wOw's Intuitive Peggy Rometo Correctly Predicts Caroline's Drop Out

wOw's Peg Rometo

On January 14th, when Carolyn Kennedy looked like a sure thing as New York’s Governor Patterson’s pick for the Senate Seat, wOw intuitive Peggy Rometo predicted it wouldn’t happen, and that she was looking "to save face by most respectfully declining":

"I’m also picking up a lot of confusion about whether or not she even wants this, because of the public’s opinion. She may be feeling anger because of  the judgment or the public’s opinion, and most likely feels they are off-base. I think she is a much more complicated and savvy woman than she gets credit for. It’s almost like she has two very strong opposing views. On one hand I feel she may have some regret here. Either about the way she broached this bid or doing it at all. She may even be thinking, “Why did I ever throw my hat in the ring?” She has seen her share of family members persecuted in the press. But there’s the whole, “We’re Kennedy’s. Of course we can toughen up” kind of thing. But that doesn’t mean that she wants to be in that energy every single day. So I almost feel like she’s looking for a way to save face by most respectfully declining, and I feel the only way that could be done is by having something that’s equivalent or better or more suited offered to her. It could be through the Obama administration, something like an ambassadorship. Something where she’s not so much in the public eye on a daily basis."

Very well said. Have always had a deep well of affection for Caroline Kennedy, though let me hasten to say I know her not, nor have I ever met ANY Kennedy. It is just a wistful memory of being young and the days of Camelot. I wish her well and all good things, and hold on to a hope of seeing her in public service.

Peggy, Disappointing that she allowed herself to be so easily defeated, but not a surprise. From meeting CK briefly at a smallish event, then observing her for an hour, could not believe she has any will to confront or be confined in a competitive setting. Her reticence could work as a diplomat or Ambassador…yet making such a weak public showing would render it nearly impossible for Obama to appoint her as Ambassador to England or France or even Ireland without be charged with favoritism. What a paradox that a woman of ultimate priviledge couldn’t grasp something relatively easy if she’d had the determination, but Obama, born with every strike against him, is now at an even younger age, president. The meritocracy prevailed…and that’s the positive spin on this. But, ouch.

She was never truly suited the job. It’s good she’s moved on. I don’t particularly think she was suited to the VP selection committee either. She certainly played her part in naming Biden as Obama’s VP. A decision he may be privately regretting, at least in some small measure, due to Mr. and Mrs. Biden’s tendency to publicly gaff. Joe somehow manages to always remove the solemnity from the moment with his swashbuckling style. It is obvious that Obama, who is trying to restore dignity to the presidency again, is not always amused. Yesterday’s repeat swearing-in gaff, yet another example.

Peggy, So do the starts predict who Paterson will select????? Caroline is a good person, and if the field of politics interests her, she will prepare for it. Unfortunately, the way this was handled by will be a blot for time to come. The reports first stated it was rumor when it wasn’t. Then she said she was in, and now out again. A real PR fiasco. She needs to regroup and not give up if this is where she would like to be. She needs to study the issues, attend more speaking engagements, and maybe run for Congress first.

i feel she was wise—-we all often pursue a goal, only later to reconsider—-often too late—-why should she wish politics? to play in quicksand?

Yes, it is quicksand. But if you want to play, you gotta pay (your Nanny taxes).

no using the ‘nanny word’—-my second daughter spent 10 years as a Top Brit Nanny, for the Saudi family that raises the Queen’s horses—-paid her way to Chiropractor. and get this ladies—-not only may the queen make you curtsy, she met her often, once whistling ‘yankee-doodle-dandy’—-as she did so—-really pissed the Queen, yep, a major ‘nasty-woman’ as other quietly chuckled—-AND her majesty, in normal life, just can’t her lipstick straight—-that bad— ps. same daughter ripped a Conan O’Brien show, grabbing his ass, as he walked by—-she’s a stunning beauty—-so the camera kept coming back—-the fool should have proposed—-and yeah, she had a nanny for years—-a ‘Class-Nanny’ beats bad parents—-hence the flawed parents reach-out—-pity we all may not afford the solution—-and why ‘top-nanny’s’ are 6-figure paid, new car, body-guards—-seems the incredibly wealthy, sensing their problems as Parents, Buy a proper parent—-when $$$ is endless—-what would you do? call the Queen? i think she’s booked, and a bad choice—-:)

I think it was more so not being supported on a personal level from a male in her life, more so than outward support of the public. Choosing not to be revealing, or what did not need to be revealed.

Although I know little about Ms. Kennedy except for her childhood, I wonder why she thought she had the background to be a U.S. Senator. Is it simply her exposure to the family? Could anyone help me out here with an outline of her dossier? Thanks.

Peggy was right but it was pretty obvious. Just because you have a famous name with reputations for toughness in business does not make you tough. I think the way the Kennedy children were brought up fostered both her shyness and her brother John’s mild acting out in public. Caroline is apparently very talented at fund raising and public activism. But she does not draw attention to those talents. She might have made an excellent Senator but lacked the desire to put herself out there.

Smiling! And this is why I like seeing Peggy on the front page… Smiling even bigger!

I am glad that she got to withdraw her name rather than fail at a public vetting. I adore Ms. Kennedy, but she has not been tested by fire in a public service position yet, so her skin is not nearly thick enough to withstand the criticism she received for her poor public speaking abilities and other things. I think she should pursue public office and get her feet wet before she goes for such a high office of Senator. No question she can do the job and has the networking and fundraising chops. But unlike Obama, whose career has been about tossing himself into the fire and withstanding all the controversies with a calm, cool demeanor, Ms. Kennedy has been relatively sheltered up till now. Give her some time in a smaller spotlight… she’ll get there.
