“Many people in the country are straining against change. They like our country the way it is.”
CBS Poll: 81% of the people think America is on the wrong track:

Senator McCain has voted with Bush 100% of the time and affirms his policies. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. Senator McCain’s polices are disastrous for women. Europe has Obama fever.
JFK still has a 84% approval rating and many loathed him and Jackie too. They ripped her hair, her voice, her background, her clothes, her food, ‘debutant ways.’ As one of my sister, a theologian who was also pastor of large church said, “30% of the people will love you in spite of anything you do, 30% will loathe you no matter what you try, and the rest just don’t care.”
This is a very diverse country. I agree that Mrs. Obama would do herself and her husband a favor by dialing it back a notch, but she has to be herself. They have a huge base of fans and have raised more money in the history of elections, $2M a day, a quarter billion thus far, $100M anticipated for June. And 94% of donations are under $200. This demonstrates their popularity and also strategy acumen.
It’s impossible to please all of the people. And by listening too much to advisors Gore, Kerry, Clinton all came off as less than authentic.
Every campaign is different and things must be adjusted as they go. But they’ve done an incredible job, and am sure will just improve as they go, although for certain can’t get through this fire without getting burnt.
I’ve read all of the comments and, as an artist, I am choosing to comment on the black and white and red all over photos first. I really love them and if I knew how to underline ‘really’ I would.
As for the question:
I couldn’t agree more with Mary Wells! When I read Liz’s response, I got a bit queasy which I now realize could be due to the tomatoes I ate for dinner (thank you wowowow for making me aware of that one).
Oh, yes…back to the question. My advice is much like what I gave to Mrs. McCain. Accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative. Adjust your sails for the winds ahead. Oh, wait…..that is nothing like the advice I gave Mrs. McCain… it must be late.
Remember that there is difference between a groove and a rut.
Great Josie,
Now you have me singing “don’t mess with Mr. In-Between”.
I think your advice (and I had to go back to see your comment for Cindy. OMG) is the best because it’s a nicer way of saying what Liz, et al were trying to say—but were a bit more blunt. They see Michelle as a product they want to sell, and all products must meet the needs of the consumer (middle class voters).
Political campaign, marketing campaign….it’s the same thing. Those winds ahead are the conservatives painting a horrible picture of her.
Michelle is a savvy woman. She knows what to do without compromising herself.

Josie -
About the black and white and red all over photographs. I’ve looked at all three again and noticed that only Hillary Clinton and Cindy McCain have their lips colored red and some part of their clothing. For Michele Obama, only the background of the American Flag is red. And that photograph looks the best. The red touches on the figures of the first two is like a distortion. I initially thought of a negative that had been rather garishly touched up. What do you see in the photographs. I must admit that when I did look again, I was not as repelled as I was at first.
Hey Ms. Bonnie-
I just love black and white photos! I like the red thrown in. I do think the photo of Michelle makes her arm look kinda long. Do you see that? I find photos of Michelle hard to mess up because she is so beautiful and seems so relaxed in her skin. I was delighted when the photos of Jackie -O went up with out sleeves on her dresses. It was fashionable then as it is now. We could call it “the right to bare arms” LOL!
Josie Sullivan, you are so right. Michelle Obama is comfortable in her skin and that is most admirable and appealing.
I love your “right to bare arms.”
Josie and Bonnie
I wasn’t repelled, it is just a sharp contrast to all the beautiful photos of the founders of wow. I get Josie’s point very well, but when I have seen the women on TV or in print, they look much better.
Frannie- I agree that the photo of Michelle isn’t the best but in general I love the balck and white and red all over pics.

I seem to recall a book of children’s pictures printed in the same red/black/red style? Looking again at Michelle’s picture, the arm does seem extended. However, she has beautiful arms, like the ice skater, Michelle Kwan. I guess I really don’t like the lipstick effect on the other two photographs. The red on the clothing is okay but that lipstick looks garish. An interesting style, anyway. And, yes, I also favor simple black and white photography. I have some ancestry photographs that have taken my breath away. What a treasure to uncover.
Josie Sullivan —— you are a very funny lady; if the artist thing doesn’t work out for you, there’s always stand-up comedy. BTW, I love your picture; is that actually you, by any chance?
Gianna- That is one of my dreams. I did it once and it worked well. The opportunity fell into my lap and I don’t really know how to make that happen again. I watch Ellen a lot because I think she is the master!
Oh Josie,
You should do “open mike” sessions at some clubs. “Right to bare arms”..ROTFL
But I can see you writing a weekly column using your flair for humor. Maybe right here on WoW. You can join Jane and be part of the weekend funnies.
btw, I haven’t seen the “comment numbers” included on posts. What gives???
