What scares me the most is that none of the candidates are willing to do the hard thing. GET OUT NOW. What upsets me the most is when the right wingers say ” the reason we went isn’t what’s important now.” To me it’s still very important. Mainly because I don’t want us to get into another war because of bad intelligence. Which I never believed in the first place. Why doesn’t the media hold their feet to the fire, regarding all the lies we were told. Like oil pay for war, seen as liberators, mission accomplished. There are many reasons to be scared least of all another four years (or heaven forbid 8) more years of the same. It scares me that they hide behind the flag and the bible. If they were really patriotic they would support the troops not only to fight, but when they came home. If they were really Christians they would find a way to resolve issues without sending our young people to die. It scares me that Mr. Cheney can say “So” when asked how it made him feel that over half the country is against this so.

I feel about Iraq now exactly as I did when we first went to war. I was called a traitor at the time. It is an unnecessary loss of life, loss of money, and loss of goodwill throughout the world. Iraq was under a policy of containment, yet the Bush administration, our government, and the media fed into the fears of our citizenry to ‘believe’ in the necessity of war. Remember? We had to ‘get’ and ‘stop’ the terrorists responsible for 911…however, we weren’t looking for them in Saudi Arabia. Then we had to get those ‘weapons of mass destruction.’ Unfortunately, we didn’t look at the countries who truly have them. Then we had to ‘save’ the Iraqis from the evil Saddam Hussein. However, this world is filled with many evil dictators, and we cannot save everyone. I always wondered how Nazi Germany happened. Now I know. Fear, fear and more spoonfed fear. My biggest fear now is that McCain will be elected, and we will be entrenched in Iraq even longer. My biggest hope is that we can get out of there with at least a little bit of dignity and begin to repair our international relations. God bless our troops, and may we get out of this debacle as soon as possible.

When Liz Smith makes reference to “religious and factional foolishness” she reveals a serious weakness of imagination. What she may feel is foolishness is viewed as deadly serious by people who are willing to kill and be killed. Perhaps if she were to grant that those whom we find it difficult to agree are operating from motives just a valid as ours, she might be able to make a more significant contribution to the discussion. Remember that “puppy love” is real to the puppy. The hope for the future? Sixty years ago we defeated the Fascists and today we see the benefit of the terrible cost. If thirty years from now Iraq (and Iran?) are free and just countries inhabited by satisfied citizens, then George Bush and Co. will enjoy a decidedly different place in our judgement.

John, Bush and Co., as you refer to them, will never enjoy a decidedly different place in “our” judgment. Get back to “us” in thirty years.

My biggest fear is that this ” quick in and out ” war will never end, too many men and women have died already. Its amazing to me we went over there for “WMD” and for redemption for the terrible sept 11 acts, but i wonder how many realize that the death toll of american soldiers has now exceeded the death toll that died on that most horrific day.. My biggest hope is that we get a president thats more worried about what goes on here rather then worrying about making wonderful alliances with other countries that “NEVER” come here and rebuild us!!!!

Moving the past the obvious “it was all a mistake!” - I’m particularly worried for the women in Iraq. We did not insist on a secular constitution for Iraq (or Afghanistan) and now we’ll probably see them moving towards theocracy - as is currently developing in Afghanistan. Greeeaaaat. Just what the world needs, right? More theocracies.

I will be able to think straight about Iraq once my son returns safely. It is too personal right now.

Deborah—-If the president and the vice-president also have their children in Iraq, I am sure your son would return safely very soon. The trouble of that it is not the case! So why don’t you write to the White House and ask for that? Ask them why your son is fighting for the country and theirs are not ???!!!!!!dancewu(dot)net

The U.S. is fighting Iraq today is like Hillary is fighting Obama through Rev. Wright; the U.S. used to fight Iran with the help from Iraq is just like Hillary Clinton needed the Black Votes in order to go to the White House in 1992.That was the beauty of Bill Clinton’s politics but not the combatant Hillary who dicided to fight all the time. And today Hillary is fighting the Blacks because the Blacks is no longer supporting the Clintons anymore—- I am not voting this November. Therefore I could use my cool eyes to see all the dirty politics going on with amazement!—- dancewu(dot)net

My Fiance’ fought in Iraq for 8 months back in 2003…I just want to say there was and still is WMD…they were seen and handled by US Troops but our Media doesn’t want to report it b/c that would mean Bush was right (not that I get enjoyment in saying that)…Plus back to the Gulf War I have letters from a high school friend who fought in that war and his letters say “while watching the Iraq border, they are over there making WMD’s and there isn’t anything we can do about it…they will stop and waive to us”….those are words from one of our own Marines!! They don’t lie! I do not feel we should have invaded Iraq b/c this is a fight that has been going on for 1000’s of years…the US Troops will not change anything. Once we are all out it will go back to being a breeding group for Terrosits to attack us and another attack is coming…We didnt learn a thing with 9/11….I hate saying that also but I live in fear when I go to the mall or someone very populated that a bomb could explode…I dont live in fear but the thoughts are there…Where are the exits-can I cover my 2 year old to stop her from getting hurt….The thoughts are there…I pray every night that all our Troops will come home safely as my Fiance’ did but sometimes those prayers aren’t answered…
