Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever had an out-of-body experience or felt an otherworldly presence you couldn't deny?

Whoopi Goldberg Is Keeping Mum

Yes, yes, yes! But they don’t like me to talk about it. I do one movie and now I can’t get rid of them.

Liz Smith's Belief System

Of course not. Nor do I believe in vampires, witches, imps, devils or angels. And no, I have not felt otherworldly presences nor do I want to. Out of body? Don’t I wish! I would love to be invisible at times also. But, no chance.

Didn’t mean it that way at all, Kerm. That’s why I prefaced my statement with, “I’m not trying to shove my opinion down” anyone’s throat. We can have altering views, so long as we recognize they’re just different points of view, no hostilities intended. If we all had the same opinions on everything, there would be no web forums or anything else. What is not progressive is the notion that one doesn’t have the right to express an opinion in the first place, and that if we have differing views, then let’s slam the other person, rather than sticking to the issue.

By the way, “Mommy Dearest”, I could ask you the same thing…why would any woman want to listen to you? You’re obviously extremely narrow-minded.

Actually James I don’t, but I have a sneaking suspicion. There are some on here that think that it is Susanne. I’d hate to think so, as there have been many on here, that have been very disrespectful by saying mean and nasty things about her ,so I’d hate to think she would take on those same attributes and be disrespectful of you. However, James, you are a strong guy, so don’t cower to anyone on here and keep on posting your thoughts and beliefs, and to hell with those who don’t like it. Now, I’m sure you already know that my Vikes beat your Lions…I’m sorry…But hey there’s always next week, right? Hubby and I were out and about (buying new cars) Yippy, I love mine! So’s we didn’t get a chance to watch the game and judging by the score, we didn’t miss much Ha! But just a bit ago, we finished watching the GBP’s kick Seahawks Bahoody, LOL GB is my second fav team. Next week Da Bears go up against my Vikes, and you know who I’ll be a rootin for……..Gooooooo Vikes! Much peace to you always, :)

Hi, Elaine. I forget who Suzanne is. But anyway…yeah, your Vikes were fortunate to win. Detroit actually outplayed them, and there were three atrocious calls for referees. On one, Calvin Johnson caught a long pass for a Lions first down, and was hit by two Vikings. He was temporarily unconscious, but the replays showed he still had the ball on the turf. A Viking pulled it out after he was down, and even the announcers on Fox were screaming bloody murder. But, all in all, probably better the Lions lost. They’re now 0-5, and if they end up with the most losses, they’ll get the number-one college draft pick next April. Dan Orlovsky, the Lions’ backup QB, had to play the whole game because Jon Kitna’s out with back spasms. He was mediocre and actually stepped past the end line accidentally, giving the Vikings an early 2-0 lead on a safety. That proved to be the margin of difference in the game!

James, couldn’t the forces she describes be of God? I’ve considered many of scripture’s warnings, and while I believe there is evil in the world to watch out for, I also have a soul level conviction that not all of these “spirits” are emissaries from Satan. I’m not saying this to dispute your beliefs, just to offer my own convictions. My personal experience with these influences were pure and filled with light and goodness.

Absolutely, and I’ve stated that in another post that I had a supernatural experience myself. One with an answering machine going off right after an outloud prayer following the death of my girlfriend. The other may’ve been a mere dream, but I heard a female voice calling my name when I’d fallen asleep on the highway in 1993 in heavy traffic, which woke me up. And as I stated above, I wasn’t trying to shove any opinions down any throats, just expressing my own.

James, So you won’t announce on other threads about how I am ‘dogging you’ like you accused Mommy Dearest of doing on the Finance thread…I am merely expressing my opinion. Are we clear? I don’t believe that it is appropriate to use your religious beliefs to dismiss what another believes to be true. I don’t feel quoting scripture should be done unless the topic at hand IS scripture. I’m not calling you a whiney mommy’s boy who goes running to others for support when you don’t like what someone else has said to you. That is not my intent. I know you are a greater Christian man than that because you have told me so. I just think we should check our religion at the door of WoW. If others don’t agree with me, so be it. That’s what makes us individuals. CA

I respectfully disagree, C A Rose. I think it’s fair to express religious points of view. In no way was I trying to denigrate anyone’s religious belief, just stating why I don’t agree with astrology. But I prefaced my comments in that post by saying, “I’m not trying to shove my opinions” down anyone’s throat. That was my way of saying not to take too seriously what I was saying, because I was afraid someone would misread it as a vile diatribe against someone else’s beliefs. Not so. In fact, if astrology were in any way a sin, I’m sure it would be way, way low on the list of things deemed offensive by God. But without the benefit of vocal inflections (tone of voice) or facial expressions, sometimes it’s very hard to properly convey one’s stance on something. What was meant as just a flip paragraph was misinterpreted as an entrenched religious stance, when that was never intended in any way. But, I got jumped all over for my remark. Fair enough. But when “Mother Dearest’s” rebuttal was encased in personal insults, I took offense. To me, that’s the height of rudeness and totally counterproductive to intelligent back-and-forth conversation, when it gets personal.

Dear James, Hasn’t anyone ever explained the interpretation of the use of ‘but’ after a tongue in cheek comment? Generally it is looked at as being a form of negation of the statement prefacing it. I purposely used it in my response to you so that you might understand why I took offense. No harm, no foul…right? CA

James, People become defensive when you insert your religious interpretation to other people’s experiences because you assume your beliefs are right and you discount theirs. You warn others of your skeptical beliefs in psychics as instruments of Satan when religion itself is based on faith. Centuries ago the Church classified the mentally ill devil possessed when advances modern medical psychiatry has proved otherwise. Research findings in the future may provide us logical explainations about our encounters with psychics, ghosts and other supernatural experiences. Until then I will consider them as a few of the many mysteries of this world of ours.

You are wrong about that. I simply expressed my viewpoint, did not attack anyone else’s. I have a right to state my beliefs. What is wrong is when someone attacks another person personally for stating their belief. Incidentally, given that my answering machine was going off from within a closed drawer right after I said a prayer to Jesus Christ - and would not shut off until I took it out and played it - is scientifically impossible. So, there are definitely supernatural forces, one way or another. I choose to belief in Christ. Some do not. That’s their right. I don’t castigate them in a public forum for their beliefs. That’s called being “open-minded”. But when they castigate me for my beliefs, that is “close-minded”.
