wOw's Views on the News: Is It Time for Clinton or Obama to Throw In the Towel?

By staying in the race, are the Democratic candidates inadvertently sabotaging their party’s chances of winning the election? This weekend, Howard Dean called on Clinton or Obama to drop out of the race for the candidacy by June. "Either of these candidates, if it’s time for them to go, they’ll know it and they will go," Dean said, according to the Associated Press. But will they? Should they? And if so, should they wait until the Puerto Rico primary or should the move be made now?

It’s the horrible political system, in my view, Frannie. I’m flattered by your interest in my opinion on the subject. I love that young man from Puhahou. My son is part Hawaiian and graduated from Kamehameha School, the other truly great private school in Honolulu. If I had started having kids at the age barry’s mom did (that’s what he was called in high school) Barak i would have sons and/or daughters his age. I’ve donated to his campaign. I made personal contact with them at the time, and conditioned any further donations to his willingness to pledge to accept the vp position should he not prevail in his quest and should it be offered to him, and to pledge to offer the vp position if the tables were turned. I also donated to Sen clinton at the time and sent similar email messages- asking for a pledge that she would accept the vp position, and also pledge to offer it to obama if she became the runner up. Obama’s campaign acknowledged my question to their credit, but ducked the question. I did not hear from the Clinton folks. I did not hold it against either campaign, but I made no further donations to either, but have strongly supported Hillary and now believe the OBAMA candidacy is doomed (see post on the last page I put there 1/2 hour ago. I’ve made dozens of calls for Hillary and met Chelsey and personally presented her with two lovely lei and gave her Garrison Keillor’s poem collection, Good Poems for Hard Times. (it’s not as depressing as it sounds.) Bill Moyers interviewed the author of a book that sounds wonderful about our undemocratic electoral system. Frank, stick to philosophy; political science is not your strongest subject. It used to be that ALL the delegates were SUPER DELEGATES.

Michael, super delegates were invented when Carter won the nomination and he couldn’t beat Reagan. Little piece of information I learned when I read Legacy of Ashes the history of the CIA. Our peacenik president forbade the CIA from giving arms to dissident groups around the world during his administration. However he did start a publishing organization that published the work of dissidents around the world and supported it being disseminated in appropriate places. According the the CIA it caused more fear behind the iron curtain and all the guns they had distributed. Amazing piece of information, huh?

bev, carter couldn’t bet reagan partly because the kennedy mafia backstabbed him all the way to the convention, and the cia and pentagon engineered the hostage, general boykin botched the rescue attempt, and the federal reserve ran the interest rates up to 21% under carter’s watch — he’s without a doubt the greatest “former president” ever — believe me young lady … I was there

No. What I SAID was, this is what I think and you think what YOU think and we can’t settle this amongst ourselves (and believe me we’ve all worked REALLY hard at it over these past few weeks,) so….let’s finish the game the way it’s played. Actually, it used to be that the conventions were where the candidates were selected. So let’s play it out.

I liked what John Stewart said, ‘This is a Democracy. The people get to vote. Why should it be over, before it’s over?’ We will survive and we will win in the Presidency, with either candidate. Because John McCain voted with President Bush’ more than any other Senator. More than any other Senator! Do you really bekieve the country is going to vote for 4 more years of Bush politics? I don’t.

Deni: 4 more years of the same crap—god I hope not.

John Stewart also said “the Four Gospels are Mathew, Mark, Harpo and Zeppo.”
