wOw's Views on the News: Rupert Murdoch Bids $580M for Newsday

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

Rupert Murdoch bid $580 million for Newsday in hopes of adding it to his collection of New York-based newspapers. He already owns two of the nation’s top ten highest-circulation newspapers — The Wall Street Journal and the New York Post. Read about it here in The New York Times and here in Newsday. Some say Murdoch is an old-fashioned press baron, destroying America’s business paper of record; others say he is simply shoring up an ailing industry just in time. What do you think?

McGin- George Soros spent $18M on Campaign Finance Reform: http://www.csmonitor.com/2004/0825/p11s01-ussc.html Here is the Federal Government’s chart of total $ raised by party, and by year (scroll down) Since the early 1990s as this records, the GOP has out raised the Demos until this year. I guess the message there would be screw everything up and folks kinda dial-back on the dough. http://www.fec.gov/press/press2008/20080229party/20080229party.shtml Let’s not forget that one of the recent 66% of historians polled that named George Bush the WORST president in history, said “He’s good at two things. Making the ultra rich richer, and fuc*ing everything else up.” As if the entire world needed to have the obvious confirmed. http://harpers.org/archive/2008/04/hbc-90002804 Soros contribution: (nearly netted out by his concurrent donation to campaign finance reform) http://www.opensecrets.org/527s/527contribs.asp?cycle=2004 KINDLY back up your statements with FACTS. This is what the GOP gave the world: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDFNIGdd9oI&feature=related The last time we had a president who was a WIT and not a DIMWIT: JFK News Conferences http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uG7jjF6xuKM&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BC_B3OBmb0Y&feature=related

Honestly, Madam, one person’s “facts” are another person’s propaganda. Why do you think George Soros supported campaign finance reform? Does the term “527s” mean anything to you? Do you actually think that every George Soros funded 527 has his name plastered on it? Really, You Tube again? Jeremiah Wright was on You Tube and people saw and heard what they wanted to.

Mark—Any conglomerate is inherently fascistic in its makeup—it seeks to control by controlling the news. See Hitler’s Germany or Il Duce’s Italy—control the press and you have free rein. And that is exactly what Murdoch is doing—controlling large swathes of the press. Without competition a free press is and oxymoron.

Princess Grace/sdc thank you for working so hard on the telecommunications. I am well aware of some of those problems and have petitioned against them - but great explanation.

Mr. Murdock is doing what he is allowed to do. We shouldn’t be afraid of him - we should be afraid of the politics that made it possible. I believe any of us with enough money would do whatever we thought was best - but aren’t we suppose to have laws that protect us from ourselves?

we should be afraid, very afraid of ALL of them. and as to your question about the laws. clinton removed the protection of too much power in too few hands. this and glass stegall act is another reason not to vote for hillary clinton. abc, and their emphasis on ‘flag pins’ at the debate is a prime example of how the media manipulates us. they focus our interest on inanities and manipulate us into accomplishing their goals. the people are becoming wiser but only when it is so blatant even a child could see.

Well, yes, the NeoCons base their ideology on Leo Strauss who espouses Nazi views. http://www.alternet.org/story/15935/ Thomas Jefferson/JFK on the other hand based government on 18th C French Enlightenment Values—-which came from Plato’s Republic and the Renaissance that sprung out of dark times by reviving Plato’s views esp in his “Republic” that said that society should be based on the needs of the human soul. What a concept.

Is that why he furthered the deal with the French in Viet Nam? Because of his French Enlightenment Values or was it because of his relationship with the Catholics? He increased our forces in Viet Nam which escalated our participation in France’s conflict in South East Asia. Then it ended up our war. How many lives were lost over all that French Enlightenment?

Frances-The Vietnam war began with the Geneva Convention in 1956 and the ‘temporary’ partition of the county. The ‘Domino’ theory was President Eisenhowesr. JFK assumed office in 1960 and is on record, in many venues, of not wanting a US entanglement stating that we were there as advisors, it was their war. By September 1963, two months before JFK was killed, a total of 82 US troops had died in Vietnam in the years they’d been there since before his term in office began. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uG7jjF6xuKM Banned in the US was a book by French Intelligence Agents called L’Amerique Brule (America Burns) and written under the pen name James Hepburn (the spooks were in love with Audrey Hepburn ie J’aime Hepburn.] They concluded that JFK was killed by an amalgam of oil/military interests that in part wanted to esculate the war. JFK had proposed cutting oil subsidies, he had fired the JR Chiefs of Staff Leimitzer after he proposed Northwood Operation (details released only in the last few years after documents declassified —but basically Leimitzer proposed staging terrorists attacks in the US, blowing up our ships in Gitmo Bay, and staging a war against a central or south american country and blame all of these things on Cuba so there would be a pretext to attack. ABC News on Northwoods Ops: (ie Black Ops) http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=92662 James Bamford is an ABC News Producer and long time writer/expert on US intell agencies. his books Body of Secrets and Pretext for war dealt with operations like Northwoods. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IygchZRJVXM Brown & Root was LBJ’s biggest supporter and wanted Vietnam esculated. So who knows what really happened there.JFK didn’t start Vietnam, nor did he esculate it. LBJ did, and at a horrific cost of American lives. The 18thc French Enlightenment had nothing to do with the 20th c Vietnam War.

I was wondering when this response would appear. You ran off to your “sources” (You Tube and Wikipedia) and had to come up with something to answer Frances’ very clever comment.

The You Tube embed linked to CBS taped Walter Cronkite with JFK on Vietnam including with the numbers of dead and the date of the interview date stamped. Wikipeida links to major sources to save people time finding them their selves but they can check the links and the sources. If anyone is too uninformed to know that the Vietnam started under Eisenhower as a diect result of the 1956 Geneva Convention what can I say, check facts before making snide false statements. Frances’ comment wasn’t clever, it was wrong. So yeah, countering a factually wrong comment with Walter Cronkite/CBS News—-gee, how can we believe that? Mark Klein—-law enforcement is watching you—hate crimes—and am also collecting everything you write for license board complaint. And Here’s YOUR post on YOUR blog in praise of YouTube: http://drmarkklein.blogspot.com/2006/08/thank-you-youtube.html for license censure, if not more.

Collect away you MORON!!!! I have told you REPEATEDLY that I am not DR. KLEIN, yet you refuse to listen. You are going to look like the complete fool you are when law enforcement informs you of that fact, after I gather everything you have written to me and sue you for harrassment and defamation of character!!!!!!!!!! I don’t give a damn what you do to MARK KLEIN, because I am not, I repeat not him!!!!!!!!! What is wrong with you? Dr. Klein’s posts and mine don’t even come close to having the same view—obviously, clearly I don’t PRAISE You Tube.

Oil barons had to be stopped and there was no right to oil access in our Bill of Rights like there is for our right for freedom of the press. I believe that freedom of the press right was fintended for open free reporting - not unhampered access to owning all of the news outlets you can possibly afford. Time for Government to step in

Kay— You keep on saying time for government to step in….government is NOT going to step in it is up to the people. People get the government they deserve by being apathetic, uninvolved, uninformed—or activist and informed. Thomas Jefferson said given a choice the free press was more important that the government to really inform the people. Don’t you understand that our government is run OF, For and By the Oil Barons….who’s sitting in the White House????? When did we ever have a Sec of State whose name is on on Exxon tanker??? Here’s JFK address to the heads of US media in NYC in 1962 on a free press and secret socities (which GWB’s ‘government’ is) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlghYpDx0f4
