I would like to freelance. I have checked out many websites on freelance copyediting but they all want money upfront to list you for opportunities.
Has anyone had experience with breaking into this? I am sure I am looking in the wrong places. I have decades of experience in offices and would like to translate that into online work.
Ms. Maggi D,
WHAT? I need to work from home. I have a son with autism. I NEED A JOB that I can do from home. I have purchased several pouches of magic beans from the work at home scam people.
I don’t want to sell soap, nail polish or bead necklaces or lick envelopes.
I NEEDTOWORKFROMHOME … I will for sure hit this link … I hit all the links …. I really need this … I want to make enough money to get away from this life.
Thank you for the link ….. this site does not take applicants that have free email accounts. I use hotmail and yahoo.
Ok …. back to square one.
In another life I was in affiliate relations.
liza, best of luck to you in everything! i’d help you get a magic bean that works, but i can barely get a created avatar to screen. (lily did a great job!) i have no advice, just wishes (which, if they were horses, beggars like me could ride). you DO need all the moral support you can get right now, so keep posting, and it will flow.

keep recovering first, dear … I don’t know anything about copyediting, but just in general about ‘free-lancing’ … it’s tough out there … health insurance, workman’s comp, insurance - all scary unknown words to some of us … I lived for years on the edge of fear about injuries, doctors visits (what if they found anything wrong…?) and still just knock on wood even thinking about how fragile the structures are you can build for yourself when you work for yourself … still, it’s the way I like to work, and hope to be able to continue …
My boss is: ME……I love my boss, she lets me do anything I want. I dont have to ask permission to take a day off……stay in bed and watch TV…..Go any where I want. No conferences to make major decisions. She lets me stay up all night……or sleep all day. She doesn’t make me clean my room unless I want. She says go out to dinner, you dont need to cook.
She’s the best boss I’ve ever had. I sure do love her!
The best boss I ever had was Jim Harvey, who built the transamerica pyramid in san francisco. He was a really great guy, and a wonderful horseman, as well as responsible and generous in his support of community organizations.
There are redwoods growing in the urban park next to the building on Clay Street, and I always thought that was how he was, a redwood. So tall and with so much savvy and integrity. The pyramid was built based on the book Up the Organization, and he ran the organization according to that book. He was very interested in individual people and helped each person who worked with him maximize their potential. Even though it’s been years since I worked for him, I still miss him.
My boss is ……… sometimes me, sometimes the head/director of the school I happen to be working in at the time. Bosses are useful s’times as long as they know their place! LOL!
