Is Hillary Clinton being snubbed as Secretary of State?

Veep Joe Biden travels internationally and gets credit for foreign diplomacy. Holbrooke and Mitchell report directly to the president. Mary Wells, Liz Smith, Joan Ganz Cooney, Marlo Thomas and Joan Juliet Buck sound off on whether Hillary’s getting snubbed

Mary Wells: Barack Obama Isn't Snubbing Anyone

I don’t think anyone is being snubbed. I think Obama is trying to pull in all the smart useful ones and hoping they will perform a service for their country, and it is much too early to know whether American politics can handle that.

Liz Smith: Hillary Clinton Needs All the Help She Can Get

Oh, for Pete’s sake, give the secretary of state a chance to get started before judging her in such a puerile manner. She and the vice president are longtime friends … she has known Dick Holbrooke for years (I’d say all the years he tried to become sec. of state himself) and she understands all about him and his ambitions … she is just poised to begin her very hard work putting things to rights in American diplomacy.

I think it’s childish for us to stand back and attribute crappy attitudes of jealousy and competition when none of us know exactly what is going on. But I’ll bet dollars to doughnuts, knowing Hillary Clinton, that she understands she can’t do it all by herself and that there are world problems aplenty, more than enough to go around.

She also knows that Holbrooke has his work cut out for him in trying to set things right with Pakistan. I imagine she’s rooting for him and strongly in his corner. He almost didn’t take this job; it was such a daunting one.

In this world, Hillary needs more smart people helping her, not less. I believe this State Department won’t have the chance to be a "petty competition" because there is too much at stake.

Gossip about status and rank is just the kind of boring garbage that makes the media seem to be a constant reiteration of tepid air.

Marlo Thomas: All Hands on Deck to Repair 'Reckless' Bush Nation

We have a lot of repairs to make around the world after eight years of reckless Bush diplomacy, and the more hands we have on deck, the better.

I find the topic heading argumentative …. as is the horrible picture, she has had the job for 4 weeks and has only JUST gone on her first overseas trip, for heaven’s sake ! Two things I know for sure, Barack Obama is no dummy, and Hillary Clinton is no pushover. She is in charge of a huge department, who, by the way, seemed thrilled to have her, from the welcome she got. Hillary does not do “snubbed” , and if she ever, in fact, felt snubbed, that person would hear about it ! I think they will work very well together.

EKA––I came back to the thread this morning in which I attempted to help you with italics. I redid it, hope it works for you.

WHATTT?? Is this question intentionally provocative? If not, then I see no purpose for it. Hillary is too sharp to be on that kind of level - besides, she has no problem speaking her mind. If anyone is snubbing her, too bad for them. Obama wouldn’t snub her, if that is the underlying motive for the question… This is most probably one of the lamest questions ever put before us… sorry, gang. I love this site, but, this is a little too much!

Perhaps we should give Mrs. Clinton a chance to actually get started with her job before we suggest she’s being snubbed. Geez… And I agree that all the top brains need to be at work on this problem, given the enormous damage Bush & Co. did for eight years. A little less political petulance and a little more practicality is what’s needed here. And Obama understands pragmatism like few presidents in recent memory.

I totally agree with everything Liz says…………. It’s going to take a lot of Good Intelligent Patriotic Americans to get us out of this mess………Let’s let them do their jobs and quit bitching about every little thing. Hillary is going to do a great job.

She is not being snubbed and to be honest, can we all give President Obama and his cabinet some time to actually do something before we start analyzing them in this manner? We’re not even a month into the new administration and everyone seems to be picking everything said and done apart. Let’s give them a few months….say….the first 100 days for instance and then critique them.

Belinda, I am with you on this. I’ve never seen so many dissections of people who haven’t even been in office but a few weeks. We must all be so anxious to "see" change because we haven’t had any "good changes" in 8 years. Other than that, I don’t know why all the analyses.

Glad I am not the only one! As soon as I read the headline/question, I felt like she’s being blatantly misrepresented by that photo, to deliberately encourage readers to lean their opinions more toward the negative. Unless there truly are NOT any flattering photos of Clinton in recent months, this is one of the more shameful of WOW’s political antics. But hey, whatever draws ratin—I mean, mouse clicks.

Kryssi, check out the March Vanity Fair magazine.  All of Obama’s cabinet is photographed and Hillary looks especially good. (Obama looks great on the cover too.)
