If you could give away one million dollars, what or who would you give it to?

Liz Smith: Selfish? Really?

Selfish to the end, I would put it into Treasury Bills to assure the education of my darling godchild. He is 11 and yearns to go to Yale, so I would like to give him a shot. A million isn’t enough to save the nation so I might as well have a fling on my own terms.

Great question! A portion would be saved for taking care of my family. The remaining would go towards sending underprivileged children ages 2-6 to Montessori schools across the country. At this age, it is important that children love to learn, respect different cultures, and kindness. When I went in for my daughter’s parent/teacher conference (she was 3 at the time) the teacher said, “My goal is to empower her with the tools and passion to be a leader in this world.” I had tears flowing…I walked in being concerned if she would make it to the potty on time. Imagine the future of our world if all children had this opportunity and exposure to this level of teaching! Happy Friday, Misty with My Inspiration Lounge http://www.myinspirationlounge.com

I’d give enough money to my mom to get her out of debt and put a down payment on a home wherever she’d like. I would get the medical lab testing done that I’ve never been able to afford, to figure out what’s wrong with me (namely allergy skin tests and thyroid/hormone tests) - why do they make those things so expensive? I guess they want us all to stay sick and/or die. Whatever. I would finally get a passport and take my first overseas trip to God Knows Where, depending on my mood at the time, and find peace of mind. And I would donate a majority of the remaining to animal welfare causes, mostly the ASPCA.

Haha, I should have read the instructions more carefully. Half of mine were selfish - what a dolt! Okay, CHARITY ONLY: -My mom, still. Seriously. -Whatever it takes to move Jenny from the Dallas zoo to Tennessee ele sanctuary!!! -Animal welfare groups only - ASPCA, Humane Society, etc.

A million dollars to give away? I’d put it in trust funds for my grandchildren for their college education. I wouldn’t put it in the stock market, that’s for sure!

I would give some to my mother, enough to let her stop worrying about money and enjoy what is left of her life. I would divide the rest between my three daughters so that they can pay off all of their debts and use what is left to help buy a house, further their education, or whatever they need to do to improve their lives.

I would give it to the individual or group who could develop a plan to bring solar power to every building, both residential and commercial, in this country within five years. This would mean finding low-cost production and installation techniques, delivery systems, and backup plans - as well as the educational program needed to help our citizenship understand solar’s benefits. Energy independence is the only solution for our nation, but it must be safe, renewable, and not result in deadly waste that we have no means of eliminating.

I would give half of the money to early childhood education, and the other half for college scholarships. Nothing in this world comes for free, but it bothers me a lot that young people are forced to be deep in debt when they are starting out in life……

With one million dollars I would help my mother with whatever she needed or wished for, and buy her a house wherever she wanted to live. Figured she deserves that after raising her children alone and time after time having bad luck, starting from scratch… After that, I would help other relatives and secure my own finances. If I had leftovers, I would help some good causes, though I’m not sure what kind… I’ll find out when I get my million dollars:D

Good question, I immediately thought of the Native Women’s Shelter up here in Montreal. At the bottom of the barrel as far as shelter’s go in the city, being a house design to serve the native population. The shelter relies on obscure government funds and too few charitable donors. One million dollars would last for years in programs tailored to the needs of aborignal women and their children. Like funding the emergency outreach food program or self-esteem and empowering courses.

First I would give my little home I live in now— for free to some single mom to help her out. I would look for a charity that I felt comfortable with and give them 1/10 of what ever I got. Then I would buy a huge house and have all my family come to live together, My brother and I both have Sjogrens Disease and we could help each other and our families together.

I would put the money in a trust to cover the college tuition for my granddaughters and my two great grandsons. Half to the girls and half to the boys. Their ages are 13 and 5……..so the money would have some time to grow. I had hoped to have money to give to them later in life but with the ecomomy as it is today I’ve recently lost about half of my income. That really hurts.

I would gladly deliver every penny of the million to anyone who could invent a device or system that would give vision to the blind. I don’t mean to give the money to an organization that helps and takes care of the blind. I mean, I believe that in this modern age there is enough high technology to develop something that could be attached to a sightless person so that they can see the wonderful world they live in. I can’t imagine not being able to see. Surely something can be invented to overcome this terrible handicap.

It has been a challenging week. So forgive me if my altruism is on the fritz. I would give the mil to a new charity called LENA NEEDS A VACAY. Sorry for being so selfish.

I would give it to my mother to invest in Treasury Bills to make sure that she could support herself if I were to die first. We already have the ‘Fund’ established in honor of my father for advanced (Masters & Doctoral) studies in art and photography at AZ State U, and they get everything when we are both gone. We both have donated our bodies to science and there isn’t much left after that, is there? CA

To animal and environmental charities. The animals can not help themselves especially when much of the human population is so consuming and outright vicious regarding their lives. The WWF is an organization I give what little I am able to give now and would be glad to help more.
