Obama, Sykes Flex Funny Bones at Washington Correspondents' Dinner (Video)

YouTube

President Obama yukked it up at the Washington Correspondents’ dinner Sunday night in Washington, poking fun at Hillary Clinton, Republicans and even himself.

Comic Wanda Sykes also took to the podium to skewer Dick Cheney, Rush Limbaugh, and even jest about Michelle Obama hugging the queen and bearing her arms ("the country is broke — sleeves cost money!"). She also took a shot at Sen. John McCain for giving Obama a hard time about ordering some pricey military helicopters, saying he’s just jealous. "Mr. McCain, I’m sure if you ask nicely, your wife will buy you a  helicopter."

Here are the top 3 quips from Obama and Sykes, respectively:

Obama:

1. Saying former rival Hillary Clinton’s recommendation to former Republican Sen. Arlen Specter was "if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em."

2.  Re: Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, known for his nasty temper: "This is a tough holiday for Rahm. He’s not used to saying the word ‘day’ after ‘mother."

3. "Dick Cheney was supposed to be here, but he is very busy working on his memoirs, tentatively titled, ‘How to Shoot Friends and Interrogate People.’"

Sykes:

1. To Obama: "You know, it’s funny to me that they never caught you smoking, but they always catch you with your shirt off. Now, I know you’re into this transparency thing, but, uh, I don’t need to see your nipples."

2.  "I think Rush Limbaugh was the 20th hijacker [on 9/11] but he was just so strung out on OxyContin he missed his flight. He needs a good waterboarding — that’s what he needs."

3. Sykes took a particularly harsh jab at Sarah Palin, saying she was scheduled to attend the dinner, but then "pulled out at the last minute." "Somebody should tell her that’s not really how you practice abstinence."

I don’t think 9-11, the swine flu and the Air Force One fly over NYC is something to joke about.  Maybe talk to the people’s families who have lost their love ones on 9-11 or have lost them to the swine flu…let’s see if they are laughing! imho

Don’t worry, after W’s ‘joke’ about searching for WMDs under the podium after so recently having sent our soldiers to die in Iraq, nobody is going to be offended by a swine flue joke.

Why don’t you ask one of the family members then and see what they may tell you…dare you.

His speech was brilliant, but of course you can’t admit that, keep the spin coming.

Actually, though I am not surprised you thought the President’s speech was ‘brilliant’ his delivery/timing is still alittle wonky. He is just not naturally self depriating…which you need…to have great delivery. Obama’s delivery if the line “you know you all voted for me” was delivered with no tone of irony…hey, you put me her…no it was that nose in the air..”.of course you would have voted for me, who wouldn’t?”

His delivery was perfect. he had great material and he delivered it perfectly. Quite surprising actually, I never thought of him as a natural comedian. The ‘you all voted for me joke’ was hilarious because for the most part they all did, they knew it, they cracked up and he delivered it brilliantly. Of course I wouldn’t expect the right wing to get the humor, they are more into Limbaugh type Michael J. Fox physical ‘humor’… gaffaw!

He just showed the arrogance we all know of him!  The funny part is he really believes EVERYONE voted for him?

It wouldn’t have been funny if they HAD NOT… but they were cracking up because it was so damn funny.

Oh I know who wouldn’t have… but they weren’t there.

He is a comedian alright, but we sure don’t need a big joke in the WH rt now.  I don’t see much humor abt any of this. We have some serious worries.  There should NEVER be any kind of joke when referring to 9-11. It is no joke to me, so let’s take a poll.

Is it just comedy to make a 9-11 joke?  My vote is NO, he*l NO.

Cannot wait until 2012 when the republicans will have a wagon load of Obama material!

Yes, maybe you can get Michael Steele in the ‘hizzy’ to deliver that "wagon load" of material! Can’t wait.

Mornin LL ~ were you offended by W’s joke DB referenced? how about him saying "goodbye from the biggest polluter"? or how about when a woman tells about having to work 2 jobs and he says "that’s great, that’s what America’s all about"?

If we can’t laugh, we’re lost. When Rush says he hopes the president fails - he’s not joking. Correct me if I’m wrong, but that was the only "9/11" joke, wasn’t it, about RL being the 20th hijacker? and the NY plane flyover joke by O was a great way of saying - man, these guys get so childish! what were they thinking - I had to punish them."

The ants are going up the rubber tree plant!

ANY reference to a 9-11 hijacker for comedy is repulsive, disgusting, low-class trash. That was the most disrespectful.

Actually I an fedup with this whole dinner.  It makes america look like a big joke to the whole world. No dignity in our politics anymore.  America is just one big cesspool of jokes and bing-bling celebs.  What business do they have anyway attending our DC political dinners?  Stay the "h" in looneywood.
