Carol - There are too many people like that principal who walk among us. Gives me the creeps. Why would someone like your principal become involved with a career so devoted to children and the needs of children. That principal sounds like a sourpuss of the first order. Too bad that teachers do not have the right to grade their school administration officials.
Bonnie,
Now they do get that chance. But since those surveys have an impact on a principal’s bonus, many teachers fear retaliation so do not answer truthfully. Some principals actually send teachers memos about the importance of getting a good review.
Carol,
Makes you wonder why some people become principals, doesn’t it? I am sorry that you have had such horrendous experiences. Good teachers should not be run out by ineffectual administrators. But we both know that does happen.
I’ve survived many principals, both very good and truly awful. I just kept thinking that the bad ones would leave for better jobs, which they did, and the good teachers will remain. My current one is trainable. So far, so good.
Carol, that is simply awful. You must be so relieved to have dropped all of the negativity with which you were confronted. However, I am so happy to say that my boss understands me better than anyone on earth. My boss knows what I am thinking before I speak, supports my ideas, and makes certain that I get recognized for my efforts. My boss never looks over my shoulder or tries to intrude or be overbearing. She is my best friend and recognizes my strengths and intellect, and she encourages me to challenge myself, and she creates opportunities that make it possible for me to advance. When something goes wrong, as it certainly does from time to time, my boss looks me in the eyes and says, “You are a wonderful person; everyone slips now and then; I know that you will achieve your goal in this project.”
Best of all, I see my boss smile back at me in the mirror every morning because I have worked for myself for the last 13 years. Women have to learn to be so much more supportive of one another than have been historically. It is important for everyone to know that many times when we give understanding and engage in positive exchanges of ideas and energy, we get closer to our personal, professional, and social goals.
A Thought to Walk With: Making the choice to behave positively instructs our bodies and minds to react accordingly on so many levels!
Ms. Rowe, please grace us with your presence more often…Your two posts are wonderful..Please continue your “take” on Ms. Obama as we get into the campaign..
Me, myself, and I. And I have to admit I don’t like my boss sometimes - she makes unwise decisions that I have to clean up after, she is bossey to some and whinney to others, and she really doesn’t have a set game plan. I would quit but the pay is too good.
I have two bosses. The primary boss I refer to as ‘Queen Mum’, my mother. Since there are only 3 female beings in our household, having my mother be ‘QM’ allows me to hold title of ‘Queen.’ My second boss is my mini dachshund. She holds the title of ‘Princess,’ but believes she runs the house and is the ‘Queen.’ So we are a house of royalty.
We had to have three distinct titles because if my mother were to be ‘Queen’ that means that the dog and I would both have the title of ‘Princess,’ thus making us sisters. I refuse to be the dog’s sister. Both QM and the Princess push me around. One does it verbally and the other with her snout. But I still get to be ‘Queen.’
