertisement for the wOw site, asking them to consider our site for their networking and blogging needs. I was shocked at the response I received from ladies (and some men) in regard to their take on this site. Many commented on the "Rabid Right Wingers" who you and I know as regulars, and how out of step they are. And some of these comments were coming from my Republican friends! :-)
The same friends who were quick to separate themselves from the Republicans during the presidential campaign after McCain chose Palin. Now they consider themeselves "Conservatives" and are insulted when I label them Republican. :-) It was interesting in the clip to hear that the wOw site gets 1 million hits a month and yet those who choose to blog here are very limited. That should speak to aspects of the posts that turn so many people off. If a million people are viewing your site each month and you can literally name the bloggers….that is not good.
I know I can be a pill sometimes, but it is always in response to others. There are bloggers on this site that initiate and purposely attempt to stir up negative debates which turn people off. I think wOw staff should be even more proactive (I noticed they’ve been doing it lately…kudos) in deleting and possibly blocking these bloggers. The site was initiated for just and honest reasons, but they still have to make a profit from their sponsors to keep it up and running. If they don’t keep an eye on these rabid right wingers who spew nothing but negativity, they are going to see a dramatic decline in visitors and users of the site.
And, in so doing, Belinda, I’m certain they’ll have a keen eye towards the liberals who engage in this dialogue. Open and honest opinions come from both sides of the field and behavior as you have described coming from the conservatives is equally as appalling. When people stoop to low levels their posts are available for all to read. Perhaps you should revisit your comments on Sarah Palin made this morning on the day care thread. You were highly criticized by both liberals and conservatives.
When you write a "halo post" you need to check your own credibility.
This was my post that you are referring to.
“I would have chosen either Michelle’s or Hillary’s because I know my child would be instilled with a strong dose of self confidence and self reliance. Lord only knows what my kid would be taught at a child center run by Palin. Maybe how to do drugs, commit crimes, be promiscuous and end of pregnant? :-) By Belinda . on 02/23/2009 11:22 am”
Michelle and Hillary have raised girls that are strong, intelligent and confident young women. If I had a children, Chelsea is the type of daughter I would want, and Michelle’s girls are showing all the signs of becoming exactly what Chelsea is. This is because they had the right upbringing and guidance from their mothers, which speaks to the type of guidance kids could expect if they were to run a child care center.
Conversely Sarah Palin has children that were convicted of crimes and given the option of serving jail time or enlisting in the military. Her son chose military. Her teens have admitted to drug and alcohol use underage. And her daughter who engaged in sex as a minor ended up pregnant. “Someone” didn’t instruct her on the use of birth control in the event she wanted to engage in sex. Chelsea didn’t end up pregnant as a teen. The Bush girls didn’t end up pregnant as teens. Coincidence? I think not.
So where am I wrong for anything that I stated?………….exactly, I didn’t think so. Your apology is accepted. Move on to someone else now Deber.
Belilnda
I appreciate what you are saying in your last couple of comments. You are expressing and sounding like, what the conservative posters used to complain about during the elections, feeling that the left side of the aisle was giving them hell all the time, and calling them names, calling them stupid, ignorant, and many more very degrading terms. I have been here almost a year so I have seen it all. If they crossed our poster who changes her name and identity all the time, she would barrage them with angry posts calling them skanks and many other low names. She used a few derogatory terms and called someone a dog. All the time, and that was before the 10 commandments so she wasn’t deleted. Others came on and did the same. It was seldom that they took the issue that was being spoken about and questioned the argument in an intelligent way. To either bring light to an idea with clear thinking, or test an idea with logical questions. The conservatives used to mostly play fair, and after Palin got dubbed with so many unkind epithets, they got tired of it and now that there are a few more, they hang together in arguments, just like the liberals did with them. They used to be attacked from all sides by the liberals, now they are using the same tactics. I don’t agree with it, but we have had some pretty solid visitors who really knew how to fight. Many tried to get along, but could not cross the ideological divide. It is hard. We are who we are.
I don’t like the angry posts. To me they are just a waste of time, but I learned it takes two to tango, and it takes reactive posts to keep reactionary posts going. I don’t agree with many of the things said, and I am disappointed in it. The ideas from the far reaches of each political persuasion will never meet. They will never meet. They have become too diametrically opposed.
You said you invited some of your conservative friends, well some of the conservatives, early on, invited some of their friends, and the liberals were very negative so the new conservatives would come on every so often and say, I was going to try this, but it is too negative.
It seems to me we are representative of the sentiments in the nation. When something swings too far to the right and big mistakes are made, the country then swings far to the left and then vice versa. The pendulum used to have a very wide swing, that took longer to manifest it’s reactions, but now, with all the talking heads and the 24 hour news cycle, and the internet, the reaction is quicker and we have less time to adjust and recoup.
I grew up in a home that had many foster children from very diverse situations, races and ethnic groups. Kids are great at sarcasm and put down and the only way we could all get along was to have certain rules, and my mom called us on the carpet when we didn’t.
In that household one of the most important lessons was to not make negative personal comments about anyone or what they believed in. Those included anything that had to do with ideology, body, mind or spirit. It was amazing, once a new kid got the hang of it, it gave them freedom to be themselves. It also helped to develop self-esteem in both parties.
I haven’t read all the comments the right has been calling the left, but crazy left wingers came up, and Kool aid drinkers, and many other terms that insinuated stupidity. I think being called rabid right wingers and wingnuts, or kool aid drinkers and crazy left wingers, holds the same vicious power. It is a waste of time and the divide is just getting wider.
And I will say to you Frannie what I have said to others who posted to me "specifically" - why are you choosing to single me out and essentially point out a negative you see in my various posts? That is the pertinent question here. I am not being overly sensitive or feeling wounded, I genuinely am not. However if you feel and truly believe my posts are so vexatious compared to the other bloggers on this site, and specifically those from from the right who I usually respond to….than all I can say is you have a right to your opinion but you are wrong.
A clear example of this was the discussion of Chandra Levy’s death. Bloggers weighed in on the topic at hand and offered their opinions on the subject commenting on Condit and the coverage. Deber addresses immigration and singles out Mexico (i.e. Mexicans). Not one blogger called her on it, not one. There isn’t a person that blogs on this site that doesn’t recognize when we discuss immigration that it encompasses a whole hosts of people from every country imaginable, not just Latinos, and yet, no one called her on it. Instead I post a response because I feel the discussion is starting to take a turn off topic into an area it shouldn’t and WHAM! Belinda is calling me racist. Belinda is attacking me for bringing up immigration. Belinda doesn’t understand anything about immigration.
On another thread Steve made a disparaging comment about Michelle Obama. No one said a word. You nor any other blogger commented at all. I responded to his negative post and then WHAM! Now, now Belinda…. suddenly I am being chastised and talked down to because I responded to a negative post. You are doing the same thing with this post.
Your sentiments are to be respected and some of them I agree with. However, under no circumstances will I accept that I am the one on this site to be singled out each and every time someone else post a negative, disparaging or off topic post that I happen to respond to.
I am sure there are many bloggers on this site that would love for me to simply disappear, but I assure you it is not going to happen. There are a lot of things that can be said about me, but pushover is not one of them. I don’t allow people to walk all over me in my day to day life and I certainly won’t allow it from anonymous entities online.
Belinda
I am sorry you felt singled out, I actually meant to say something different, and definitely less, but when I am tired and it is late, I go on.
Firstly, I didn’t think your post was that negative, what I sensed more than anything was that you felt pushed to the point of frustration. Your feelings are right. I wasn’t trying to single you out, I can see how it came off that way, so I am sorry. What was more important to me was that everyone was getting frustrated from both sides and I was trying to put some air in between it.
Belinda, I have made both sides mad at one time or another. I was just trying to give the ideas some perspective. I don’t feel mad at anyone when I post, unless it is a politician or some idiot on Wall Street. If I start having a reaction, I try to wait before I post.
I wasn’t on the Chandra Levy thread, so I didn’t participate. Since I don’t really like much of what Steve says, I don’t read him. I ignore it to death with a steady neglect. I edit that way due to time restrictions, and there are certain people that are hard to read— don’t need anymore frustration in my life. I don’t go on every thread so I don’t know what everyone is saying. You don’t need me to tell you that you have a right to say whatever you want to, and I don’t care, I say go for it. What we want the site to be is what we post on it. I am sorry I left your name at the top of the post because it was really a general, not specific description.
Frannie Em, I know you are addressing, Belinda, but I was reviewing the past year of posts and how many of the problems issue from attacks on character rather than substance. Not singling out Belinda. Seems we Dems attempted to destroy each other over the conflicts choosing between Clinton and Obama, and once the Presidential campaign began, I believe the Dems still were overboard with snarky attacks on Palin when valid, logical arguments to oppose her were clearly before us. Now, the Reps are assuming the role of the minority exacting the dignity of the Dem posters , making attacks personality centered rather than substance oriented. At this particular time in our state of the union, some are choosing what my mother always referred to as "Cutting off your nose to spite your face.’ Failure is not a political prize that will serve anyone in good stead.
All that to support your observations.
Peace and grace
Beth
Thanks, I agree. I have seen how many of the conservatives have turned and done what they hated being done to themselves. My original post to Belinda was meant to tell her I understood her frustration, etc. That post was really two posts. I should have separated it.
You are so right, when it gets into the personality, and not substance, we really go astray. LOL. I think all of us have been there.
"Failure is not a political prize that will serve anyone in good stead." You are so right and well put. If this fails, then the nation has even bigger problems. I don’t want failure, I want the stimulus spending to be "timely, temporary and targeted" so that we can get chugging again. Our business is starting to pick up again, and it is for many of our friends, so I have a little enthusiasm about that.
President Obama did not create this problem, yet the burden of it is on his shoulders. More than the election, this will be the making of him.
Peace and grace lady
Beth,
I appreciate you.
