Joan Ganz Cooney Snaps Out of It

I regain control when the reason for the panic has passed, and then I calm down right away.

How Liz Smith Simmers Down

I am apt to go make myself a cup of tea and get in a hot bath and calm down. "This too shall pass" is not a bad motto, though it doesn’t help a lot when things seem dire. I always need to stop and think and not behave impulsively, which is my wont.

Why You Want Judith Martin Around During an Emergency

I don’t panic, so you want me around during an emergency. It is afterwards, when everyone else is relieved and happy, that they turn to me and say, "What’s the matter with you?"

Marlo Thomas Is the Calmer Half

I’m not really a panic artist. In fact, I’m pretty good to have around whenever everybody else is losing it. There’s a great saying that a good marriage is when both people don’t panic at the same time. So Phil’s lucky — he gets to panic whenever he wants.

Dona, I remember this awful fact almost everyday since you first told us. I would suspect that few here have ever experienced that kind of horror, not to mention just pure panic. When panic as I know it hits my world, I breathe deeply again and again and think of running water.

Dona, When go through something as horrifying as that can hardly experience anything worse…you know you can survive and be strong…even as you know it will never leave you. Jackie said she finally realized that life is the good and bad all mixed in and perhaps there is no need to separate it…it’s all part of life…even the very tragic parts. When asked what she was most proud of, she said it was that she went through terrible times and remained sane. That says a lot….she had so many things of pride to chose from…and says a lot about you, too.

I take a few swigs of Jack Daniels and then shoot beer cans off my boyfriend’s head. Always calms me down.
