I can’t afford cosmetic stuff, but I have found with the required stuff—such as trying to stick your retina back on—that surgeons can really screw up. Even that required one RUINED my appearance—one pupil is bigger than the other, it’s red after 1.5 yrs, and oh, right, it doesn’t function as an eye. Be careful, is all I can say. I blogged on my health humor site, http://healthsass.blogspot.com, yesterday about how sinus surgery is near your brain and eye, so be careful. Allow me to note one thing these surgeons told me: Nothing is the same as before once you have an operation. I notice on those plastic surgery shows that people don’t even look that different. But I am just bitter, I guess.
Please ! acceptance of what we really are. I can’t believe the images of “beauty” that our star obsessed culture put forward. Women with their lips plumped up so they look crazy (someone thinks this is sexy?), botoxed so they can’t move their faces. I think there is nothing sexier than someone totally comfortable with themselves and all that life has given them. I keep myself in shape. I’ve always kept out of the sun and I do use creams, but more to keep my skin from being dry and for sunscreen than to fight back those wrinkles. I exercise so no need for lipo. Have those surgeons focus on those with birth defects, wounds from the war, etc. People who really do need the help. Let’s get our image of beauty back to something real.
Good cosmetic surgery are for those who have the money. Or those who just want to feel good about themselves. (for some it works for others, there is more to being happy than how you look)
Sad. I am interpreting the focus of this question to be on plastic surgery for the purposes of enhancement, and not for those with physical deformities, for which I do think plastic surgery is needed.
I think it is sad that this society does not honor the old.
I am running through images of people over 50, men and women, right now. I am sure you are doing the same. They are friends and family, actors, writers, etc. They have lived life, experienced life. And now, see their thinning hair, their facial skin with its lines and wrinkles, hear their voices, their stories, their laughter. Are they not beautiful?
good cosmetic surgery is questionable…what is good? does it mean like Cher, you only faintly resemble your old self? Or..Dolly P. who keeps working on looking the same?
Good cosmetic surgery, I agree with Lily, is when you don’t get your money’s worth. I know too many people whose surgery made them look different from the people I knew a few months ago and not like they looked younger.
Good cosmetic surgery……. is a personal choice! Speaking for myself though….. would not undergo surgery for anything unless it was a medical necessity. As a child, I loved the wrinkles of my Grammy (grandmother) and Gram (great-grandmother)….. I loved to touch the back of their hands and feel the texture that was so different than mine. I remember looking forward to having a face so full of character as theirs…. and I still look forward to this! I want my family to see me as being happy in my own skin & looking age appropriate. I am so very lucky to have a husband who loves me and thinks I’m sexy no matter how the outside changes!
