Mother Johnston's Drug Bust Pains Palin

A grandson’s not the only new thing in Sarah Palin’s life! She may also have a new political scandal brewing.

An Alaska investigator and the union representing Alaska State Troopers claim there was some political meddling in the drug investigation of Sherry Johnston, the mother of Bristol Palin’s fiancé, Levi. The couple had a baby boy, Tripp, last month.

Mrs. Johnston was busted December 18 for six drug-related felony counts, including a "second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance," which can mean manufacturing or distributing drugs. She’s charged with selling the prescription painkiller OxyContin, but is out on bail and due in court this week.

Though investigators have been eyeing Johnston for some time, investigator Kyle Young insists the case "became anything but normal" after they realized Johnston’s connection to Palin, who was running for vice president at the time.

According to Young, the warrant for Johnston’s arrest was delayed because of the November general election.

John Cyr, executive director of the union, told the Anchorage Daily News, "This really does smack of political favoritism. And if that be the case, it’s another example of the Palin administration’s direct influence on the public safety unit."

That remark was in reference to the so-called "Troopergate" investigation, which involved allegations that Palin, her husband, Todd, and others, encouraged public-safety officials to fire her brother-in-law, who was in the middle of a nasty divorce with the governor’s sister. A report later found that Palin did in fact abuse her power a bit and let family influence that decision.

Alaska’s public-safety officials, meanwhile, claim the case was handled fairly, and promise that neither the governor nor anyone in her office knew police were investigating Johnston until the arrest warrant was served. Of course, only a thorough investigation into the investigation can reveal the truth.

All the talk about Palin running in 2012 is a joke. This woman will not make it to 2012 without being indicted for abuse of political power. It appears to be systemic. This is how Blagojevich started… with rumors and investigations, one after the other. Soon it was apparent it was only a matter of time. This is the way Palin appears to be running her own governorship and it will be one thing after another until she is about as viable a presidential candidate as Rod Blagojevich. These narcissistic personalities can’t help themselves. They think they are on a different plane than the rest of us and get to live by different rules.

DeBúrca: These narcissistic personalities can’t help themselves. And we’ve seen plenty of them (narcissistic personalities) in this round of elections, haven’t we?

We surely have: all pols are narcissistic but Palin is a true standout in that class.

Well, two are obvious. Blagojevich and Palin. They both overestimate their abilities and appear to believe they are immune to scrutiny.

Or immune to reality

Yes, that too. Their sense of reality has little to do with ACTUAL reality.

Excuse me ….I think selling a Senate seat is alot more controversial than what Sarah is accused of. The article said “may” be an issue. She may not have had anyting to do with it. You are also aware this investigator may be a buddy of Wooton or her bad cop ex brother-in-law ( who in any other state woukld have been fired) with an axe to grind!

Abuse of power is ABUSE of power. It is a crime. Whether it is to sell a Senate seat or to help out your family. And this woman appears to be a serial abuser.

I agree that this warrant should have been delayed. Why embarrass Palin and McCain with information like this. If indeed this story is true, why shouldn’t Johnston to make and sell drugs for a few more weeks without any repercussions to the McCain/Palin ticket? Since this woman was going to be sharing a grandchild with a possible new VP’s daughter, it would only have put the spotlight on Levi and Bristol again. I am sure the Johnston family did not have one inkling or doubt about Sherry, otherwise they would have gotten her the help she needed after the election.

OMG, Brooklyn Gal, are you SERIOUS?! With all the skeletons in the Palin family, there’s no way I can believe that the Republicans actually ever vetted her ~ and if they did, then shame on them. The McCain/Palin ticket received only a part of the embarrassment it deserved. The Palin family reads like a trashy novel or TV script. And as for your statement, ” I am sure the Johnston family did not have one inkling or doubt about Sherry, otherwise they would have gotten her the help she needed after the election” ~ yeah, this wonderful, caring family didn’t even show up in court today for her. According to the Anchorage Daily News, she arrived alone, with no friend or family member, and asked for a public defender. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

CNN recently lumped Palin in with those who had fallen from grace….anything she is accused of doing is nothing compared with these folks she was compared to. CNN objective..I think not! Now, let’s have a quick review what the other seven have done: Rob Blagojevich (D-IL)- Caught in a criminal bribe taking pay-to-play scheme to sell Barack Obama’s senate seat to the highest bidder John Edwards(D-NC)- Had an affair with an underling as his wife was dying of cancer, an affair he hid from public knowledge as he ran for president Kwame Kilpatrick (D-MI)- Sentenced to 4 months in jail for obstruction of justice for impeding a criminal investigation into his actions as Detroit’s mayor Larry Langford (D-AL)- Birmingham, Alabama mayor arrested on charges of bribery, fraud, money laundering and filing a false income tax statement Tim Mahoney (D-FL)- Replaced sex crazed Rep. Mark Foley in Florida while hiding his own extra-marital affairs from the voters, then lost his bid for reelection once the truth came out Elliot Spitzer (D-NY)- Caught with a prostitute, lost his job as governor of New York Ted Stevens (R-AK)- Faces jail for bribery and making false statements to the feds

ANYone who is involved with a politcial person in charge of highly sensitive information, is investigated….HECK! EVEN I have been investigated! My former husband had a very high SPIN number—-and while living on Nasa I…I learned that on 3 separate occasions, a backgorund check had been done on me….they weren;t looking fro drugs, either—that is not my path—-they were looking for character and integrity. It is NORMAL that someone be investigated when they are so close to governmental power….. but to choose Palin to begin with—-SHOULD have been investigated FURTHER……before she was chosen…..I for one, am looking for a role model for the children of America…aren;t you?
