Mary Wells: Barack Obama Isn't Snubbing Anyone

I don’t think anyone is being snubbed. I think Obama is trying to pull in all the smart useful ones and hoping they will perform a service for their country, and it is much too early to know whether American politics can handle that.

Liz Smith: Hillary Clinton Needs All the Help She Can Get

Oh, for Pete’s sake, give the secretary of state a chance to get started before judging her in such a puerile manner. She and the vice president are longtime friends … she has known Dick Holbrooke for years (I’d say all the years he tried to become sec. of state himself) and she understands all about him and his ambitions … she is just poised to begin her very hard work putting things to rights in American diplomacy.

I think it’s childish for us to stand back and attribute crappy attitudes of jealousy and competition when none of us know exactly what is going on. But I’ll bet dollars to doughnuts, knowing Hillary Clinton, that she understands she can’t do it all by herself and that there are world problems aplenty, more than enough to go around.

She also knows that Holbrooke has his work cut out for him in trying to set things right with Pakistan. I imagine she’s rooting for him and strongly in his corner. He almost didn’t take this job; it was such a daunting one.

In this world, Hillary needs more smart people helping her, not less. I believe this State Department won’t have the chance to be a "petty competition" because there is too much at stake.

Joan Juliet Buck's Beef With the Media

Gossip about status and rank is just the kind of boring garbage that makes the media seem to be a constant reiteration of tepid air.

Marlo Thomas: All Hands on Deck to Repair 'Reckless' Bush Nation

We have a lot of repairs to make around the world after eight years of reckless Bush diplomacy, and the more hands we have on deck, the better.

Hehe. I see a lot has been deleted, including Sibelle’s original attack on Roger, so now my posts are hanging out there without context and looking somewhat deranged.

To paraphrase “The Boxer”, some people hear what they want to hear, and disregard the rest. Good post, Roger. Good points.

I too though Roger’s post was quite clear, And I agree with him. I also agree with you about Sibelle’s post. Totally nasty and uncalled for.

Coming from someone who never adds anything more to any discussion than trite comments, you really have a lot of nerve telling Roger not to come in here. At least he is giving an actual, thoughtful opinion.

wow! this is the second time i have tried to read interesting and informative discussions and have been totally disgusted by the small minded and shallow attitudes. no wonder we are perceived as unaware of any depth or insight when it comes to the world’s problems and challenges. grow up. this is the last time i will post anything on this site. i am cancelling my viewership and wish all of you a more fruitful discussion than what has been shown on WOW. thanks but no thanks.

I agree and good for you. I used to get a lot of out the debates here, but things somewhere, somehow turn an ugly turn from philosophic to polarizing. There is no debate anymore - only defensive pettiness and cattiness. Funny how politics can do that to sheeple. …but apparently I am somewhat masochistic for sticking around here. Anyone can notice that my posting has rapidly declined from 10+ posts a day to a couple times a week. Sad how the antagonistic bigots and bullies are slowly but surely colonizing the place. This battleground for political propagandists is no longer a safe haven for truly progressive, intellectual women.

Hi Kryssi —

Seems that your disillusionment co-incides with my own lack of activity of the site!  Perhaps if I resume my old level of activity, you will stay!

Are you talking to me? I was responding to a very insulting post by sibelle (that is now gone, but this whole thread is acting weird) to roger and I stick by it.

Hillary Clinton / country above any ego…that’s a contradiction.

I would say any politician has a pretty healthy ego. The meek and self effacing do not generally run for public office. Do you have any concrete reason to think that Hillary’s ego is bigger than the norm, or is it just another gratuitous insult?

Well, considering that the only reason Hillary Clinton has gained her place in government is due to riding the coattails of her husband. If he hadn’t been Gov. of Arkansas, she would still be a nobody lawyer back in Arkansas. When he became President, she suddenly decided she wanted to be in the limelight instead of being the First Lady. She wanted to dictate from a position without authority that the American people did not vote her into. Hillary went into the White House as First Lady thinking that she could dictate from behind the curtains, sometimes even in the open. Hillary has at least softened a bit over the years. But, her ego is still very dangerous to this country.
