What do you think is in store for Caroline Kennedy's political future?

I would be very surprised if Caroline ‘disappears’ back into her life after this election. However, I think her role will be more as an advisor or ambassador of some kind. The whole VP thing feels to me as though it is just being drummed up by the media for something to talk about.
personally, i think she should stay as far away from ‘politics’ as is possible…doesnt anyone anymore remember the grief that ‘politics’ has brought the kennedy family…besides, other than the name, she really isnt qualified..
I’d agree she isn’t really qualified to be president, but she is certainly qualified to run for an office, be an advisor or ambassador.
I agree with De, she isn’t qualified to be President, but she is more than qualified to run for office. Besides the name, she is the Director of the Commision on Presidential Debates, Director of the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, advisor to the Harvard Institute on Politics, author of three books on constitutional law, and a lawyer licensed in both New York and Washington, DC.
lorraine..so…still doesnt take away the fact she has no down and dirty political experience…looks like she likes to be pristine and lofty about politics to me…
I have SO much to say to that comment, but in the interest of civility, and the fact that I just don’t have the energy for another “spirited” discussion this week, let’s just say I emphatically disagree.
Hi Cherokee….I think another way of saying “looks like she likes to be pristine and lofty about politics to me” is that she is a dignified lady and would never get into the pig pen and slug it out. And that is something that Obama also tries to maintain.
Caroline Kennedy has lost her father, her mother and her brother..while there are still plenty of Kennedy clan to rally round as extended family, she may be wanting to have a life other than political.
I think this country has asked plenty of that branch of the Kennedy family and that we ought not expect the only surviving member to step into a job she doesn’t want. If she has political ambitions, she can make the move to activate that.
Anyone wanting to be President of the US has to be signing up for the toughest job in the world. If a woman already has a life she loves and is happy, why would she even want to take on a thankless job like being President?? I just would hate to see Caroline chewed up in that maw of political life..I always liked Diane Feinstein but she is looking very weary and a lot older these days..
Dianne Feinstein won’t make it to the convention, I heard - she was supposed to lead the California delegation, but broke her ankle last weekend. Too bad - she’ll be missed.
Lorraine, I live blocks away from DF and didn’t hear about the broken ankle! Had to read about it on wOw from a Chicago gal!! Sheesh, am I au courrant, or what? (rarely read the SF Chronicle any more when used to read it religiously every day for years.) Poor DF…that is miserable esp when older. I was in a toe to knee cast for 4+ months and not a fun experience at all.
As others have commented, Caroline Kennedy is far too private a person to ever actively run for a political office. However…..I do believe WHEN barrack Obama takes office as our next president he will appoint her to a cabinet position of some sort. I find the Kennedy family to be incredibly interesting and complex. They struggle with the same issues as the Jones, Johnson and McAfees…..the only thing that separates them from the mainstream of Americans are their bank accounts!
