I think what we do that may impact others should be taken seriously. What others do to impact the lives of many should be taken seriously. What others do that impact you individually should not be taken too seriously, but appreciated or forgiven as appropriate. With each passing year I take life less seriously. I stopped making lists of what I must acheive and just try to appreciate today.
I’m surrounded by people at work who take things far too seriously. I look for the light side to keep spirits up, to keep us moving. One boss who was very wise asked me early in my career when I was bent out of shape over a problem, “Is anyone going to die because of this? No? Then lighten up.” Wise, wise words
I almost never take life too seriously as it so exhausting just to get back up to speed! Besides, I don’t want my seriousness to become contagious! This especially applies when your starting over! I just returned to work for the first time today after back surgery last September. I’m absolutely wiped out, but feel confident that my groove will catch up with my outlook in the coming weeks! Being serious and tactful are two different things to me; whenever possible, I’ll choose tactfulness over seriousness.
Lin Si ……glad to know that your still checking in with all of us here on the “ole wowowow” homefront!
Mugsy …….hope that your having a spectacular birthday (and keep celebrating ALLWEEKLONG)!
We are just passing through. I ask the question of myself is this
going to bother me 100 years from now? More often than not
the answer is no, so just let it go, get on with the rest of your
life and find the fun.
Gotta laugh. It’s survival. Just today I was driving down the freeway, hunched over the steering wheel, positioned to pass the car next to me when I had a thought: “Here we all are, enclosed in metal, spiffed up to look slick, trying to be first or just stay out of the way - to the great cosmic eye we must look ridiculous.” On any given day for every ten things to weep about there are a hundred laughable moments. When it all gets too serious, I try to read a lot of Erma Bombeck or Dorothy Parker or Mugsy Peabody.
My second favorite household chore
is ironing. My first being, hitting my
head on the top bunk bed until I faint.
- Erma Bombeck-
Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song,
A medley of extemporanea;
And love is a thing that can never go wrong;
And I am Marie of Romania.
Dorothy Parker
I ALWAYS suspected my reputation was having more fun than I was…
Mugsy Peabody ( Happy Birthday to You!)
Oh, guys, what can I say???? Mugsy is speechless! Seriously, it makes me profoundly happy to have met you guys and formed this new community. The question of the day reminds me of an old quote of Albert Camus: “Live to the point of tears.” Only on my refrigerator, I’ve crossed out the tears and put laughter. But, actually, it is the same thing — the emotions have grown so strong they must spill over, and we laugh, and cry, and dance, and sing, and jump and giggle and pound and bawl and throw things and cuss and cry and blow our noses and applaud — anything, anything deep enough or rich enough to spill over, I am in favor of. Love you guys, and thanks so very much, Ms. Lily, for the delicious cake! Baci Baci.
