What advice do you have for Michelle Obama?

Joan Cooney: Forget Your Opinions, Mrs. Obama

Michelle Obama should talk only about how the country needs her husband’s leadership to bring about change and about family life, both in a very benign noncontroversial way. And forget, FORGET, that she has any opinions of her own.

Mary Wells: Mrs. McCain Is Pretty but Michelle Obama Is Glorious

I think Michelle is gloriously 2008 and shouldn’t change. Pretty Mrs. McCain stands still on the side, slightly behind, like so many of the women.
In America’s history, wives of heads of corporations as well as wives of presidents – they barely breathe, they smile demure smiles, we are not supposed to focus on them, but we all register: nice ladies. Mrs. McCain must be cute to know – he had a wide choice. But when a woman is as still as she is you get an idea that he is the general and she marches to his tune.

Hillary’s face is active and expressive and can be dramatic and she has learned a new smile that is big and lovely and somebody new is doing her makeup this year — good for her!!! But Hillary moves like a girls’ basketball coach — back and forth, from an older era. Michelle moves from head to toe, she moves her slim athletic body as if she could jam with the best of them, clicking her fingers. The two of them, Barack and Michelle, use a podium or speech area differently than other political couples.

They move around each other, like a dance routine, and they relate to each other and even touch each other, groovy, feeling free. She makes me feel good. She isn’t scared. She has opinions. He cares about them. They have a dancing marriage that has spirit. Other good marriages in the White House, no matter how glamorous, have been still and typical of the puritanical American past. Some of the male presidents have had secret or not-so-secret affairs. But there was no happy heat that we could see – no strong communication that was obvious to us between the president and his wife. The Obamas look and act like change, like 2008, like good times. I don’t want to lose any of that.

Liz Smith Wants Michelle Obama to Just Be Adorable

Feminists will put a contract out on me and I NEVER thought I’d say this but it would be relaxing if she acted like being First Lady in the traditional sense was the first order of business. Devote herself to the arts or something like that. But stay out of politics, religion, and not offer the strong-minded opinions that have gotten her and him in so much trouble. And double on abandoning any evidence of taking revenge on anybody. Just be Mrs. Obama for THE NEXT FOUR YEARS. I have always wanted First Ladies to be so much more than they ever are, but in her case, I just want her to be adorable.

What White House child outside of Alice Longworth have we seen again? How about John and Carolyn Kennedy?

What White House child … I think I saw a rather dignified, intelligent, attractive Chelsea Clinton quite a bit recently.

Marked. I agree. I’ll wager she doesn’t even think it’s responsible mothering to drag those little girls into this endeavor (no, I don’t know her personally and can’t say for sure). But they made this decision and now will live with it. As will we all, should he be elected.

It is an interesting question as to why would a parent with small children run for the office of President? Fair to the children? Of course not. Fair to the other parent? I would think not inasmuch as the non-President parent has to take on almost singlehandedly the parenting role for the children. Fair to the country? Now, there is a question to be answered and I think the most important. Does the nation want a President who essentially puts his children second to his/her ambition? The nation, as a whole, has not objected in the past.

Advice for Michelle Obama 1) Be brave 2) You can do it. Comment on some comments: Every human being in the world has the right to give advice, make comments etc to all the politicians all over the world. Politicians are only public servants. And however they are ‘elected’ whether by ‘self election’ or ‘legally’ elected , they are asking for advice, comments etc wanted or not.

Next week, Michelle Obama is going to host a show on The View. Does anyone know what day that will be on? I really want to see her “do her thing”. And, I always enjoy seeing what color she will be wearing.

Hi Diana, Michelle Obama will be a guest host on “The View” on June 18th. Exciting!

How did The View become some sort of imprimatur or rite of passage? A&E used to show reruns in the evening, so I saw it…it was OK, but it didn’t rule my life. Now, my friends actually watch daytime TV with this thing. Everyone talks at once—and it isn’t half as smart as some of these comments. In my opinion.

Star, I am with you there. I like that Whoopi is on. She’s got a lot of common sense.

Hi Star
I don’t watch The View, but when I read that someone interesting is going to be a guest, I do TiVo it. The thing that appeals to me is an arena off the beaten path. I don’t listen so much as watch. Body language, reactions, all generated by topics that might not be brought up elsewhere. (….which is probably just as well you might say?) I am looking forward to observing Michelle Obama swimming with the sharks, should be quite interesting. And by the way, that is the second time you have sent me clicking off to online dictionaryland…..so much to learn, so little time! :-) (Re learning, I asked in another thread if you think here is ANYone in Washington who is worth a hoot and I am still wondering about your opinion if you are inclined to share it?)

The View” has not been fair and balanced concerning the current presidential election. The ladies practically fell all over Senator Obama when he visited a month or so ago. Senator Clinton never had a chance. I personally appreciate Ms. Goldberg’s and Ms. Hasselbeck’s respective contributions to the program. Honesty is hard to come by these days.

N P Thank you for that info, will watch. Great bottle. Do you collect perfume bottles. I have a small antique business and I sell a lot of perfume bottles. Don’t have any now though.

Hi Frannie - I’m not a perfume bottle collector per se. However, I am a perfume enthusiast. I love natural perfumes, as well as some gorgeous synthetics, especially those from the classic fragrance houses. Guerlain, Dior, etc. I have more lab beakers for my mixing than need for bottles right now. But if you have a website, please forward. I’m in So Cal. What state is your bus in?
