There is a great new website set up by the Obama campaign Fightthesmears.com. I think you would appreciate it. They put to bed many of the rumors. It is cool
To lovely Lily (of the Valley),
Is this the glossy part of the wowOwow magazine? Hmmm. I’d like to answer that by giving Barack some advice. You look great in bright colors, and I love the way you do your hair!
Lily,
I know what you mean, but it has given everyone a chance to cool off and make the transition of candidates.
Hi Frannie,
Maybe we can have him wear a nice red, white and blue flag tie, so people will stop harping about that flag pin thing. If that’s too ‘busy,’ maybe pink to show he’s confident about his masculinity?
I agree that a little more substance would be nice. So many interesting people - with such divergent and insightful points of view - can probably handle a tough question or two.
Meanwhile, what do YOU think about his tie color?
We don’t need to pick his ties. He has terrific taste in ties.
I love discussing style (not as a mainstay but for a change) because real style flows from substance as the reflection and embodiment of the total person. It has tremendous drawing power and impact:
In under 3 months in the White House Jacqueline Kennedy grabbed the entire world’s attention from Pasadena to Paris to Polynesia to Peru. Even enemies of America had schoolboy stars in their eyes for Jackie. A European Cultural Minister called her, “One who lights the match and gives hope.” Fashionistas quipped, “Her Elegance.” In India they anointed her, “Goddess of Power.” In South America they regaled her as a folk heroine. The international press trumpeted her trip to Paris as her own apotheosis. Two million of France’s citizenry went apoplectic in the streets, waved Us flags and and chanted “Viva Jacqui!’ How did she mesmerize the planet? What was the secret of her superhuman appeal? How did certifiable-egghead Jackie bump reigning sex-queen Marilyn Monroe off every moviestar magazine cover? Jackie was an expert on symbols and myths, and their powers that could be harnessd to triumphal success because they are they universally inherent language. The eternal flame wasn’t an accident, nor were the turned around boots on the riderless horse, or the sensibility to wear red in Canada…..etc…etc…etc.
Whether one believes it or not doesn’t make it less true. Image is everything and the Obamas embody the image of the future. It is like Pico showing up and giving his Oration on the Dignity of Man that sparked Italian culture from dark to the Renaissance. Things change from spirit. They have the spirit the world needs right now. Whoever doesn’t understand that doesn’t understand the pivitol points in history. We are witnessing one.
Hi Suzanne,
This isn’t a discussion about Obama’s ties.
This is a sardonic attempt at illustrating that some responents find the questions posed lately to be somewhat superficial.
I think this generation of first ladies is difficult to pin down as to what they should or should not do because there is such a disparity between being Nancy and being Hillary and you can’t do both but we will compare them, however unfair that is of us - so she has to define herself quickly, unfortunately
Michelle seems like an independent woman so she should continue to be independent and work on things that interest her - during the campaign, she should just forge on ahead the way she has - I do think her comment was taken out of context but I don’t think that is a sign that she shouldn’t say anything - one of the things I like about them both is that they don’t cower when the press says they goofed, they move on
I would tell her that her top priority is her marriage so if he needs her, then she should be there for him but not be there for him for the press’ sake - he is walking into a minefield for this campaign and if elected in the Oval Office, he will likely need her strength even more than ever before

If you are referring to the “for the first time in my adult life etc.,” No that was not taken out of context. I was listening to her speak and was immediately on edge after hearing that comment. No stutters, no pauses, she was all confidence. She meant it…..at the time, she meant it.
Is any negative or questioning comment about a candidate or spouse now “swiftboating”? I need to get up on my lingo. Do I have to buy an outboard motor?
“Is any negative or questioning comment about a candidate or spouse now “swiftboating”?” I don’t think so. “Can you be a swiftboat with an outboard motor?” I think that might be swiftboat-lite.
Advice to help Barack win in November
- Embody the look and demeanor of a Stepford wife.
- Ignore the slings and arrows no matter what.
- Never let them see you sweat, smoke or drink booze.
- Surround yourself with compliant children. If they blow snot or vomit
on you -ignore it until you’re off-camera unless you can think of a
good one-liner.
- Give out compliments like candy to the camera folks.
