Ok, you all have sent me scurrying to my room to find some of the encouraging words I have tacked up on my walls. THINK FAST LIVE SLOW NON ILLEGITMATI CARBORUNDUM ‘You are not the container but the content. Discarding the container and discovering the content is the whole process of enlightenment.’ OSHO (Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh) Happy B-Day Mugsy!

Cynthia…This reminded me that my great friend, Michael, who has a million friends, is forever saying, “Forgive quickly, kiss slowly.”

My favorite cartoon was from the FarSide years ago. A pair of praying mantas were sitting on a left. One had a very small man in a business suit on it’s shoulder and it was yelling “Get it off! Get it off!” Made me realize that life is just how you view it and it is to crazy to be taken seriously.

Did I mention my friend Constance Carlson Ibsen gave me not one but two boxes of sparklers? How’s THAT for celebration?

If I could only bottle laughter I would be very rich. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA >>>>>>giggle<<<<<<< >>>>>>>giggle<<<<<<< ***snort kerchuckle*** Try it…..when you are blue….when you are happy…..when you are sad…..when you are mad. But don’t let life get you down. Instead laugh.

I never forgive quickly, kiss slowly; watch YouTube (though I am making a video of our writer’s spokesdog Scribbles for it—http://writerscatablog.com); watch clouds; or muse over poetry like I did 40 years ago. I work, support my family, struggle, and whine! My guru days are in the past. Everyone is different. AND—although I make my living as a humorist, I am not always laffing. But all of that does not mean I am taking things too seriously. Paradox?

I’ll try this again…Happy Belated Birthday Mugsy! I hope you take a “Birthday Week” as I do! Life is short. My Father died at 68…I was blessed to spend the last 6 weeks with him…I asked him if he had any regrets…he had always told me this was “no dress rehearsal”…anyway…he said he had no regrets, except leaving me. He had lived his life the way he wanted. His own rules. But, because of the way he had raised me, he knew I would be “okay”. I was more than okay…his early death changed my life, and I started LIVING!!! I miss him every day like I lost him yesterday, but I know the greatest tribute to him is for me to LIVE THIS LIFE!

Peggy, I love your philosophy, besides, you can have a pity party, but no one comes.

My mother’s quip always stays with me. When I took things too seriously and felt worried she always said, “This too shall pass”. Now that she is gone I remember this when I am pessimistic.

I guess the hardest thing to do is to decide what part of life should be taken seriously and which isn’t. For the most part, keeping my sense of humor is what also keeps me going!

certainly but it takes skill to get through life…not the kind you learn in college of post graduate….i am a big fan of john wooden (former ucla basketball coach) he wrote something like this…if you dont put pressure on yourself you wont do a good job….you gotta have some friends and not be afraid to ask for help if you get in a bind….and do the same for them cause you never know and an old southern saying…well i going to leave that out…sad about tim russett , he was one of us, and brian williams and nbc will be lost without him….thanks tommy
